Today we are joined by the wonderful Jeff McCollough, Pastor and KZbinr (Hello Saints). Jeff talks about how he slowly became interested in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and eventually decided to dedicate a KZbin channel to exploring the LDS Church as a non-member of the LDS Church (otherwise known as the Mormon Church).
Pastor Jeffs says that on his channel, Hello Saints, his purpose is to explore the church but that as an active member of his faith and in his beliefs, he will definitely raise concerns about the LDS Church as he has them but he thinks that the most productive way to speak about concerns is to engage with other people in a productive manner.
We just love Jeff so much and are so glad he could join us on Saints Unscripted!!

When the Missionaries first visited me, I thought what a unique group! I had no intention in joining any religion. I had grown up Lutheran with Catholic, Baptist family members. I was curious about the LDS beliefs and not afraid to ask questions. At one point, the Missioaries challenged me to be Baptized on my upcoming birthday. I was so shocked that I laughed at them. I told them there was no way I was planning to join their Church, I was just curious. Months later and a personal miracle that revealed to me that the Church was truly God’s Church, I was baptized, on my birthday!

May I ask what made you believe that it is the true church? I grew up a Mormon in Utah. I thank God I believe I am now saved by grace & grace alone. God opened my eyes to the truth of who He is and what Jesus did for me. There is nothing I can do to make it heaven except have faith in Him! Your testimony troubles me. Please seek the truth about Jesus. Read your Bible. Show me where the Bible is wrong. The Bible completes the story of Christ. I will pray that God will open your eyes to His truth, and not the made up truth of Joseph Smith, who was indeed a false prophet based on the story of his life.

I live in Texas. As a member of the LDS faith, I have heard nothing but hate and bigotry from Evangelicals. In fact, I had an evangelical client that nearly ruined my career when she found out I was LDS when I didn't order alcohol during a client dinner. I have seen his channel and avoided watching it because I was very suspect about it. I assumed it was just another evangelical speaking lies and hate against me, and my people. I am now curious to watch his channel. I have no issue having respectful disagreement with someone, but I am just tired of all the hate. The most important thing for ALL is to realize we Latter Day Saints are not Christian...let me explain... We ARE Christian, in the sense that we believe in and follow our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ - but we are NOT Christian as far as the mainstream definition goes...we do not come from the Catholic Church or out of Protestantism. We are a RESTORATION of an ancient, Abrahamic faith. THIS is what mainstream Christians do not understand. We are not a new Church, we are THE Restored Church of Jesus Christ. Our beliefs are ancient. Our God is the God of Abraham. I would say we more fully embrace the Bible than Christians who only HAVE the Bible. The Bible is saturated with the true gospel, which involves a God who makes covenants with His people. We are covenant Israel, the House of Israel. In the end, there will be no Jew or Gentile...but SAINTS of the Most High God. "The first shall be last and the last shall be first." The book of Ruth is a type and shadow for our day. Boaz, a Jew (Christ) marries Ruth, a Gentile (the Church/the Bride of Christ), and in this covenantal union, automatically lifts Ruth's mother-in-law and the kindred of Boaz, Naomi (Jews), and all the kindred dead as well. Jesus is coming for His Bride (the Church), and will also be coming for His covenant people, the Jews. We know this, because it's all in the Bible. Jesus will stand on the Mount of Olives (after coming for His Bride) and the mountain will cleave in two, and the Jews will ask about the marks in His hands, and Jesus will say, "These are the wounds with which I was wounded in the House of my friends." And THEN...they will finally realize that they killed their Messiah...that Jesus is, and always was, the MESSIAH!! They will repent and renew their covenants with Him. In the end....all who enter into a covenantal relationship - a marriage - to Jesus Christ...are called SAINTS. So, when other Christians say we are not Christian...it really doesn't bother me. Fact is, we are NOT like the rest of Christianity, and we are not supposed to be. We are set apart. Our role is to gather Israel, to bring the FAMILY back together. Our divine purpose as Latter Day Saints is to be as Ruth, who, through marriage to Boaz (Christ) lifted up Naomi (the Jews). From what I can tell, mainstream Christians are only looking forward to Christ. As Latter Day Saints, we are BOTH looking forward to Christ's Second Coming, but are also reaching BACK, remembering the Jews and our kindred dead, and gathering Israel.

