brother I cant thank you enough for this! I'm going through a divorce right now and my ex was a hair dresser and 3x a year she could clean me up lol. Now I can do it on my own and honestly my hair looks better then she ever did it! Also had people at the local market look it over and said it looked top notch! Here's my personal story: I'm now 29, and I've been getting my hair cut by barbers since I was 15. Before that, my mother used to cut it, but you know how complicated and stressful that can be, especially if you don't have the best relationship with your mom. By December 2023, I hadn't cut my hair for two months, and it was really long (I usually cut it every month). My girlfriend asked if I had ever thought about buying clippers to cut my own hair at home. So, I bought a Kemei clipper, and since then, my girlfriend's been cutting my hair. However, she always gets nervous during the cut, so I decided to learn how to do it myself. That's when I discovered Michael's KZbin channel and his amazing way of teaching. He made it so simple and straightforward that anyone, even those who don't know anything about barbering, can do it themselves. Honestly, I don't know if I'll ever return to a barbershop, maybe for a special occasion, but definitely not regularly. There's something incredibly satisfying about being able to do it yourself. It's not just about saving money. Michael, I want to thank you for the wonderful videos you've made. You've made a difference in a lot of people's self-esteem.

This guy just helped me get my first half decent cut since lockdown. I've watched many vids but this guy simplifies it. Too many people are trying to do fades at number 1's and 2's who have never even picked up clippers before or, don't realise how you need the right lighting and mirrors. Thanks to your videos I can now cut my own hair things I have had to learn 1. Keep a long fringe it can hide a lot of mistakes 2. not to go to high on the sides with the clippers halfway is enough when cutting upwards no higher then use the clippers downwards with a higher blade down the side of your head not to high 😊 3. not using 0 blades when you're learning 2 onwards is best 4. Always wet your hair when cutting the top with scissors 5. Have a hat or a hoodie handy 😉

Okay, so I just finished my first haircut using this video. I cannot believe how well it came out. The part on how to cut the hair on the top of the head...why does no one else ever mention this in their videos? It is incredible. That was always the part that baffled me; I knew using scissors and a comb was too advanced. This technique is so simple. It was a little bit stressful seeing so much hair being removed (it has been a long while since I had a haircut), but it came out great. This is literally the only video I needed. Thanks.

I'm glad you found my channel Bobby and hope you find some useful tips here. I totally understand the loss of skill in the trade. I've seen it happen over 18 years now in the industry. Scissor work has taken a back seat to clipper work for about the last 5 or 6 years now. There hasn't been a lot of emphasis on scissor skills. But I feel it's changing and young barbers are beginning to take a real interest in what they can do with scissors.

Definitely gained some useful tips, and will be sharing your channel with friends and family. Totally agree with you on the subject of shear work. I was taught how to cut hair with shears over comb before I was allowed to use clippers. It has a very relaxing effect on people, rather than a loud clipper in their ears. Plus many more advantages. I do see the technique and interest coming back into the industry but unfortunately just not in my area. Thank you again for the great content and sharing your skills!

This method works great for a tidy up while to barbers are closed. Remington clipper does the job, and thanks to the method for trimming the top, I don't look bald like last time when I just chopped the lot off due to lack of skill! Many thanks.

I literally cut my hair today, and I wish I had seen this video before. I'll try your blending technique next time, it looks really easy. Thanks for posting this!

it looks easy because it's done by a professional

I don't comment often but I had to. I've been cutting my own hair for nearly a decade. And before that I had the barber do the same hairstyle for me. Just a really basic one. This is without a doubt, the nicest haircut I've ever had. Even my sister was shocked by the difference. I've still gotta figure out how to transition the back a bit better, like you did. But this was an amazing and easy hairstyle tutorial. Thank you!

Brilliant Michael. Many thanks for all the hints and tips. Have been cutting my own hair since last March with reasonable success, according to my regular hairdresser who has rescued it during the break in lockdowns. But we're back where we were, so seeing your tutorials has explained much, and given me confidence re direction of comb and cut. Will put it all into practice tomorrow. Thanks again. Cheers for now. Roj.

Good on you Roj. I'm glad it was useful and not to bad for your normal barber to bring back to something professional. 🙌🙌🙌🙌

There are a couple of useful tutorials that I've been using to good effect for my first attempts at cutting my hair, and the tip for thinning your hair by using the clippers following the hair direction instead of going against it works really well. Your tip for going down to help blend also helps. so thanks for that :O)

Thank you Sooo much, I could do crew cuts, all the same length, my wife cut my hair with a scissors, for 30 years, but thought I would give the clippers a try. The first video, they used a scissors on the top, I am on blood thinners, so I didn't want to try that, I put on your video, watched part of it, paused it did what you did, watched a little more, it turned out AWESOME THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

Bought some clippers today and my wife got to work after watching this video. She did a great job and said this was really helpful and without it I'd probbaly have ended up with #2 all over. Many thanks.

I have been cutting my own hair since 1969. I almost don't need mirrors to trim my medium length hair. I usually strip down to cut just before a shower. Takes 5 minutes every couple of weeks.

Have followed this man's videos before and they are brilliant. Cutting my own hair during lockdown using his method . It works so well I can not believe it. I use a small Remington clippers . But when I cut my boys hair they complain it pulls the hair a bit. Would anyone recommend a good cordless clippers to buy. Nothing crazy expensive , but good for a DIY .

Followed this earlier , albeit it took over 2hrs approaching with caution and stop and starting the video while battling a bar stool, gigantic bedroom mirror resting on my lap and attempting not to drop it. Ended up just doing a number 4 on side , so mine looks like it's 2 weeks in to a fresh trim but better than 3 months of worth of annoying hair ; even if the barbers do open in 3 weeks! Couldn't wait any longer. Like the trick of bringing the clippers forward instead of cutting it against it. Didn't do fringe but looks ok to brush over. Might even try it again with 2/3 before visiting the barber. Thanks Michael

Well done Aaron. That's good to hear. Let's face it, it's never going to be what the barber can do for you, but good you've got something decent to tide you over

brilliant. been doing my own like this since watching your video in first lockdown. scary doing that top first time but love it now! I like it longer at front than back so playing around with different guides 2/3 seems to work!

mate excellent vid. Im here in Australia and everything is locked down. I'm gonna try to cut my own hair but do u reckon it's easier to cut slightly damp hair rather than fully dry?
@theoneminutebarber3 жыл бұрын
For this cut it needs to be dry. The rule of thumb is basically dry for clippers, wet for scissors. If you clipper wet the hair will bunch together and not feed into the clipper blade very easily

Fantastic video. Suffering for months with long tangled hair. Watch video, went to the local Tesco's and bought a hair clipper. My wife thought I sneaked in a barber while she was out, It turned out that well. All down to the video. Well done and thanks
