You're absolutely right, we have far too many things in our houses. But I would like a little bit more than just two towels or one duvet cover per person as it gives more flexibility if needed. Sometimes it is not possible to wash at once and it's nice then to have a little bit more of everything (travel, illness etc.). Love your videos! So calming and contemplative ☺

I lived with one sheet set for several years,. although now I have two. But I have more than two towels and washcloths. I have enough for two people to replace them every 2-3 days and then wash them all every week or two.

You don't want to know how many blankets I have. I quilt and crochet and those are my hobbies and my passion. I am happy to give them to people who want or need them....but I just keep making them! I use pillow cases to store my sweaters and woolen clothes after winter instead of buying bins. I'm afraid I make sweaters too. I also save seeds from my flowers in pillow cases and hang them in my garage until the next summer. They dry out nicely and can breathe.

How do you find the balance between decluttering/having the minimal amount and the finite life cycle of a product? For example with towels, they tend to get faded, worn out, stretched (of course, still usable, but somehow not bringing the Marie Kondo type of joy)... also, when guests are coming to stay, I need a few spare, preferably not with stains or holes. I cannot let go of the thought that I keep the bigger amount that I already have, but they would last longer and I don't need to buy new ones if one of them reaches the point I would not use it any more.
@FairylandCottage
@FairylandCottage 5 жыл бұрын
such a good question.... I just do my best... I try and buy good quality to start with so it lasts longer. I give old towels with holes to cat sanctuary's. I keep things that are still useful even if not the prettiest.. it's a fine balancing act really.. You need to know what you need and fine tune accordingly... Some things I have don't bring me joy but I keep for practical situations....

Last Christmas, I made drawstring bags for my gifts. Some material was patterned but the plain stuff, I decorated with a red, fancy stitch on the sewing machine. Nothing fancy, as I am not that kind of sewer. I told people to keep the bag, pass it on or return it to me if they couldn't use it. Sheets and pilliw cases make great toy sacks for the kids and can have a fabric initial or name stuck or sewn o n.

Another nice video, thank you so much for sharing ! I decluttered my linen closet some months ago, but I kept more towels and sheets than you did as I have a small child and husband and I have to wash a lot. Plus, if I keep only a few I will probably need to replace them more often as constant use-wash of the same towels again and again will destroy them quicker. I really love your videos and always try to adjust your advices to our way of living, because having a family and trying to be minimal is sometimes a bit challenging

Well u seem to have only one bedroom n hardly any guests coming. I have four bedrooms n I keep 2-3 sets for each room in that room only .. one one bed n one or two in spare . Two blankets in guest room n 4 towels . For parties or entertainment I keep aside a set of nicer hand towels n face towels . For my kids rooms .. 2-3 sets again . One on bed n one or two in their wardrobe. 2-3 towels for each person . Face towels n hand towels for 3 bathrooms. I have 3 dining table covers for festivals n entertaining. N a small basket of napkins n placemats. I think for my size of home n family n guests ( my side n his side of family n friends around 3-4 times a year ) I don’t have too much hoarding as I purge regularly n buy only n only when I see a need n I register that in my mind and look for good deals . I hardly ever buy without sale. I look for good quality as they last longer n look n feel good too . I never throw old towels .. I cut them into smaller pieces and use as rags for cleaning bathrooms n mess with pets n kids . Save tons of paper towels . Old bedsheets I donate generally. I buy much less often since I started buying expensive ones on sale aa they last very long .