Actually, LDS are restoration of what Martin Luther broke. Do read the book The Truth about Martin Luther and you will see exactly what Luther, un anointed by God, altered. The bible books discarded, rejected priesthood authority, faith alone saves, ordinances are stupid, once saved always saved doctrine. LDS have more in common with Catholics and Orthodox than Protestants because they are the outliers. Jesus had to restore his teachings to one the opposite of educated, arrogant, self appointed Luther- Joseph Smith. This was so faith affirming to me.

TO: @@audrieking7109 “You are not entitled to your opinion. You are entitled to your informed opinion. No one is entitled to be ignorant.” … Einstein . YOU SAID Yes, he is open about that. YOU SAID He says that it's a Protestant's perspective on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, so it's meant to be that comparison you are bringing up. ABEL That's what I said. It is not a conversation. It's his perspective on something that he doesn't by his own admission understand. . YOU SAID I think it's a great channel, and very informative! ABEL Pastor Jeff's research is ever so slightly better than what professional educators, teachers, and professors call ~ a Google scholar. A Google Scholar is someone who believes that easy access to Internet videos and articles on a subject is the same as personal, academic, seasoned mastery of a subject . I have news for you ~ it's not. . YOU SAID And he has been respectful in every video I've seen. YOU SAID The concept of commenting on a religion without being a seasoned master is, in my opinion, juvenile and beyond the reasonable expectation of a serious effort. In other words, the exercise was a failure before it began. It is impossible to be respectful when commenting on something that you are not qualified to speak about. Further, to use the fact that you are a pastor, which lends some credibility to your word, is distasteful. . YOU SAID Saying he disagrees isn't being disrespectful, ABEL Not my point whatsoever was it. Doing this series of videos gave Pastor Jeff an opportunity or an excuse as the case may be to disagree or to make unqualified comparisons, as the case may be. Yes, He used polite manners and language, but that does not mean that his actions and words are not respectful. . YOU SAID just like there are things about mainstream Christianity that we as latter-day saints don't agree with. ABEL Daniel Dennett's Rules: How to compose a successful critical commentary: 1: You should attempt to re-express your target's position so clearly, vividly, and fairly that your target says, "Thanks, I wish I’d thought of putting it that way." 2: You should list any points of agreement (especially if they are not matters of general or widespread agreement). 3: You should mention anything you have learned from your target. Then and only then are you permitted to say so much as a word of rebuttal or criticism. . That's the standard I use. By the above standard, Pastor Jeff fails and he fails miserably ~ although he has an agreeable personality which makes his videos deceptively agreeable. . In the same way, your critical skills, your critical analysis of my little tiny statement projected me saying things that I didn't say and you missed my point altogether, by assuming you knew what I was trying to say. . YOU SAID It's not disrespectful to disagree, ABEL Obviously. I've been known to disagree once in awhile. . YOU SAID but it is disrespectful to be rude bout it ABEL Yes ... being rude is being disrespectful “An Unbreakable Vow?" said Ron, looking stunned. "Nah, he can’t have.... Are you sure?" "Yes I’m sure," said Harry. "Why, what does it mean?" "Well, you can’t break an Unbreakable Vow..." "I’d worked that much out for myself, funnily enough.” ― Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince . YOU SAID or to say that the other is blatantly wrong. ABEL You are either wrong or right. Blatantly has nothing to do with it. although I could be wrong, but I think it could be said that For some people in some circumstances. Telling someone that they are wrong while pointing a finger in their face is not as desirable as someone who tells you the bad news with a smile. Some people can get away such behavior and some cannot. . YOU SAID I have seen none of that with Pastor Jeff ABEL I imagine there are books about what you have not seen in relationship to Pastor Jeff's behavior. Wise up. I've really enjoyed these videos with Pastor Jeff. I grew up as a protest Christian. When I was looking into the church I definitely had some similar thoughts and feeling as Jeff originally did of automatically dismissing any beliefs that were different. But then like Jeff I started to feel curious because there were a lot of similarities to my beliefs, but also a lot of differences. Little by little I started to learn more and all their "weird" beliefs when explained started to not sound so weird. I still wasn't at the point where I believed it to be true but I started to understand why they would believe it and it didn't sound so extreme. Eventually I learned to recognize the holy ghost more and felt it both at my protestant church and at the Church of Jesus Christ. I prayed a lot, I fasted and then felt clearly impressed to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, so I did. Now that all aside my dad was super against the church. He grew up in the Bible belt, very Baptist and even was really against a lot of different protestant churches. So you can imagine how happy he was. He definitely had the attitude that Jeff talked about of "sit down and I'm going to tell you why you're wrong". I felt very attacked and judged by protestants. Both new ones I was meeting and ones I had grown up with. It really saddens me to see how contentious things can get between protestants and latter-day saints when yes we have many different beliefs but our core beliefs on Jesus Christ being our savior are the same. It really makes me not want to be around protestants much because of my experiences. I wish we would unite more on our common beliefs instead of fighting against each other on the different ones. I can only image God looking at all of us disappointed to see believers fighting amongst each other instead of coming together. I think bridging the gap is excellent and a good example to nonbelievers. I also agree that with so many falling away from both our church and Christianity in general that this is a great time. I think we should be able to disagree and be respectful and still remain friends. I also don't think our intention should be to convert the other person. I think it can be really hard for everyone to feel comfortable and respected because a lot of people get offended and get that fight or flight feeling when we feel attacked, like was mentioned. But this video is a great example that it can be done. Anyway long winded comment but this really hits home for me with my experiences.

