Honestly not really. I'm a Smiley Face main, and even when I butchered my first chase, I've had more than enough matches against actually decent and even good survivors to still be a tie. Simply because, I didn't went in with the mentality "Welp that's over" as soon as my first chase, or even after changing targets, took so long they managed to finish 3 ciphers and most definitely start at the last two already. Hell, even had matches where both sides were so stubborn we spent almost 30min in a match, just to get "only" a tie. One of the biggest issues I see hunter players have, is that they give up way too quickly, followed by wanting to be rewarded for playing simply put, absolutely horrible.

@@triotriggerhardt4035 idk. when you get to higher ranks if you dont get 1st survivor down before a cipher pops its usually a tie or loss. always a loss if the survs play good enough, and theres nearly nothing you can do to make them mess up bad enough. unless they're just not good survs. or i guess also hunter dependent, like mad eyes doesnt have this issue.

Sometimes it depends on which hunter you play and the survivors I play dw alot and it sometimes takes some time to down but im able to turn a game around with map pressure.and also the classic survivors get greedy moments. A game can turn around which is why you never stop trying to get a win or tie until the survivors are out to the gate

Honestly what helped me was getting absolutely dogged in rank constantly. No joke, last season I had a three week losing streak where even in quick match, rank, anything, ANYTIME i played hunter I lost. I wasn’t just casually playing every now and then either, I was playing at least 20 matches per day at that time because I was grinding for badges and had a lot of vacation days. 😭 Was top 50 Mary during that time too 😭 The embarrassment I would feel, getting 5 cipher kited, having survivors constantly getting four man wins against me and they could see that I was top 50… very humbling. But once you get through the worst you realize that nothing happens if you lose. Yeah you lose rank points but so what? You get them back, get better. No one gets to their dream rank without losing. Now I’m way better than I was back then and even rematched against some of the same teams and won with ease. In the end it’s just a game.✌🏼

First /j Jokes apart, to me hunter anxiety stems from how toxic survs are in general no matter if you win or lose, and the current balancing state of the game disencourages me to play in general so I have been doing only surv for years.

Honestly, I have gaming anxiety with team comps in general and hunter, it’s been embarrasing for me to admit. I’ve played this game since mid 2019, used to not care at all but then anxiety decides to pop up in my life and now it affects my gameplay socially too. I used to avoid hunter at all costs, it was dreadful to me, especially counting in the toxic people you can meet. It’s so bad I’d get mad over a survivor emoting, because it gave the illusion of them mocking me for not being able to catch them. You know what’s funny though, now everytime I play hunter I always win, full on win streak, no lie. So, I always wonder why the hell I’m so scared of playing hunter. I guess it’s just not wanting to go through the anger and stress I used to felt over a game. It affects survivor too, for long periods of time I did not want to play at all even though I desperately wanted to. I always play solo, and sometimes I wished I had a group of friends so it didn’t feel as intimidating despite it being quick match. (I quit ranking after reaching Griffin/Croc) I forced myself to always play Doctor/Enchantress/Priestess. Why? I was used to them. They were for me, the easiest to kite with. I was so afraid of letting down my teammates and embarrasing myself with another character that I stuck myself to ones I had no freaking interest or fun in at all. It was horribly repetitive for a year. Truly, I wanted to be support/resc: Batter, Cowboy, Mercenary, First Officer etc. I actually found it fun to play these characters but I couldn’t bear failing and being the bad random, so I never played them when given the chance. Btw in rank literally I played Enchantress EVERY MATCH because she was the easiest for me to kite with. I had no reason to main her, I didn’t want a badge, I just wanted to rank up without disappointing people with my lack of self confidence in kiting. Now, I’ve kinda realised that it’s not that deep. Everyone gets bad matches or encounters bad teammates, and that’s just how games work. I like how in the video you phrased it as false validation whatever, it really like just made sense yk. Thanks for making this video, it really resonated with me.

I started hunter ranking cause the pressure of having to cooperate with other players and the fact that they can be mean on the after match was putting me off. Playing hunter was better cause it's you and only you, that's until i started going against better players who kited me for 5 ciphers or harassers freeing others from the baloon and stunning me at every chance possible. I'm still a very low rank but yet the anxiety of "I NEED to win this" is already here. Thank you for this video really, it was what i needed to hear!

