you don't want to remove 100 percent of defects. the ones that prove to be stubborn, leave them, or you'll blow through all your paints clear coat desperately trying to fix it further creating more damage. just accept what a couple passes with a compound followed by the same with a polish will drastically improve the outcome. I emphasize this with all my customers that chasing a blemish free surface will eventually leave you with a ruined one. get it to 80 90 percent better. then coat it with whatever you like to protect it. done. 👍 great videos. thanks for sharing your expertise

Tip (if you don’t do this already): if you have a fresh pad, make sure to prime the pad by rubbing the compound/ polish into the pores of the pad to make sure you get an equal amount of cut. If there is compound/ polish in one area of the pad and there isn’t in another place, there could possibly be places where the pad cuts more than others. Anyways, I can clearly see that your technique works perfectly and if it works for you, then keep up the good work.

As you describe what your're doing it resonates in my internal voices...........I have always been known for my vehicles, but I'm not a full time detail professional even though I've been doing this for over 25 years. The bit about using Isopropyl Alcohol to clear the compound is intriguing, I've never heard of it before. I can't wait to introduce it into my technique. THANK YOU!
@downnoutdubin10 ай бұрын
This video helped me in a few ways... I've been running a light cutting pad with light compound. Not really getting the results I'm after. I might go medium cut with the light pad, as it seemed this respray on the car didn't like the medium pad with the medium cut compound (I got abrasion worse than wet sanding at 1000 rpm and pre-wet the pad before the compound (always keeping the pad flat and at a 90 w/ light pressure)). I'm considering buying a paint depth gauge to know what I have to work with and how much I'm taking away. Anyways, back to the point. I wasn't sure if I'd need to go back over lightly with the light cut to bring down the micro scratching for the polishing stage. This video cleared that up. I've also came to the conclusion my cutting compound is too old (Meguiars). I can only do half of the working section you did and half of the passes before it wants to dry on me (w/ a cleanish pad, using the same amount of product). Funny thing is I've always had black cars with decent paint. I inherited a classic car from my father. It has a two stage paint on there, and it's been the most finicky paint I've worked with. I've always been a DIY detailer, so I haven't worked with a ton of different finishes.

Thanks. I plan on doing this to my F150 and applying a ceramic coating afterwards. I don't have many noticable swirls unless the lighting is perfect and I am looking at the exact correct angle. I believe this is mainly because I do not use circular motions when I wash, all fine scratches are front to back and they are very light. But I definitely want a nice fresh layer of clear for the ceramic coating to stick to so hopefully it will last a long time

Thanks Sandro. Can you clarify a few points: 1. Do you need to clay bar or do other prepping before compound? 2. After 2 steps, will you need to apply a sealant or wax? 3. When should you apply a ceramic coat and or wax coat?
@aezarexxzarus4846 Жыл бұрын
1. Yes, prepping paint before correction work will lead to a better and cleaner result with less variables that affect your results. If there is pre-existing micro debris on the paint and you start paint correction, that will make you run around in circles trying to chase what it is that's giving you a hard time. Prep/full decontamination is definitely helpful. 2. If you have a diy-user friendly ceramic coating, apply that. If you don't use sealant. As sealant lasts much longer than a wax, it makes more sense to put it on freshly corrected paint. You could also layer the sealant after a few hours or even layer it with a wax for longer lasting protection from uv rays and environmental fallout etc. 3. Ceramic coating should be applied on freshly decontaminated and corrected paint. Using paint prep (iso propyl alcohol based) is very important when applying ceramic coatings. It allows the coating to adhere properly to the paint.

Hi Sandro! I've been correcting my daily for some practice. It is SUPER swirled. It is a Black FG XR6. I did a few test sections - I used NV Precision/Finesse with Blue HDO & Black HDO. And also Chemical Guys C4/P4. I remove all the swirls - but I just for the life of me am unable to remove the micromarring/buffer trail It finishes beautifully, as in the clarity, gloss and depth - but in ceratin light you can see the buffer trail which is just horrible. So I thought, maybe I am not cutting enough with my polish so I changed pads to HDO Orange, which made it even worse. I have a shinemate ex605 - I spread the compound around speed 2, and then turned it up to speed 6 with light pressure, slow arm speed movement which has worked for me with every other car I have done. I use Bowden's Flash Prep after it as an IPA wipe and very very lightly wipe off the compound. If I rub the back of my hand on the paint, it marrs it very very bad. So I am not sure, it was repainted a few years ago very poorly - my front bar is full of stone chips, and you can see the primer underneath, I can chip the paint off with my finger nail it's just a terrible job..so not sure if it is me, or the paint. Any ideas? I am planning on starting to offer cut/polishing and ceramic coating as a mobile detailer, so this is quite distressting for me. I have done my weekend cars, although they are white - and I removed about 85% defects which I feel is good enough, and one is coated with Crystal Serum Light, the other Gyeon One.
@CarCraftAutoDetailing Жыл бұрын
It sound like you are contending with quite a difficult paint, so don’t be too hard on yourself as some resprays I’ve corrected have been a total nightmare to finish well on. This is where some trouble shooting needs to take place in trying to find a polish/pad the paint likes and playing a little with technique as some sensitive paints won’t respond well to the typical products and methods most other paints will. I’d try a couple of different compounds, maybe Carpro Essence with a foam polishing pad - that also doesn’t require an IPA wipe could be worth a go. I’ve sometimes found Rupes DA fine compound to work well of fussy paints and Scholl S20 Black is another I would certainly try. Technique wise I’d try using an very small amount of compound on the pad (maybe one third of normal) and even try after you finish polishing, blow out your pad, do a gentle wipe and use the pad again to polish a little half cycle - without adding any more compound to the pad. In other words just experiment a little to see if you find something out of the box this difficult paint responds better to.
