Going through my training currently. I have extreme anxiety and wanted to take this challenge to push myself and show I can do this. So much harder than it looks, already have been yelled at, messed up orders, all the mistakes. Trying to be easier on myself and manage that stress cause focusing on my mistakes and being angry at myself for being stressed at all is so counter productive. Really trying to focus on the job itself and how to better balance the tables. really learned you've got to write everything down!!!! and breathe!! you're not supposed to be 100℅ perfect when you're starting out, it can only go up from there you just gotta want it!
@IamPowerSurgeOfficial6 жыл бұрын
Excellent advice! I also write everything down even after serving for close to 15 years now. I make brief notes of each detail . Good luck on your stress and anxiety. One thing to remember if your getting yelled at is that 1 the person yelling looks bad not you and 2 he’s or she’s yelling cuz they have a serious internal problem , feel bad for them instead of returning the anger. Thanks for the comment ❤️

I messed up so many orders during my first couple months of training as a server... Nothing is worse than going to the kitchen and asking them to make an order after they were supposed to be closed (first time I was cussed out at work!). I still make mistakes now and then (small ones!), but its important to own up to it with customers. No one likes being lied to and people understand when you make mistakes or are swamped. Good luck servers, and don't take critics to seriously, its just dinner! :)

I needed this comment first time as a server (in life) this week and I’ve messed up lots of times and my manager(s) treat me like crap because of it😒☹️ I’m friendly and nice though so customers are not too hard on me (usually)

I'm waitressing while I'm in college, I have so much respect for servers in the industry that have been doing it their whole lives as a full time career but damn, "fake it until you make it" makes sense, but if you always have to take all the negativity from customers and your superiors in your work enviorment even when they really are at fault, it takes a toll on your mental health, wouldn't you think? No job is worth that much stress and anxiety.
@BazamO5 жыл бұрын
Step 1: Find another job. The amount of crap given to you by everyone as a waiter is torture, you have the manager just staring at you then the chef's get angry over every tiny little thing and then the customer too. At least the chef's, managers and the customers are respected but not the waiting staff.

I've worked at some of the most popular restaurants and caffés in my country and honestly sometimes it's true but most of the jobs i had on those places were pretty chill my only problem is i stress MYSELF out which sometimes helps me be a better waiter and sometimes just fucks my head up

Been serving for 3 1/2 years and just now starting to feel confident and steadily have been able to take more tables and get more money. It can take a while to get good at. These tips are solid, you give good advice here, wish I had them earlier. They apply to any restraunt. Asking for help and knowing when was huge for me, then paying it back when you're slow later.

Thank you so much for this. I work at a small burger place but there is only one server in the front each shift. We get SWAMPED during dinner rushes and lunch rushes. We also have to pack all the delivery orders like Uber, grub hub, etc. I always have slight anxiety before going into work and I have been working there for a bit now. I really appreciate your video. I just need to practice on breathing and relaxing.

GREAT video right here. Took me a long time and a LOT of stress the hard way to figure out to just _breeeaathe_ and be in the moment, start doing one thing at a time and the checklist will get done. Also, GREAT point about not hanging out too much at work. You should SEE some of the people I work with...two of these dudes are GLUED to their phones watching KZbin videos while they get backed up washing dishes and screw over the whole restaurant, including me. Truly an _infuriating_ experience especially when it's busy or when we're down a worker or both. Great advice 👍

Fake it to make it doesn't really apply that much anymore when it comes to serving. I have been serving for some time now, and customers want/demand honesty. During the college years, yes, this gave me great tips, but NOW, nope!! Today customers tip you on not just the service, but if you are displaying HONEST behavior thru your steps of service. Keep up the great tips for us servers........ honestly.

I love serving and I don't mind the stress of the customers - what I HAVE an issue with and a hard time coping with is the other staff - ie. Bartender/Chef who have attitudes and give you a hard time with orders. What the hell is up with that?

Yoooo, I have this issue at my workplace too! I work as a busser currently (gonna be serving soon, but) I don't mind when things get really busy, it's just the people I work with always make me do everything because they're unreliable. On top of that, a lot of the bussers are rude about cleaning the silverware (especially on time), cleaning the tables on time, cleaning the pots and pans on time, and taking breaks when we really need them...it's SUPER annoying and honestly one of the only reasons I want to quit sometimes.

How should I talk to managers about "taking a breath?" I work in a high volume, very demanding crowd. Think "night club"
@IamPowerSurgeOfficial4 жыл бұрын
You may have to discreetly find a way to take a few seconds for yourself. I know when you’re in a rush every second counts but if you forget something it can cost you time. Therefore I think it’s well worth it if you’re stressed to take a few seconds to collect yourself that way you don’t make mistakes... If you talk to your managers about it I wouldn’t tell them that you need to go outside but find a safe spot in your work where you can take a deep breath. I used to take my breath’s And collect myself before putting in orders... That way I know they are put in properly and I didn’t rush it