People put too much stock in losing or what survivors say in this game, when most of them are just young teenagers. Turn post match off, get comfy surrendering if a game is a loss, and don't engage with toxic survs in any way. Your social status and clout in a game truly don't matter. For example, if survs are gate waiting and pinging you, just stay where you are, don't worry about them, let them leave. Sometimes they even get cocky and come back out, only to give you a win. Also I give this advice a lot, but seriously, record and review all your matches. Once you learn to review and understand why you actually lost (a bad chase, a bad matchup, etc) you'll understand you lose because of specific decisions and conditions, some of which are changeable, some of which are out of your control, not just a general "I'm bad" type of deal. Get comfortable recognizing when a match is a tie and learning how to secure a tie; knowing you are confident in at least getting a tie and not a loss can ease a lot of anxiety. Understand that improvement comes from deliberate, INTENTIONAL practice, not from mindlessly schooling worker bee survs all day. An artist isn't going to improve by scribbling all day, they need to actually identify what they're bad at and focus on deliberately improving it. If you are bad at hitting through pallets, you need to actually practice that to get better at it. What I also mean by this is that if you haven't put genuine concentrated work into learning a certain hunter/hunter in general, you cannot expect to be good at it yet! You need to be kind to yourself and not set expectations too high before you're ready, but also understand you aren't going to be a master hunter when you don't really try in any serious capacity. And lastly, anxiety won't go away unless you make an effort to push yourself. It sucks, but it's how it is. Get out there and rank. You aren't entitled to results unless you actually put the work in.

Commenting more into this, I agree post match being disabled helps a lot. I mean by a lot, you'll feel better not knowing what people will say. I personally have friend requests disabled to so I can be really comfortable because some people WILL waste their time to harass you, I'd rather not have that happen so I disabled them. I still get hunter anxiety but If im rlly at the edge of getting angered I just surrender so i dont see them win. I also dont want them to get that win (as in they open the gate and stuff) so i just surrender. Survivors will mock you in game but don't pay attention to them, Why? I swear to you, they'll act the same way as you do if they've played hunter. You are NOT the only one that gets mock, MOST hunters get mocked. Nothing happens, its a game. People just take a game so seriously, ignore that. YOU MUST keep going and NOT take this game seriously

I feel like it’s more difficult with hunter as the whole outcome of your match can be altered with just one mistake you make that the survivors can capitalise on. Whereas with survivor, making mistakes puts less pressure on you since there are 4 survivors each match and your mistake can be made up for quite often. Also, every second of each match counts on you as the hunter since you must be focused throughout the match and constantly must perform well while when you play as survivor, you can sometimes just win or draw and only have decoded most the match because not every match will be focused on you if you aren’t first kite. Even if you are first kite, you still may not have as much pressure because you can receive assist from supports at points which make it easier
@V_Slade_V

It goes both ways, that’s why it’s important to get frustrated by one little mistake, it’s not something worth dwelling on or constantly overthinking about.

Playing at a high tier as hunter and trying to win, will usually always give you some sort of anxiety. It’s the same for any game, you eventually get used to that anxiety, stay calm and manage to push through it. Or you even use it as fuel to help you win. The important thing is to not beat yourself up if you lose.

This quite literally described the beginning of my hunter journey. My first hunter main was Robbie and when I hit high manticore I started losing left and right. I was 13th Robbie before I took a long break after the pressure from survivors was just too much. I was getting called names every other day and it was seriously affecting my mental health. All the losses made me feel like I wasn’t good enough to ever even hit dragon. So I dropped Robbie and learned to step back and learn new hunters. It was humbling for me but also fun. It payed off because I recently hit peak tier last season and you’ve been an inspiration of mine your videos are always so helpful when I’m trying to pick up a new hunter. Watching this video also made me wanna pick up Robbie again. Amazing video👍❤

for the time being, I faced anxiety before and during the game for the hunter. I was very worried that I would play badly and the survivors would make fun of me for it. it doesn't matter if it's in the post-match or between them by communication. it made me feel better when I found out that my friend is also afraid to play for hunters, because her hands are starting to sweat a lot and her heart is beating faster.