I love pastor Jeff, but he's not going to give an accurate perspective on how the vast majority of protestants view Mormonism. Pastor Jeff is super nice and tries very hard to truly understand (and often even sympathize) with our perspective when he learns about us (even if he doesn't personally agree). As an openly practicing Mormon whose lived most of my life in the American south I can confidently say that's not how most protestants approach Mormonism. Most protestants are much more interested in talking about how dumb, weird, stupid, and 'unbiblical' Mormonism is. When they do learn about it they often insist that we believe all the stuff in that 'Godmakers' video they love to show (even though the vast majority is not at all what most mainstream LDS believe). To the extent they're interested in learning about us they're only interested in interpreting our beliefs and history in the most uncharitable, mocking way possible so that they can talk about how dumb and ridiculous our religon is and how much smarter and more enlightened they are compared to us. I also don't think this is just a fringe group of protestants I'm talking about. Just check out almost any protestant site anything that mentions Mormonism and this almost always evidently becomes the case I very deeply appreciate pastor Jeff as being a breath of fresh air when it comes to a protestant's take and interest in learning more about Mormonism. However, he is very much the exception to the rule. I wish that was not so, but it is the truth

We had a man from Egypt come inside the Temple and kiss the picture of Jesus Christ in the entrance, he was visiting family and said he desperately needed to stand on Holy ground! What I fail to understand is that 99.5% of all Christian religious groups. Have the same identical basic doctrine that they teach. The difference in details is not worth argument or certainly not anything more than just a discussion. As was said by a recent study of the Book of Mormon who had never joined the church, and for many years had been an Atheist. He said that book belongs and every Christian Church there is, because whether you believe that the story is true or not, there is ample archaeological evidence it is exactly true, the concepts spoken of in it are very clear and very good for the Christian ideal.

When I joined the LDS church all my protestant friends said I joined a cult. Now looking back on what I was taught as an evangelical christian, I'm thinking they were the cult. As a Baptist I was taught that if you followed all the teachings of Christ, read your Bible, prayed and did everything right, you would still burn in Hell forever if you didn't say "Jesus come into my heart". I haven't been able to find a single verse that says you must except Jesus into your heart, but that's what I was taught by our pastors and Billy Grahm. The Bible just says to follow His teachings, strive to keep his commandments, love one another and repent when you have done wrong. We were also taught in my Baptist church that if someone who lived in Africa or Asia hundreds of years ago and never even heard of the Bible or Jesus, and was the most righteous person he or she could be, that they would still burn in Hell forever for not excepting Jesus into their heart. Also, they are always saying to Mormons "If it isn't in the bible, then it isn't true", funny, but nowhere in the Bible does it talk about getting paid money to preach the Gospel, yet I do not know of any Protestant pastors who preach for free. The thing I love about the LDS Church is that we believe anyone who is doing the best he or she can will eventually inherit eternal life!

