How to: DCC Ready Lima Models with Ringfield Motors.

In this video I show you how to convert a Lima Class 92 which has a ringfield motor from DC to DCC Ready with the use of a few tools and the Illuminated Models 8 pin board.
If like me you want to be able to insert and remove decoders freely without the hassle of hard wiring, This is for you!

The old Lima pancake motor is one of the most reliable and easily repaired model train power units ever. This is why there are still so many old Lima trains out there and running. Was never given the credit it deserved back in the day. But now it has become kind of legendary and for good reason. Also Mazok Rot and Zinc Pest will never be a problem for Lima locos.

Hi, when desoldering the leads from the motor, it looked like the soldering iron was dry, add just a bit of solder and the wires will come away a lot easier. Good video , thanks.

That was just what I was looking for as I have 2 Lima locos with Ringfield motors and was not confident in DCC fitting. I have ordered the plugs and wire and will give it a go . Any more how to do videos would be most welcome !!!!

Forgot to ask afetr you fitted the DCC decoder how did it run and did you have to change any CVs ?

I installed Lais decoders on all my old Lima locos, I did have a few issues but not with the decoders! The things I had to do to get excellent results were wheels cleaning on all locos, cleaned the pick ups and gave the ring fields a little bit of oil if needed. The 73 I done also needed new traction tires but they all run excellent now.

Thanks for the advice the decoder sockets have arrived and just waiting for some wire then I will give it a go on a class 59 😮😮

@@medwaypeninsulaMR a couple more tips if you have bad running, check the pick ups on the dummy bogie and ensure they have good contact with the wheels and if you are still having issues check and adjust the back to backs as one of our 59 played up until we adjusted the wheel spacing

great video ,just what I neeed for my Lima Diesels .I have one query on the wiring ,My Westerns do not have a black wire from the rear bogie wheels just a black from the clip on the pole .do you think this will affect the chip installation thanks

No, some only do have the one wire from the clip 👍so you should be all good to go.

I would recommend just snipping it off, it was only ever used to stop interference with old TV's