The main reason why I have severe hunter anxiety is because of THOSE survivors. I’m someone who dwells on things even when I say “I don’t care” and it’s exhausting. They make me feel like I’m not confident enough on my hunter skills and I haven’t actually played hunter in a long time because of that. You make one mistake as a hunter and it’s like everything and everyone is against you and if a survivor makes multiple they still have a chance. I really wanna play hunter again but my anxiety is so bad when I even think about playing hunter so I’m forced to play against bots in custom. I really hope I can get over it someday

I'm a spider still and i'm working slowly on getting over my weird anxiety over the hunter faction, but got some pretty fun games so far. One thing i like about this game it's that requires consistency, hard work and facing some bad things like anxiety, learning how to deal with toxic people and so on. It's a personal thing but it honestly helps me to improve as a person on my day to day life, to face failure, bad situations, bad people and see it's not the end of the world. This have helped my anxiety to lower down a lot, i still get anxious but i have an easier time to go over it~! i think this is a video everyone should watch. i'm not a hunter main, never have been, i've been a survivor main since season 12. only recently did i actually start playing rank seriously, and i managed to grind all the way up to alicorn. let me tell you, griffin and alicorn randoms are the WORST. it honestly feels very hopeless in survivor knowing that i can consistently get 100+ second kites, do amazing, but because my randoms mess up, or a rescue gets stuffed, the wrong choice is made from my teammates, etc. etc., that i'll lose. i have genuinely cried countless times this season because it can sometimes feel so hopeless knowing that no matter what i do, it doesn't matter a whole lot if my team doesn't have the same amount of game sense as i do. it has honestly taken so much training to just say "i don't care, i'll get there eventually". even now, the only reason i've really come to that realization is because i've been on a really bad loss streak recently. like, i was alicorn 4, demoted to alicorn 5, and lost 3 stars bad loss streak. this video has really helped, because you're right about everything said here. it doesn't matter, i'll make it up eventually. it's not worth crying over, or getting upset over, because it's just a game. fictional points in a fictional game. it doesn't matter if i get a badge psychologist, it doesn't matter if i lose my barmaid badge, because i'll get there eventually. it sucks losing, but the most i can do is look over my own gameplay, see what i did wrong, and improve from there, and if i did nothing wrong it shouldn't bother me because i did everything i could, and that's what really matters. my skill speaks for itself, not some silly tier on my profile. all of that to say, thank you for this video slade. even from a survivor perspective, this is such good advice, and really important to keep in mind when playing.

This is what I and everyone else really needed to hear. People never talk about the anxiety that can come along with playing hunter and it can make you feel alone. Ive been playing idv for 4 years and I have never once stuck to hunter for more than 1/2 months. Whenever I do force myself to play hunter I quickly begin to lose because of course I am. Although I am not a new player I am new to hunter. I love the idea of playing hunter/becoming a strong hunter but I cant stand to lose so much that I stress myself out to the point where I shake profusely during matches (even qm). I would get so upset/embarrassed over losing that I never give myself time to learn and grow into the hunter I want. I am still getting over this feeling and I hope to begin playing hunter once the new season begins❤️

Thank you for the video, it helps hunter anxiety is real. For me it's because i've to face players WAY above my league. Background: I was a pro survivor in release seasons and had very high win streaks and very high tiers at that time. I never touched hunter back in the day to the point the game automatically made my hunter patrona 120 because I didn't do that myself lol. I took long periods of the game sometimes and am now back and want to be a hunter main this time, but idk if it's because i've a release pro account or because my game got bugged over the years but I am in the second lowest hunter tier (snake?) and i've to battle against champions / peak tier players, so i'm basically playing the game on nightmare mode since i've to get used to both hunter in general and the character while battling coordinated teams. And yeah it's nice I won against a top 20 player while only playing bq for third time in rank, but I've like a 10% winrate and I dropped so many rank points it won't even let me get lower which is so demotivating. Quick match for me is fine and I have winstreaks so it's too easy there so i'm soft locked in the game, don't want to restart because all skins + achievables are on this profile. Idk if you've any tips for this I get the anxiety when seeing champions or a/s badge players. I do learn quickly since they play at their best so I guess that's an advantage and winning feels really rewarding but most matches I get destroyed which yeah sucks. Sorry to hear you had depression, I know what that's like and personally I had it too at a young age but gladly overcame it after almost losing myself, nowadays i've a really chill life with a lot going on and achieved lots of stuff so always stay strong because things will always get better. I usually never comment on videos and only discovered your channel recently but keep it up man you're doing well and I wish you the best