It was a nickname that aways hurt my feelings & I would always stick up saying I’m a Saint that belongs to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I rejoiced when President Nelson said to use the correct name & a answer to my prayer. When anyone uses that term it’s disrespectful to me if they say it in a mean way or not. I hate saying it myself because it always gave me a bad taste in my mouth. I’m ok with saying Book of Mormon & talk about the prophet Mormon. There’s even other Mormon’s that don’t belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I will not support anyone who uses the term Mormon. That was in the past & should stay there. After reading your sweet response.I had a thought I never thought of before. We don’t need to get into Scripture bashing with others & wave a Book of Mormon around. We just need to share our Testimonies because they are modern day scriptures. Even today I was sharing with my Physical Therapist who isn’t a member of the Church my Testimony. I haven’t mentioned the Book of Mormon to her or the name of the Church. I’ve been sharing some of my neat experiences & she’s been touched. She has told me once that’s powerful & today you must be a spiritual person. It all started about a place I mentioned you drive past to get to a certain spot & she said she heard it was haunted. That’s awsome you work in the Temple & I have a funny store to share. I tell others you must behave in the Temple. There was a Singles activity to do a session in the Temple & I went with my Buddy who I meet in Primary, he was are Stake High Councilman leader. We went on up & sat down. I noticed my seat was squeaking & I’m like no this can’t be happening but the little kid in me was making it squeak on purpose. My Buddy finally caught on what I was doing & he hits me. We start laughing not paying attention to the instructions. We felt the Lord wasn’t pleased with us & we paid attention in a hurry but the little kid in me tried to make that seat squeak again & this time it wouldn’t no matter how hard I tried. I knew then the Lord had that seat fixed because nothing can be out of place in the House of the Lord.

I also appreciate Jeff's respectful approach to attempting to understand LDS beliefs. Unfortunately I did notice that in atleast a couple of his videos he misunderstands a major detail about the Lds Christian faith, and then bases his final argument against the church on that misunderstanding at the end of the video. For example, at the end of one video, he came away thinking Lds didn't believe Jesus is God, when they absolutely do believe Jesus is God, and then based his final argument on that false perception. There absolutely are disagreements between Lds Christians and protestant evangelical Christians. I just wish even well intended dialoguers like Jeff could atleast get the lds beliefs themselves correct first, and correctly identify where the differences actually are, before posting a video that may mislead non lds about what lds believe. But other than that, I think I speak for many of us when I say its refreshing to see more open minded and respectful dialogue finally being demonstrated and being encouraged on an easily accessible platform for many people to learn from. 👏

His openness is rare, especially rare among pastors. Good points you and Sue make, maybe some subconscious bias surfacing. I teach my daughter, just turned 8 but her mom is withholding consent for baptism, that there are God the Father, God the Son and God the Spirit. So yes, absolutely, Jesus is God. So then technically, the latter-day church is polytheistic; however, pragmatically and linguistically, we remain monotheistic since even if the Godhead had 100+ members, Their oneness and unity make whatever number truly the same as One God in effect. Jesus does defer and give all glory to the Father, however; yet Jesus now enjoys an individual fullness of glory; so I guess the oneness and multiplicity of glory run parallel to physical and spiritual unity....

