In this video I show how to take apart and de power your power steering rack, I’m doing this on a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse gsx steering rack.

This is a PERFECT video for those who are trying to bring old DSM's back to life(like ME!). I'm wondering if anyone has done this to a 1g?? Is the rackNpinion a similar model? I'm working on a 1992 at the moment. And I'd MUCH rather stay in my garage and do this, than go fishing in a salvage yard, looking for a "possibly good" manual rack. Fantastic tutorial man... Thank you!

❤ nice one it ok but will the the steering now move freely like normal?

what keeps the rack from overtravel ,you eliminated the hyd piston and now the pinion gear can run up on the end of the rack teeth

Thinking about doing this to my 2G because of leaks everywhere. How does the steering feel on the road? Thanks for the vid 👍✌

This car won’t be on the road driving till summer sadly but it turns fine on the ground I’d say it’s a happy medium between power steering working and having it not work

Wouldn’t it be better to use gear oil? I mean you only removed the divider seal

De-power steering?

It removes the power steering pump and all its lines from your engine bay. Unless your running a race car or show car it’s not the best idea to do, it essentially converts your hydraulic power steering rack to a manual steering rack like you would find in like old 60’s and 70’s cars
