Marie Kondo in her book actually has a whole chapter emphasizing how her decluttering process is supposed to result in people being more careful about the stuff they buy and accumulate going forward, but unfortunately, that part of her message got lost with the popularity of the show and her method. The KonMari method is essentially supposed to be like taking an intense, 6 month course (she emphasizes that you shouldn't drag it out too long), where a big part of the process is supposed to teach you a lot about yourself and your relationship with your things. If you complete it successfully, you will only be left with the things you value and not feel compelled to buy more things. You should only have to KonMari once in your life. It is a bit on the idealistic side (I can't imagine having to do only one declutter my whole life), but I like the concept. I think a lot of people miss the intentions behind the KonMari method other than just decluttering.

For your glass containers, I watched minimal mom and her idea was awesome for them, you store them all with the lid on so you don't have to go looking for it and you limit yourself to only what can fit in the cabinet so you don't start hording containers

I haven't actually watched the video yet, but I wanted to say I'm so glad you're addressing this. I know "decluttering" isn't eco-friendly in and of itself, but for me I caught the decluttering bug before starting my eco-friendly journey (thanks Marie Kondo), and I really found the decluttering step necessary to taking better care of my stuff and getting the longest life out of it as possible. When there's too much stuff, it just doesn't get the same care. Especially my clothes, I am so much more likely to get to a stain or rip quickly rather than just letting it sit forever while I wear the dozens of alternative items I have.

Ooo, I think this is the push I needed to give their hand soap a try! I have stupid sensitive skin and just use an unscented glycerin soap... and it's boring me to deeeath. But whenever I try a different brand, or even type of bar in the same brand, the hives... so sad (even when on quadruple doses of antihistamine for a physical allergy).

We started using Blueland to replace a lot of our cleaning products when they run out and really like it so far. We moved into a new apartment recently and the toilet has a pretty weak flush so there was a lot of grime caked on from whoever lived there before us. I've used a lot of toilet cleaner to try to remove it but actually the only thing that has seemed to work well is scratching the blueland toilet tabs directly onto the grime and letting it sit for a bit. Sort of like your trick with the pan but for the toilet haha.

So excited to see you talking about this topic especially when decluttering seems to be a top trend lately. Hearing you talk about how decluttering sustainably is not as easy as "get this stuff out of my house" but that it requires further steps to find out where you can sell it or donate things to be recycled (like old tech) or just the effort it takes to rehome an item is EXACTLY what I needed to hear so that I know I am not alone when I feel like decluttering takes up a lot more of my energy than just the time it takes to go through things. More people need to be talking about sustainable decluttering and I am so glad you did!! Love your channel and can't wait for the next video!❤

They’re so relaxing to me, but only when they aren’t the really giant influencer ones were the amount of stuff is just completely disastrously overwhelming that it actually makes me sick lol. But I’m so glad that you did one because I found the same philosophy that I keep up with my stuff but make sure that I don’t bring any more in than I get rid of. I love following the one in and one out lol now that I finally got a good balance. It’s gotten to the point now where my parents have asked me to help them the clutter stuff, and thankfully it’s a lot of stuff that can be given to teachers in need.

Best tip for getting stains off of pans: put a very thin layer of water on the bottom and cover with a lot of baking soda to create a paste. Then put the pan on the stove and boil off the water. Once all the water has boiled off the bottom of the pan will have powdery/flaky baking soda all over it. Carefully, while the baking soda is still hot, wipe it out. It takes way less elbow grease because the heat increases the effectiveness of the baking soda to dissolve stains.

I totally agree about decluttering. The constant decluttering that so many KZbinrs do, just to buy more stuff to replace it is not sustainable. After decluttering and switching to a more simple way of living, I think the key is to keep inventory low instead of consuming at the same rate as before. I still have to do small declutters every now and then (especially for kids' stuff that is outgrown) though.

For pans, I use just a Swedish cloth and for those hard/burnt stains I use a Bamboo Pot & Pan Scraper by Bambu. It's on peace with the wild website for those who are in the UK and there is an eco friendly store in Columbia road flower market where they sell them too. I bought mine there only for £2 so defo worth it! I have not had to use anything else, it really scrapes everything off and doesn't scratch the pots because it's bamboo. I would 100% reccomended!!

Public universities (and possibly other places as well) sometimes have a surplus sale website where you can purchase items that the university has 'surplused' (i.e. they aren't using the items anymore). So, I’m in a transition phase were I’m going from plastic to glass containers. So far I haven’t bought any brand new glass containers and have been able to find a few second hand. The only thing is, these second hand containers either don’t have a lid, have been paired with the wrong lid or there is a crack in the lid that wasn’t caught before it got put on the shelf. So technically I went and bought new lids, I got a variety pack of those silicon stretch lids that can fit various shapes and sizes. So I don’t know if this makes me environmentally friendly or not. All I know if that people throw out an entire container if the lid breaks, even if the container itself is completely fine. And then those people just go out and buy a brand new set of containers. Thoughts?

I got the BlueLand kit a while ago and I don't love the dishwasher/ laundry tablets... I just don't think they get the job done. I like the spray bottles and soap dispenser but I replace the soap by watering down liquid soaps that have a better fragrance. Amazing concept but I wasn't happy with BL execution

It makes me sneeze when I use it too. I Just cover my nose with my shirt when starting my dish water. Lol I love how soft it makes my hands.

Completely related/unrelated.....The first ad before your video started was for Pela Lomi. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. Then I was wondering if I could use your Pela case code, but it does not.... All good!

When do you know a channel has effected you? I have created my own buy nothing page on facebook (hmm where did i learn about those). Yesterday i was gifting some bathroom items from my mom and talking to a neighbor about what i had. I told her i have a whole box of razor blades and she said "I try to be more eco friendly". What did i say? "You still can be! I actually have a few handles so you wouldnt have to buy any and it wont get trashed". I then proceeded to send her links to both your channels!

You do you on ceramic coated pots and pans but they're not very well liked by most people who cook a lot. They stain, dpn't clean well, they CAN chip, and they aren't the best with consistent heat or being truly nonstick. I HATE nonstick teflon pots and pans so they're definitely an upgrade (im health too) but I super prefer my cast iron for nonstick purposes and my stainless steel.

Where did you get your mattress from? I’ve been wanting to invest in either an Avocado Green or Birch mattress. Thanks Shelbi!

You can organize the cables in the drawer by putting them in old cardboard toilet paper rolls. That way they don't get tangled!
