While it seems to work very well at least for that grade of aluminium. I think I will stick to my bandsaw. Hmm, guess I will have to - don't actually have a circular saw 😏and can't go shopping to buy one as we are in virus lock down 😰 😱 Second clamp may have been a good idea... Martin

Great saw Harold! I need to tell Santa to bring me one of those this year for Christmas! I don't understand why that thing is over 300bucks! My neighbor has that harbor freight band saw like yours. His works like dream cutting 4inch steel round stock. It's slow, but it doesn't blow the blade like yours. You might try putting some boelube on your blade or wd-40 when cutting gummy aluminum. www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/boelube3.php

Thank you for taking the time to show us how you safely and quickly cut aluminum. Aluminum dust is both very toxic and flammable. You should also be wearing a respirator. Spraying the cutting blade with a dry lube wouldn't hurt either. Thanks.

Your concerns are heightened to a point of ridiculousness. While ANY dust can be explosive the size of the particles must be small enough to be suspended in air and at just the right ratio to ignite. This is preposterous to consider in this situation. Aluminum is NOT "very toxic". Look up any MSDS, or simply Google. Misinformation is lazy and irresponsible.

Apparently saw teeth are optional. Of the carbide tips visible on the blade when you show it to the camera only about 1/4 are present. The rest are shattered/broken off. Did you loose the tips trying to make other aluminum cuts, or abusing the blade in other ways?

Hi James! These holes are over 3inches in diameter. My neighbor down the street cut them out with his tormach and saved me a bunch of time... I was going to hog out most of the material with a jigsaw and then bore to size on the milling machine. Kerosene, diesel or jet fuel makes a great cutting fluid on aluminum. Good luck!

worldtraveler yikes:/ and i thought i was nearly finished with all my research. So what about if i wanted to make one of those glass and brass little jewellery box, surely i wouldnt be able to just heat up that thin of material and solder on it would i? What about just tacking the corners with no filler? Or pulse weld for thicker pieces?
@jagboy69
@jagboy69 4 жыл бұрын
@@Magiaimelissa A tig spot weld on really thin stuff might be possible, but I wouldnt spend big money on a machine for just this job. I'd look more toward brazing the brass. For thin stuff, a map gas torch from home depot ($40) and a bottle of map gas should be plenty hot enough. I think map should be hot enough to melt safety silv. You will need flux. You could try propane and plumbing soldier, but I dont know how strong this joint needs to be or how big it is.

@jagboy69 2 ай бұрын
@@ctoomuch Maybe.. but lubrication and cooling fluid isn't really required when machining aluminum. I kinda think chip evacuation is more important at these cutting speeds. Cutting dry ensures you dont have a clumpy mess and preserving the life of the 8dolllar saw blade is pretty low on my list in this case.

you must have been using the wrong battery for the application, or knockoff batteries. i bought one specifically for metal cutting and it is a beast. with a good carbide blade it will cut through 1/4 steel like butter, even cuts through 1/2" steel plate just fine. its so nice just grabbing it off the shelf when i need it and then just putting it away when done, vs grabbing it off the shelf, unwrapping the cord, finding an extension cord, finding a, outlet with an open socket, plugging it in, cord getting in the way the whole time im using it, then doing the reverse when im done
