I inherited two homes stuffed full of things going back 4 generations. It’s literally been years of curating everything. I’m glad I have so many heirlooms but it’s been a process! I still have hundreds of photos. Hundreds! And I got rid of hundreds. I don’t think any family loved to document itself more than mine. 😂

Cloth material deteriorates. Look at the fundamental makeup of the object too and then decide if keeping it in the closet actually preserves it or if it will simply continue to deteriorate. It depends on the material. Some cloth lasts longer than other.

09.13.2024 I remember when I was keeping all of my son's childhood trophy's , etc & then finally after he was married I asked him 2 come & either go thru it &/or take it ... he ended up getting rid of most of the items. For one, they really meant little/nothing to him now, as a "married w/baby" adult & his wife wasn't a saver/keeper of things. So kinda both thoughts came into play. But the thought that I'd kept/moved all of it from the time he was a young boy til adulthood made me go ... wow. I could have let all of it go a long time ago & he wouldn't have even asked about those items. 😂

Just got rid of my grandma's dining table & chairs I have had for around 40 years. Felt so guilty as no one wanted them and they went to the dump😢 They had memories attached but just don't suit me in this stage of my life

well done, difficult but the right thing to do
