I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to work with positive voices and Terrence Higgins Trust to craft and build my own story.
There’s still a lot more work to go but wanted to share the start of this journey.
Thanks for watching.

In 2005 when I was 17 there was a nasty rumor spread about me that people were saying I had HIV+ throughout Saint Augustine, Florida. That spread into my hometown Green Cove Springs, Orange Park, Middleburg, and even Jacksonville Florida (a city with 1 million people). There were bulletins posted on MySpace about me and just like that... my life was ruined. I was fired from my job. I eventually left Florida in 2016. Guess what? I didn't have HIV... I'm HIV negative. I've never had the virus. That 'witchhunt' taught me a lot, it taught me how to prevent myself from contracting the virus and it also taught me how silly the stigma was/is. I'm apart of the HIV community without being HIV positive because I faced the stigma associated with HIV. Shame on those people that spread those rumors and shame of them for stigmatizing the disease. At this point, I am 35 and still HIV negative. And I am so glad there's the 1 pill per day for those infected, and now the vaccine is working, and more and more advancements are happening. Undetectable is a blessing for this virus and life is to be lived. I hope that within my lifetime we see the cure. Keep speaking up and speaking out Ellie! Hello from Kansas City, Missouri.

I don't even know who I landed on this video while randomly watching YT videos you are lovely lady and you did a really good job in telling this story. It was interesting to listen to. I could imagine the heavy duty shock of it all when you kept asking for a retest. You got past that time so well and have a really good vibe in this video. It's nice that they now have drugs these days that make this pretty much of a non issue.

I’m from india and It’s been a year I had an unsafe sex with a girl that I just met first time. After getting into that activity, I came to know about HIV AIDS. I was very scared. I tested myself at the 43rd day and It came negative. I was happy but after some days. I was again tensed because I was going through HIV phobia. I think, many of us are just scared of HIV phobia. I got a job in a city and I didn’t get into physical with any girl. After a year, It just stuck that I might a HIV positive. What will happen with my life? What would be my parents reaction? These things have just fucked my mind. So, I decided to get tested. I went to the clinic with covered face and I asked for the tridot test. I was very scared untill the test came. “ I WAS HIV NEGATIVE “ . They showed me my test kit. I was very happy that day. So, Don’t get confused or scared unless your test came positive and one more thing “A POSITIVE LIFE MEANS NEGATIVE IN HIV”.

This makes me feel better about yhe steps inusually take. Im almost 30 with no kids and i LOVE CONDOMS.yes i knoe they can break and stuff but k use them to be as safe as i can and also yo lrevent pregnancy. Its funny how many people will tell me its nuts thats i still use condoms even when im dating a man for several years. Idk why yheres such a stigma against being safe. I really wish there wasnt. While there are medications to managae most sti's i feel like whats wrong eith being extra cautious 🤷 were still having sex and enjoying it lol id like thay stigma to go away that safe sex is boring. So, I tested positive for HIV at a plasma center but when I went too hospital they told me that I tested NEGATIVE for everything. I am now waiting for a 3rd opinion from my primary care doctor and I’d be lying if I said I am not nervous but I have faith that I’ll test negative because I’ve always been on top of my status and no I don’t sleep around. I mean from like February too March or April I was sexually active with my ex girlfriend and yes it was unprotected and even still I went to get checked out and my results was good then before she left to go back home for the spring semester. I am asking for y’all prayers.
@ellieharrison6905
@ellieharrison6905 Жыл бұрын
Being ‘on top of’ your status doesn’t really mean much. The best way to prevent transmission is to practice safe sex. In the absence of this it’s always best to get tested regularly, but there’s really nothing to be concerned about. Most STIs are entirely treatable, manageable and in a lot of cases curable. Hope you’re doing well though, and wish you the best with your next set of results.

