In december, I had my music exams, three in a row and the week after another one. Every time I was really nervous, but with my harp exam, I entered the room, went to that harp and started playing with the words "This is what I like to do, I love playing the harp, and it is just my teacher with the principal music teacher in front of me who are interested in me and who want me to do it well" in my head. After that exam, my teacher told me that I played very well, and that I had a very good control of my nerves, and after all, I had an 82%!

Encouragement helps me think I might be able to overcome the anxiety, so I will keep trying. But it is a struggle.

Playing music is much like taking a test......preparation is everything!

I like to think of it as an experiment that I approach with curiosity - something I imagine most people enjoy more than a test! 💛

Thank you this was so helpful. 💖I am teaching myself to play the harp with the help of an incredible friend. Even though I have a lot of storytelling experience I would like to add the harp. The uncertainly of playing and telling stories has changed and heightened my anxiety. But I am starting small with little sounds, cords or very simple pieces that can begin or end anywhere. That way I don't feel the need to play anything perfectly. Also when teaching over Zoom I will keep the harp nearby and play if students want to hear me as they work. Your idea about the window also works really well. I heard someone applauding in the distance after I finished playing on my porch :) So its a challenge but I feel good that it can all our work well again Thank You!
