Why not? If an HIV+ person is on medication for a while (usually a few months), they become "undetectable", which means that the viral load in their blood is so low, it cannot be detected. When they reach this level, the chance of infecting others is extremely slow, and with protection like condoms, it is almost non-existent. So even if you have unprotected sex with them, they cannot infect you, but you should never have unprotected sex just to be sure, and because there are other STDs (some I would argue even worse than HIV, like HPV). HIV+ people must take their medication every day for the rest of their lives. That way, they cannot infect others and they can live full and healthy lives with little to no complications (other than possible side effects from the medication), and HIV will never develop to AIDS. With modern medicine, HIV has become a very treatable (though unfortunately not curable) chronic illness, like any other chronic illness.

If you are negative and your partner is positive and undetectable, you cannot get HIV from them.. the condition isn't even affecting THEM anymore; it's not going to have any effect on you.