For what purpose debate? If there is a God, the Lord's restored church is the only way. If there isn't a God, the issue is moot. Any religion started by man, credentials from the government, is a Man's church. In the New Testament, Christ restored the church, WITHOUT GOVERNMENT PERMISSION. He gave Apostles, Profit, etc. Other churches, at the time, didn't like that. They Aided and ABED-ED in the Killing of our savior. People who start their on churche, are trying the same old tactics of the bible. LDS claims to be a RESTORATION by AUTHORITY from Christ, Heavenly Father and Melchizedek, who are the ONLY authorized holders of authority that could facilitate a restoration and pass on authority. A college degree doesn't make the religion evolving from that education, the "BINDING WORD OF GOD". What is the purpose of debate? Those with a testimony are IMMOVABLE. Those who are riding the coat tails of someone with a testimony are the only potential victims. I don't feel sorry for all those people who get on youtube and report why they left the LDS church. Heavenly father wants them to be happy. If they are unhappy in the Authorized Church of Heavenly Father with Direct Lineage to the Melchizedek priesthood, the LDS understand. My opinion, If they were truly LDS, they would not describe themselves as Mormon. Mormon abridged the "Book of Mormon". In my observation, anyone using the word "Mormon" as a religion or follower, reeks of weakness, lack of understanding, and a testimony of the Saviors authorized church.

Pastor Jeff is Restoration is in the Bible? give it to me those references in the Bible including the apostasy! then if you know those two words Apostasy & Restoration then the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day-Saints is true church of Jesus Christ from His original church was taken on earth and restored again.

I used to listen to Padtor Jeff, Hello Saint quite regularly. But then I felt that he was covertly planting seeds of doubt in Later-day-saints. I dont mind hearing how our theology differs, i dont mind hearing the doctrinal disagreements with our apostles. But then I had to ask myself WHY was I willing to spend time with a pastor who may be using subtlety to undermine my faith. I find Saints Unscripted and Come Back, much more interesting because often they highlight those who have doubted and have returned even stronger. I love the come back stories I also listened to an ex-evangelical who is calling out Pastor Jeff for building an off ramp for those LDS who are struggling. Pastor Jeff has come to Utah with the intention of building a congregation of exiting LDS. He is very kind and gentle and very persuasive in presenting his perspectives. I think he has been very successful in reeling in those Later day saints who are wobbly in their faith.

Growing up in a family where my Grandparents adopted me,; They had an Analogy, where 2 mules could pull more Weight than 1. So as we approach the Last Days, We can serve Our Lord n Savior Better when we hash our differences and come to a Knowledge on What we agree on, we become stronger, Passive to offset the Works of the Devil. Now th as that's Good. 😮😊😅

People: The differences between The Church of Jeus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and every other religion in the world are not "tiny" as the people-pleasing hosts say.

Thank you for freely admitting that when somebody brings information to your door that they assert is from God, you are violating Biblical scripture by refusing to at least hear them. That is a damnable thing to do for a supposed pastor!

And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. 5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things. I probably need to recollect the details from my mission journal, but if memory serves me right, there was at least one lady, I think evangelical, who invited us in one California summer years ago around 2008, gave us water, and I think we taught a short lesson. She was uncommonly kind for someone espoused to another denomination. I’m still thankful for that kindness, she’s probably a better person than I am, I’m hesitant to invite others into my home for that sort of interaction. Let’s face it, religion is a hot topic, it takes immense maturity to chat about differing beliefs without one side or the other getting their feathers ruffled, and I’m not sure I’m as unrufflable as I ought to be. Thanks for the good example Jeff

They admit the origin of the Book of Mormon, but they never understand that the ability to do that is not possible in the human mind. At least not yet.

I am not impressed by charism but rather by substance. Please, I am trying to find information on Mr. Jeff McCollough. What is your training? Where did you study? What denomination has ordained you? You were asked the question at the start of the video, but there was never an answer.

One of the things I find funny is that some Christians think they will convince me that their faith is more correct than mine by ridiculing my beliefs. Whether you have a religion or not according to my beliefs you are saved by Jesus Christ and exalted according to the life you lead. You don't have to say or do anything for Christ's atonement. So when someone tells me my religion is a cult and I'm going to hell I have to smile and tell them I love them as a child of God. I know we will see each other again after this life. So I don't have to win a debate, just love you all.

God doesn't "become" one person and then another. How ridiculous. He is a perfected Man of Holiness, not some shape-shifter 3-in-1 alien. The Trinitarian version of God is an abomination because the bizarreness of that false doctrine causes many millions of people to not believe in God at all, because believing in such a being is confusing. impossible to make sense of, and suggests that we are not the actual literal sons and daughters of God. Not knowing the true nature of God hinders eternal progression.