And this is only for hunter, I've ranked up to griffin with survivor with zero fears/anxiety, probably because in survivor you're teamed up. And like you said, it really is lack of knowledge for me, usually when I play hunter I feel as if I win mostly from survivor mistakes, there are times were I'm like yeah, I won that because I swapped to abnormal or something, that was me, but that's a very small amount of the time. I developed hunter anxiety after a really bad match where I (on Geisha) got bullied by who I suspect was a duo smurf team of Novelist (pre-rework) and Little Girl. Like even when I did finally recognize I was getting kited and bullied and left them, they literally chased me across the map. It's to the point where even now, almost a year later, I still have yet to touch Hunter rank again and even considering queueing for hunter in Duos (primarily when alone) or Quick Match gives me a near panic attack. (I do also suffer from diagnosed anxiety though so I know this intense of a reaction isn't typical.) When I do finally get myself to play, if I see a comp or character that might bully me, I'm able to help myself not panic more by telling myself "you're going to get bullied and you have to prepare for it". About 80% of the time, because I'm so prepared I wind up NOT getting bullied as a result, but that doesn't make the fear queueing go away, necessarily. :(

This season, however, I lost so many games that I've become Buddha (lol). I realized that I don't really need to win a lot and it's better to just look at my cute duckie and feel happy that I'm playing well or not. I also decided to play on the other faction for a bit and I am almost on alicorn, which I'm really proud. I am playing Lucky Guy and ik he is easy to get a badge, but I also got an S badge on him, which makes me feel really good. I'm still on a good rank with Bonbon (I think 28), but I feel way better now being able to do exactly what you described "play hunter -> if I feel like I am not my best and will get stressed -> change to the other faction -> and the cycle goes on". This way I've been recovering my bad winrate that I got at the start of the season and am almost going back to the 50% LMAO. I want to see if at the end of the season I can make it to the 60%, but if I can't, I still am proud of myself. Although my wr is not as good as in last season and my rank is not too high like I usually aim (am at cyclops), I'm satisfied. Last season I went to cyclops with 100% of wr stressing myself, ranking up and going "insane" to the upper ranks, but now I am here at 48% in Cyclops having fun (way better).

I'm very glad that I stopped playing this game a couple of years ago! Being a hunter main was just so exhausting and stressful. whenever I went to play, my hands would start to shake, I sweated and I had tachycardia. I didn't feel any of this playing as a survivor (even when losing) and I've never felt anything even close to that playing other games

Thanks for opening up and turning your experiences into encouragement. In terms of learning new characters, how would you recommend learning playstyles for more technical hunters like Mad Eyes, Photo, Dream Witch, etc who rely a lot on mind-gaming and somewhat indirect chase? HappyBud and tournament streams showcase high-level tactics that are often wasted at lower tiers, and bots don't react to those hunters or their abilities.

With those types of characters you will have to just put in a lot more time and commitment into them. Those types of characters can only be self taught imo, so if you want to play them you will need to commit.

I quit playing hunter after my sister got a sabertoothed tiger during my vacation last summer, and it became too difficult for me after returning to IDV. After endless loose streak I didn't play until the COA this January, and now (III-V) I started to understand, that it wasn't worth it - I was so afraid even to go quick matches for soooo long time, but I felt so sad without my fav characters! And now it's my first motivation for playing hunters, because it's really fun, and I want to improve my feeling of their gameplay. Not in ranked matches for now, but... It's also a step forward. I have not as much time for games, as it seems I need for real progress, but at least. Don't look at the wr, and at postmatch too - just do what you like. It's important for our nervous system

I definitely agree with you. I also have hunter anxiety. I’ve been fairly good at being a survivor and I wouldn’t take the losses to heart. It’s a team game after all and everyone plays a part. But as a hunter even in the normal matches I get hunter anxiety. I’m not good as a hunter and survivors capitalize on it. They start spamming emotes and it gets pretty toxic. I’m a spider tier hunter, meanwhile they’re mammoth tier survivors😂 The matching system isn’t good and it discourages hunters from even playing. Especially if you’ve lvled up in the survivor tier but not in the hunter tier. It’d make more sense to make the hunter a higher tier than the survivors. There’s only one hunter vs four survivors like come on! What’s kept me going is the fact this is just a game and no one cares. Sure players can be toxic but they don’t even know who you are, it’s not personal they’re just being mean to be mean you know? Learn to laugh at your mistakes, learn from your mistakes and just have fun. If you’re stressing on a game you’re doing it wrong. Remember it’s about having fun everyone usually spams glhf in chat and they’re right. This also applies to hunters too! Good luck and have fun guys and gals!