You could be a controller elite that your immune system have fought it. Also that doesn't mean you don't practice safe sex cause you can spread it you could catch a variant that your immunity isn't capable of fighting

I’m so glad you’re able to stay positive with this diagnosis and get the treatment you need and that it works for you.. However, the magic pill does not work for everyone so I really wish people would stop telling people that HIV is manageable. It makes a lot of young people think they can still live a wild life. Some can’t handle the treatment and some are resistant. 🙏🏼
@ellieharrison6905
@ellieharrison6905 4 ай бұрын
Hi, this isn’t entirely true, resistance typically is against specific medications, and only occurs through incorrect use of medication. The strain of HIV passed to me was already resistant to one medication and I just use a different one. Everyone can handle the medication, side effects are very minimal and if any occur there are 7-8 different types of medication available to try. People living with HIV can have entirely normal sex lives

Hi, method of transmission is heavily stigmatised so for the most part I don’t share this part of the story. It’s also worth noting transmission isn’t possible without 2 parties involved. I don’t feel comfortable sharing a story which could direct affect someone else.
@GenZMother
@GenZMother 10 ай бұрын
@@ellieharrison6905 But that’s what I don’t understand about the supposed stigma surrounding HIV. How can you get rid of that stigma when its taboo to discuss how you contracted it? As the mother of 4 young adult sons, I never shut up about STI’s and unplanned pregnancy. Surely discussing why it’s a stigma would help? Why can’t we talk about it? One of my sons caught chlamydia from his girlfriend at the time and the first thing I did was go and speak to the girls mother about it. I certainly didn’t approach her to throw her daughter under the bus and lecture her on cheating lol I went to talk about it with her so her daughter could also get treatment. Granted both our kids were only 17 at the time, I would have still felt the same if they were adults.

In a way I sort of relate two people who have been diagnosed with HIV even though I don't have HIV I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia which means that I have to get a shot once every two weeks if I don't take shots I will go into a coma and die I felt like I had done something wrong or being punished for something that I've never asked for. Whatever it may be taking shots or pills for the rest of your life is not the end of the world.

I have to agree with her. Are there laws in the UK criminalizing intentional spread of HIV? If he knew he’s a dangerous guy. My friend died of this disease. I miss him terribly. His name was Ben. ❤️ I hope your health is long and happy. 🦋

This attitude isn’t helpful. The majority of infections are unintentional because the person is unaware that they have it. This desire for justice perpetuates the belief that people with hiv are dangerous and that there’s people who intentionally or negligently spread hiv. While this does occur, it accounts for a minority of cases and increases stigma against people who live with hiv. The person who transmitted hiv to her was at some point infected, too. Disease is an unfortunate part of nature and people living with hiv don’t deserve to be treated guilty until proven innocent. Humanity has figured out how to mostly avoid falling prey to animals, but unfortunately we haven’t figured out how to stop falling prey to disease and infections. So don’t approach this topic by assuming guilt, it just makes people with hiv feel shame.

What do you think infected you with the virus?
@ellieharrison6905
@ellieharrison6905 11 ай бұрын
There’s only three main methods of transmission. Vertical transmission, which is virtually eradicated in the UK now due to advancements in medication and proactive HIV testing for pregnant women. Blood born transmission, so when infected blood enters your blood stream, through blood transfusions, sharing needles or cross contamination or equipment. Finally the most common is through unprotected sex, whether that be heterosexual, homosexual, vaginal or anal.

@@ellieharrison6905So you got yours from sleeping around I guess..? Now there's nothing we can do about that now. But how couldn't you include the message of abstinence, protected sex? You're talking about magic pills and positivity but what about preventive measures??
@Regal23_
@Regal23_ 11 ай бұрын
@@ellieharrison6905Look at our society today. Everyone is fuckn like dogs without restraint and there's a virus like HIV still very much in existence. The message of prevention is absolutely very important. We don't need some sugarcoated liberal message of magic pills and positivity and tattooing middle fingers and partying and getting drunk and probably still fuckin around because "I can't pass it on"
@ellieharrison6905
@ellieharrison6905 11 ай бұрын
@@Regal23_ not the case at all, and even if it was there’s no blame to be attached to this. One instance of unprotected sex is enough for transmission. Not to break it to you but you wouldn’t be alive and breathing without unprotected sex so it’s hardly something any of us should be guilty about. If you watch my other video I talk a lot about preventative measures and testing. If you read the title of this video it’s about being diagnosed not about prevention specifically.

