Farrah's hair cut was called feathered hair style. That was the name for long layered hair. The short (above shoulder) was called shag hair cut. It was what the guys called it for men's hair. I was there in the 70's and wore the feathered "Farrah" hair style in my high school years.

I agree. I too remember this from the 70s. I tried to get this hairdo a few years ago, and came out of the salon very frustrated. The beautician simply didn't know how to do it and had no idea what "feathered" meant.

The Farah Fawcett haircut was called"feathered" as you said. I remember the shag was shorter layers with a fringey flip at the bottom. The Carol Brady haircut--right? I had the Feathered haircut all thru the 70s and early 80s. I don't think I changed my hair until Madonna came around and we all started doing BIG hair.

I want to thank you for posting this video! I had my hair cut like this years ago and loved it! I should have kept going back to the same girl who cut it but sadly I didn't and was never able to find another hair dresser who understood what I was asking for. After a while I gave up and have been cutting my own hair for the last 20 years. I've been searching for videos but none were easy for me to understand until yours. I cut it today and I love it! Thank you for sharing this video! This used to be the go-to cut back in the day. I personally love it (of course, I'm 51 lol) but this is sadly a lost art!! Today, stylists only want to use the damn razor which I hate personally. Or after they cut a layer they point cut it...or do "whispy" cut. I ALWAYS specify what I want and dont want, yet they usually do what THEY *think* is better... which will then reflect in a reduced tip. I wish that if a stylist can't.. or won't do exactly what u want..or they dont know HOW to cut they way you ask, they should just refer you to the one who can..and WILL. I have a TON of hair, and its wavy. I need the layers. Flat iron is my best friend lol. I'm actually contemplating shaving a large section in the back at the base of the skull just to decrease the volume. Has anyone ever done this? Did it help?

You did a fantastic instructional video, for a Long Layered Squared 180 haircut. It's what I was taught back in the 70's. You need to get the word Shag out of the title though cause as you must know by now, a shag has a more defined shortness at the upper part of the head, compared to that of the bottom below the ears. Funny how all types of styles come back around :)

I want someone in Portland Oregon to cut my hair like Lisa rinna yet when I bring in a picture they say oh ya I can do that, yet the back and sides look nothing like it, I feel strange asking them to watch your video. I would you approach a hair dresser on her style and the way you do it, some say they have been cutting for 20 yrs, but that doesn't matter if you cant do the cut, do I just bring my kindle fire and have them watch your video? would that be insulting? are you in Oregon at all?

Good video! No one knows how to do this cut today! I went to get the "Farah Fawcett" cut a few months ago and she cut a mid-length bob. Totally awful haircut for my face. I ended up getting it all cut super short to correct it. Anyways your haircut--long layers--is what we all wore in the 70s. If you went to get your hair cut, and they asked you want you wanted, you would say "Just feather it". If you wanted it short layers, you would call it a shag. But the shag was only for shorter hair, and usually had a fringey long flip on the ends. The Shag was the Carol Brady (Brady Bunch Mom) haircut. Anyways--good job!

I have had shag since the late 70s but cut shorter then using to layered on top n layerd all the way to sholders I start with medium hair but all stylest stop halfway down.I have thick wavy hair why does no one know how to do this style right see photo thats a shag layered top to bottom for thick wavy hair spent a fortune trying to get the right cut.still looking with limited funds

All one has to do is bend upside down with damp hair, comb it all straight down so it is going in a ponytail straight above the head, then cut it straight across. Stand up, shake it out, then let it air dry while scrunching it for beachy waves. Or, you can roll it or use a curling iron. There is no need to do sections like this which takes a long time. Bending forward and cutting it takes 3 minutes and gives the same result.

You did an awesome job. I had the Farrah Fawcett cut in the 70’s. I might think about wearing it again. its a great look at any age. Thank you for a very informative video. You make me wish I had gone to hair school. I think I would have enjoyed it very much. I went to dental assisting school. And it was a good job but I love to cut & style hair. One of my daughters decided to go to hair school. I was so excited. I signed all the paperwork and my boss even gave me a raise so I could pay for her to go the a good hair school. At the last minute she decided to go to nursing school. I don’t regret having a nurse in the family but I did so want a hair stylist. My other daughters chose business school and pharmacy school. So I’m on my own when it comes to hair cuts. Well my husband actually cut my hair 2 times since the pandemic. He did the inverted bob using a rubber band. He did a good job. He’s an electrician but maybe he should have gone to hair school. I know it must be a very rewarding career with many options and avenues to choose from. You are so talented. Enjoy your career. I know two hairdressers in Fort Walton Beach Fl who can cut this style . One is named Won at JC Penney and the other is named Wendy at Cuts by Us. It took me many years to find a hairdresser who could cut my hair right. Even when I showed a photo of myself ...the cut I walked out with was all wrong. Once it was cut in the Ziggy Stardust style and my best friend made fun of me.
