Some of the neighbors next door we had years ago were the kind of people who were quiet most of the day but as soon as the clock hit midnight every weekend they would play sh*tty music at an incredibly loud volume despite them having a toddler at the time. This would always last until like 5 am if we were lucky and, since we shared a wall with them (the houses here are built one right next to the other), this was a huge issue, especially in those occasions when these folks decided that weekends were not enough and did that stuff any other day. Cops were called a few times but nothing really happened as the neighbors would turn the volume down while the cops were there but would eventually turn it up once they left and there was really nothing the cops could do other than that due to the laws here. So, we decided to play their own game one day. We waited until their bed time came (which we assumed was around 6 am since that's more or less when the sh*tty music would stop), took the speakers from the sound system we have, set everything all up facing and pressed against that shared wall (which is actually the bedroom wall), and played some music at max volume for like 1 to 2 hours. Mfers couldn't handle a round of the fastest songs from Anthrax, Motorhead and the likes. From then on, the all-night-every-weekend-full-volume-sh*t-music stopped. They eventually moved, so they're probably doing that shit again wherever they moved to. We also live surrounded by sh*t neighbors tbh. The kinds that let their dogs out on their own or walk them without a leash and of course they don't pick up after them. Those who have cats and let them wander around EVERYWHERE so it's normal to come to cat sh*t in your backyard as well. Those who use YOUR parking spot to park THEIR cars and then get offended when you block the spot so they can't use it. The Party Every Weekend kind (which usually overlaps with the "Tough Guy" Who Is Actually A Mama's Boy type). The gossipy ones, and so on, so yeah. Lots of fun here... 🙄

When I was 5, we had a neighbor who shot our cat. This wasn't rural; this was on the main street of town. We also suspected her of breaking into our cellar and every time a black friend came over, she'd call the cops on us. The police were so mortified that they threatened her with harassment. I'm not sure what exactly happened after we moved, but I heard she was "run out of town."

I’ve had 2 separate sets of terrible neighbors. One of them I got their family arrested/broken up with divorce with false information (pretended that a random girl was leaving pregnancy notes and flowers and spurned lover notes for the asshole husband) and a smear campaign against the wife who was a child.abusing (putting out cigarettes on the children kind of abuse) alcoholic. The second i saw them making moonshine and watched their setup go up in flames and burn down their home. I had nothing to do with that one but I found it hilarious.

Maybe something like a 5 strike rule where if you constantly call the police on your neighbours for no good reason, you'd be charged per call that is pointless. Of course, no sane person would need to call more than 5 times, and neither for Karen reasons.

I feel extremely lucky. I don't think I've ever had to deal with a bad neighbor. Even after moving into my first apartment, the only thing we have to deal with is the occasional smell of weed. Now, I do think my mother once told us about a landlord that would drop by whenever, unannounced, as they had their own key, but I think that was in England, and when I was very very young.

Lived in a single family home with my wife and her family for nearly 3 years which was tough enough. Then I had one neighbor who would constantly call the township on us if there was a single thing about the house he thought was a violation, just because he was a real prick, but then would act nice to my face. Other neighbor who lived to my left had 5 kids, and his wife is a drunk. The house constantly sounded like a domestic disturbance, and he leaves his 2 dogs outside 24/7. They barked incessantly and he never shut them up even after being told to stop them multiple times by the police. The yard also reeked of urine and feces to the point where I couldn't work on my antique car in my driveway because the wind would blow the smell over to my yard. Finally purchased my first home and moved far away from them. All of my neighbors are the most pleasant people I've ever met.

Both my "worst ever" neighbours moved away of their own volition; both lived in the very same house. Unfortunately, the first worst neighbour only moved a few houses away. So I'm here looking for hints and tips, not much so far in "how to deal with neighbours" from hell. However, if I made myself a cloak and went down two houses with a large bag of salt I'm pretty sure I could empty the entire street...because I've already got two black cats and another calico one who come and visit me every day. (Ironically, none are mine lol). When the first bad neighbour from hell strolls past my place (sticky beaking to see what I'm doing in my own front yard with the cats), ALL of the cats let me know they're coming by becoming very alert and growling. So I'm well on the way, just need the cloak and maybe some really messy hair to complete the picture...