I'm a 23 year old boy and it particularly makes me angry to see a beautiful young girl like you in this situation because unlike other patients, it's very likely that a girl like you contracted it from careless degenerate lifestyles and promiscuity because I've also been through college and witnessed first hand how people like you actively engaged in sexual acts without a care in the world! Reach out to those people and tell them to stop this hoe phase/ hook-up culture nonsense. Thank God for advancement in treatment, the mortality rates for AIDS would've been far worse than in the 90s because people are for sure sleeping around and spreading now than ever before.

Your positivity is admirable and uplifting to say the very least. I don’t think that their compassion for you was coming from a negative place though. It was ignorance; not denial of you doing well. The love and care from your community is beautiful and I’m sure that everyone going through this wishes they had a community as strong and loving as yours. The judgement and stigma is towards the disease; not the person. If they’re only stigmatizing the disease, they must be very receptive to the education you’ve provided about the condition. Lastly, I have worked on the pharmaceutical side of the healthcare system. These “magic pills” (anti-retrovirals) undoubtedly life saving, however, they are very harsh on the body. I’m not sure if you have been notified of the long term side effects of them, but I do want you be mindful of the physical (i.e. wasting) and mental (i.e. permanent cognitive impairment) that the vast majority of people taking this form of medication long term/life long. It is a stark reality, but reality nonetheless. We need awareness on all fronts of this condition, so that people are educated thoroughly. Not everyone will be accepting, however, honesty about the condition and medicine for it is needed. People can now live a long and prosperous with HIV, but it does come with a few downsides. Then again, life has downsides for us without HIV too; taking anti-retrovirals just makes your a bit more predictable (which isn’t that bad if you think about it, because at least you’d have time to prepare for it unlike the rest of us). This comment isn’t made with hate whatsoever. I just wanted to add some honest information about the medication. There’s nothing magical about a lot of medications, and we are to best avoid situations that would lead us to taking them. That’s where education such that you have provided regarding methods of transmission comes in! 😊 I wish you all the best! ❤

I survived rape and later came to know that he was hiv positive. I was traumatized. I shattered me from inside. I couldn't sleep at nights. The horror of being raped was itself a big trauma and imagination of carrying a virus as its savinour was even a bigger one. I stayed in denial for 16 months. I was afraid of getting tested. On January 02, 2024, i went to laboratory and got teated. I got my results after 3 hours. Those were the longest and moat painful 3 hours of my life. When they were drawing blood from my veins, i felt the same pain which i felt when he was raping me. I know, it was my brain who was playing tricks on me but i was literally paining down there. I cried, cried and cried. The doctors consoled me and called me brave. I CAME OUT NEGATIVE 🎉❤.. The happiest moment of my Life. Sorry for my bad English. You are very beautiful and loved. ❤❤ Sending you love and light from a sister, Ellie ❤

Someone close to me called me crying hysterically on the phone while at the hospital. I was the first person she told. We talked for 5 minutes and then she had to hang up cause her mom was calling. She called me back about 5 minutes later. She was way more calm, and kind of agitated. She told me her mom got mad at her for getting hiv. And was more worried about if she had it now. When she finally got home, her mom bought Clorox bleach products for the whole house and asks my friend to wipe the toilet and door knobs after she touches them. It got me so angry to think people are that dumb to think you can get it like that. Then she tells me that her brother hasn’t smoked with her since he found out.. it just goes to show how dumb people are, because if he was smoking with her the whole time she didn’t know she had it, and she was at her sickest point, why would they think now that she’s diagnosed and getting better that she’s even more contagious.

People really need to stop fixating so much on how those living with it, got it in the first place; Sure, it could be simply curiosity. However, I've noticed it tends to come from a place of judgement or stigma, which only creates more harm and shame, which only slows down progression in medicine.

In most of the cases a person who is HIV positive hides this fact with their sexual partner and spreads the virus intentionally...... So u should have approach that person and atleast break his face or leg for doing this to u... For making u go though all this trauma.....forsake ur old friends make new ones..... U are young women u have an active sex life, so take precautions.