Thank you for making this video. It genuinely does help. I still remember playing hunter on qm and getting a win bit since I prefer playing surv more I change my faction and got a previous surv as a teammate. The thing is whenever I got down I always say sorry, like genuinely. But this surv kept spamming sorry at me afterwards without helping me whatsoever and that really stress me out since I know that he's using it sarcastically. I blocked that player afterwards but it made me scared to play both surv and hunter faction even more 😅

This is so true, i had 1.3k points on robbie already since like after 3 seasons i started since i was dedicated, and it was all fine i was happy with my 87 winrate on rank but then when i reached like sabertooth i suddenly rained down into a pile of defeats and losses and basically toxic survs i come across very often. I get so nervous whenever i do go huntering so bad that my hands start to either sweat or shake, and my heart rate goes up and above like 120 below, like sheesh. Thank you for this though, ill try getting out there and trying again. I never really played anymore, since im a hunter main -- thank you for this video slade 🐱🐱

On top of everything Slade has already said, another tip I have is to play a different gamemode if you enjoy any of them!! I think BJ is great for practicing kiting/chase, Duo Hunters is great for practicing new survivors without as much risk, etc. Another thing I like doing is playing with teleport and changing targets freely. I.e. no intention of taking the match seriously. Just teleporting around and getting chase practice. Obviously you will not win like that unless survivors mess up bad. I think it's a nice change of pace, personally :) I also 100% agree about trying to play characters that are hard to learn or relatively easy to counter. Because as a Naiad player I can confirm that I have NO IDEA how to counter people who know how to counter me HSDJA- 16:50 this segment rings very close to home for me rn, as I have recently realized that the way I handle my shortcomings generally (i.e. not well hsdjsd-) is very easy to observe in my reactions to IDV. On that note, it sounds like you've improved a lot irt your mindset, Slade! I hope things are going well / looking up otherwise as well!! Sending digital regards your way. I also think it's very useful for people to pay attention to what mannerisms they have when gaming because, as you said, it usually is something that affects people in other aspects of their life too and sometimes it's not obvious to connect the root of these overlaps. It's good to pay a bit attention to stuff like that. _____ (personal stuff/lots of rambles from here on out haha-) My own hunter anxiety feels a bit weird, because I don't care about tiers/points/winrate at all and only care about badges minimally. And I've also actually been super lucky with the playerbase tbh? I perceive this game's playerbase as very chill and not that toxic overall with rare exceptions. In my soon 3 years of playing this game I only have had a handful of times I've been insulted (with the most recent time alr being 1-2 months back and being like, a very uncreative sexist remark so- yknow). And the teams that wipe the floor with me the most are sometimes the most encouraging and nicest people in post-chat. Maybe I'm just in a very lucky Lvl/tier + timezone combination haha- And I also don't feel it for survivor at all. If I mess up as survivor, sure it's frustrating/I feel guilty and I might apologize in post-chat, but I'm still fine playing more survivor. So, I can only assume it's either the experience/reaction of the other side when losing or just the exhausting factor? Like, maybe I would dread survivor more if I actually got toxic teammates or "thank you"/"you're on your own" spammers (and I've personally NEVER met a toxic hunter, at most maybe a "troubled" emote when I fuck up in a funny way). While as hunter I've def had my fair share of taunting, gate-waiting, emoting and getting piled on when I was already losing. I've gotten a lot better at taking it "calmly" / not letting it get to me too much even when it annoys me, but something within me still gets personally offended at not being taken seriously / being perceived as incompetent, esp by anyone who wasn't my target. A really random and pathetic aspect to this "self-consciousness" I have is actually skins. I got DW Envoy out of pure luck, and so I was training my DW afterwards - and uh, I only used Envoy like once or twice. I was too scared to use it and fail horribly, and be insulted of "being all looks", basically?? Maybe this plays into the stereo-typically female fear to be "reduced" to looks, but it's such a STUPID hangup to have :") Skins are there to be nice to look at, and yet here I am not using them HSDJ- It's also partially being upset at the game sometimes and feeling a bit more deserving of good results than the survivors who didn't see me all game, y'know? Because most of my losses historically come down to a good kite or good rebound, and then I get annoyed that nobody but 1st kite really had to do anything for their win, while I had to be on full concentration the entire time and still only got a 1k. Ik that's partially the nature of any asymmetric game and also a skill-issue for not getting a down faster, but I do really wish that playing hunter at anything less than 120% wasn't so absolutely depressing for me shajasd- Ik the game won't change in any drastic way, so I won't go onto a whole tangent about the changes I'd like, and in the end I just have to accept I don't really want to switch to other games either so- i'm stuck here. (That being said I rly want a hunter that hard-counters how fast endgame is. Think something like the pig's reverse bear traps from DBD, maybe in exchange for a unique detention implementation (like Percy having unique variations of some personas). I'd love that. But I also enjoy Percy. Just anything that changes up the monotony of matches haha) ANYWAY. there goes my absolute monster of a textwall again orz If anyone actually read all that, I'm sending digital cookies your way. I will now go and actually do my job asdhjd-

