I just got to the end of your talk. Do you know what, I was searching specifically to hear Ajahn Brahm's perspective, his humour, his ability to assuage the feelings of discomfort I had after what happened last week. But I found only Ajahn Brahmali -- but I am happy I did. This was the first talk I ever heard of Ajahn Brahmali's, and I enjoyed it a lot. Thank you very much for sharing with us.

We are the grass in the meadow and the wind is all different emotions. No matter how hard the wind blows we, the grass, need to stand up straight and tall when the wind stops blowing so hard. Emotions and events come and go and it us who is in control if we fall or keep standing.

If you are a practicing Buddhist and on the left politically, what happened election night is a classic Buddhist outcome. A father with two sons, one is loving, kind and compassionate, while the other is just completely the opposite. Both are vying for their father's love and position. Who will the father choose? The loving, kind and compassionate son ... Or the one who has none of these qualities? ............... The father will pick the one without (WITHOUT!) these qualities. Why? Because he doesn't have to worry about the son who is loving and kind. The son who is compassionate will still be compassionate and kind ... whether or not he's chosen. So the father will choose the troubled son so he can work with him and teach him. The father has love for both his son's equally !! EQUALLY !

I think the problem is tt ppl can't deal with the shock and helplessness because things are going to affect them very quickly. So, ppl need to be given the tools and methods to learn and go through lessons of survival. Ppl need to learn how to get together to give a certain amount of support to each other.

This teaching, in my understanding of it, is to just show you the inevitability of a shift in the status-quo. Acting out of a place of wisdom, which is difficult when clouded by our uncertainties and attachments to perception (which is subject to constant change), is pivotal in trying times. Simply accepting the way things are in the world, allowing for peace in-between the expectations and failings of the world (which, in truth, are essentially the most natural thing about the world), is not going to change the world externally. If you act skillfully, wisely, in your speech and acts -not harboring ill-will- then that is how you thrive here and now through adversity. If you lead by example, from a place of compassion and wisdom, perhaps more than just your own perspective and perception will change.

SS I live in a mostly Indian community in the U.S. what is usually bustling and somewhat noisy place. You can hear a pin drop for days. I have wanted this for so long..but not for this reason. They, like me are afraid and realizing our life path may have to change. Things are neither good nor bad, and you make your own karma. For me I am accepting this outcome as a vote of many people I cannot understand. Do I need to understand them? is that helpful? There is open racism but there is also people being very gentle kind and generous in this stressful time. You will always be in the best place I think with that attitude.

Basically the choice was who you thought could do the least damage. As a tax paying white person in America, I am not OK with immigrants coming here expressly to get on welfare. There has been a lot of overt racism against white which gets under reported. THis is fanning the flame of anger. My solution is secession - let the states go their own ways. You want to support of bunch of freeloader? Have at it. I want the Constitution in its original form. But can guarantee the folks here are only addressing perceived racism against blacks, not whites.

I took that to mean "coming from the right place" in context of the dhamma talk. There a lot of atheists that are that way because they hate religion and want to do harm to it, there are also atheists that truly believe through experience and introspection that there is no God, etc
