In this video, I give a quick opening lesson to Kimmy Liu of / kimmyliu18 . I share some tricky opening preparation for the white side of the Grand Prix Attack vs Sicilian where black opts for an early e6 and d5.

I always play the Smith-Morra gambit against the Sicilian to dodge theory. I'm about 1600-1700 and started to have mixed results with it. Is the grand prix worth a shot for an aggressive player trying to climb?
@CheapShotFail
@CheapShotFail 3 жыл бұрын
I still get reliable wins with the morra at expert level OTB but it requires an immense amount of prep, and a few opponents either decline the gambit or go straight for the drawish lines. All of the losses I had came solely from me not remembering theory or misplaying a winning position. That said, if you haven't put a lot of time into learning it I would recommend switching to something more solid. It's certainly still a good option to mix things up against opponents you play a lot, and can get you some fast wins, but I don't think you can rely on it as your sole response to 1...c5. In fact, even Esserman (Mayhem in the Morra author) plays other variations as white now. Honestly I'm kind of curious about the grand prix now especially after Rosen said it got him from 2000 to 2200. I'll be looking into this variation, but certainly the open sicilian, king's indian, or a number of other variations seem good as well.

Keeping the tension is one of the hardest things for lower-rated players to grasp: they almost always release the tension. Masters are much better at keeping the tension. (As an Expert I struggle with keeping the tension myself: this is one reason I'm not yet a master.)

PLS Eric I really enjoy all you videos. It helped me improve so much that I started teaching my chess mate . PLS am a grand prix player but since I got to 2200+ I have been having a big problem winning my games with grand prix. PLS Eric I would be very grateful if you could make a long video about grand prix basically on black early centre attack and Bb5 and some of the basic theory I need. PLS Eric