When i first started playing this game i was really scared of playing survivor because of accidentally letting my teammates down and end up being called out for it, so i started playing hunter first and Grace was my first main, i made it to crocodile before feeling really stressed out with her and losing a lot of games, all survivors were just better than me and i ended up taking a break from the game for a few months before coming back to try out Evil Reptilian and it was a way better experience for me, I've been getting higher and higher in tiers and i managed to keep an A badge for Luchino. + Your videos on him were such a big improvement for me, I ended up learning a lot of strategies and lost the fear i had before, Thanks

Not going to lie, I got over it because I started blaming external circumstances. I play clerk and dream witch, and I either blame that survivors are too strong, I had a bad game, or the game sucks 😂. I don’t get upset at comments, I find them empowering. I’ve been told to go unalive myself in many different ways and languages, but they just mad cuz skill issues and I’m just better (especially if I pop last cipher as Clerk and their draw becomes a lose). If I lose, I just exit the chat.

And i really enjoyed playing soul weaver and geisha but as time went by i started to lose and lose and of course for me its a game everyone loses games but i started developing hunter anxiety because i was afraid of losing especially if i do a bad first chase its pretty much gg even if i tried hard i only get a tie or if survivors royally fucked up a win. The first season i started hunter ranking i made it into mid sabertooth and a badge nightmare. I couldn't continue playing after that cause I kept getting legendary matches with griffins and that always made me so nervous because i still didn't know much about the game and the badge kept putting so much pressure on me. Right now I'm just ranking from time to time to maintain my b badge with which I'm comfortable with.

I started playing in 2020 and my hunter anxiety got so bad towards 2023 that as id queue up for matches my heart would pound so hard and id legit get nauseous. I was always afraid of the survivors who would come and harass in large groups for no reason other than to be annoying and the ones who would emote and stand at the gate. There was a period of time for a couple months where id ONLY play custom matches with bots, because i did love playing hunter but the toxic emoting survivors were just genuinely too much for me 🥲 anyways i still very much do have hunter anxiety, but its not as bad as before and im actually able to play real matches again. I do think the biggest advice is to just stop playing for a while because i took about a year long break

I were 13 Antonio like.. a month ago or something? My peak were 11 but I lost a couple on Sunday ranked so I fell to 13. And after that, I just keep losing more and more. I’m somewhat 65-70(didn’t check) now and, although I don’t really care for losing (I used to tho, few years ago I would literally cry over lose streak) I still get a little frustrated about it, because I really didn’t knew what I was doing wrong. I still don’t know, to be honest. I check pro violinist matches, I read stuff, I rewatch some of Antonio guides and stuff but I still don’t understand what I do wrong. I know it’s my problem totally and not some ping/freeze thing (tho funny but i got more freezes and bigger ping in this month. Maybe that also affected my games?) but this confusion is hitting harder than any anxiety or anger and stuff.