I also have a garage with a divider between. Half mine, half the neighbor's. The previous homeowners would store their garbage in there and let it fester for weeks, attracting mice and making it smell like something died. I didn't put my car in there, because it was not practical, given the awkward angle from the driveway (may have been designed for horse and buggy days). Also "shared" driveway, which doesn't work with cars and neighbors who keep different hours from me. I ended up carving out a driveway all on my property. The current neighbors don't store their garbage in the garage. They just throw it out the back door and let the critters have at it, stinking up the whole neighborhood. Yay.

For the first story: Why would you lie about your dog being a service dog to force the apartment to let you keep it, only to then keep it out in the yard and never take it inside, and barely even take care of it? Also, why would you get a second dog when you're already neglecting the first one? Those poor pups...

My last neighbors (17M ) we lived next to these trees and this old white guy his old Taiwanese wife and their daughter (15) we lived there for like 4 years and were our only neighbors and it started slow complaining that we ran over his stack of rocks on the corner of the driveway (we shared a drive way ) sly comments like saying “don’t get my daughter into trouble “ when she started going to my high school , always acting dramatic when one of our dogs was outside at the same time as theirs and they’d play together (same size dogs) the wife always staring at us through their front window when we were outside in our lawn with our family or the husband always complaining about noise, like when me and my friend were boxing in our backyard listening to music( not that loud )and he said to change it ( slight cussing it was hip pop ) because there’s kids in the neighborhood ( the youngest kids being his 16 yr old daughter and my 12 yr old sister ) or when my at the time girlfriend moved in with me and we’d hangout in my backyard with my sis come out complaining and stood outside our fence while we were tanning to call the cops on us while we were listening to music , but never did anything about their dog literally walking through our open door into our house 😂or having 4 cars park in the driveway and block us from leaving , we moved out a year later and when my parents were there to give the tour to the new family they pulled up in fancy convertibles bumping loud rap music 😂and since we’re good friends with our old landlady ( our new house is the house she lived in ) she let us know that a big family moved in and are currently in a war with the crappy neighbors as they hate them too

Got them to leave by having a buddy in surplus SWAT gear patrol past their home flipping them off. House was sold after two weeks, after they had sped off in their obnoxious RV that night. They hung around with unsavory types and would trash everyone’s properties, even let their boxer charge and try to bite people. Nearly broke one of its ribs when it tried attacking my dog and I.

The “service dog” thing is more likely an ESA (emotional support animal). They are NOT service animals. It’s just any animal that gives you comfort that you can get prescribed to keep by a psychiatrist. But you can also just pay online to get the certificate. ESAs don’t have to be trained at all. They’re literally just your pet with a nice name. You can take them with you to apartments/college dorms/etc but they are in no way a service dog. People are absolutely ruining this service as it works well with people with anxiety.

The drunk you used to live upstairs would fall off the sofa at all hours and BANG she went on the floor waking everyone up since the building wasn't soundproofed. She constantly bummed money and a ride to the bottle shop, literally half a block away, and never paid anyone back or so much as a thank you, just take take take She used to do really petty stuff too, if she was drinking an iced coffee outside she would sit the empty bottle *on top* of the bin, or she would take her garbage outside and sit it *next to* the bin not in it. And hos dad would only buy it for super cheap and wouldn't understand that my step dad wanted more for it because it was where his kids grew up eventually he just gave up so he wouldn't have too deal with it more. I know there were more storys but when we moved we were dealing with a bunch of shit and it was 4 years ago.

A guy wakes up after a bender in his own bed, finds a glass of cold water & 2 aspirin on the nightstand, his clothes for the day neatly laid out. He wanders downstairs & sees his son already enjoying a delicious breakfast, all prepared. He asks, "Son, what's going on?" "Dad, you came home drunk last night! You wrecked the car in the garage, broke the umbrella stand on the way in, & were being a total dick to mom." "Where is your mom? Why isn't she here arguing with me?" "Oh, she went to the store. The worst thing that happened to me is I'd hear my upstairs neighbor thump his feet onto the floor while getting out of bed at 5:30 AM. Then I'd hear his footsteps to the kitchen for water, then down the hall to the bathroom for shower. So I'm up. Then around 9 PM, start notice I'm getting drowsy. So, I'm living on HIS schedule! So my next apartment I insisted on top of 2 floor unit. Fine until I got a new downstairs neighbor who doesn't clean up after his dog craps. So I can't use my patio without dog shit smell!
