I have made a few journals; repurposed books into art journals based on MaremiSmallart videos, then I found Treasurebooks and NiktheBooksmith which completely changed my perspective. I’ve made 3 as gifts although I didn’t really personalize the fist one, it was after I saw your video and how you used papers as pages that represented your friends interests that I really inspired me. So thank you ever so much. I really love how you add the bits of personal art in your works, I Zentangle, so I have started incorporating bits of my art work as tags, tucks or pockets. I truly enjoy your videos.

I made a journal for a special friend as a birthday gift. She’s about to retire from her job, move, and start a new phase in her life. I wanted her to have a place to record her thoughts, feelings, and adventures. She loved it! The journal you’ve made here is fabulous-and I just know your friend is going to treasure it! 😍

I've been in the process of working on a couple of junk journals for a while, yet due to some health issues it's been very slow going. Your video is a great encouragement, thank you! Also, I don't know if anyone has ever told you that you could be a professional Narrator, your voice is so soothing! :)

Finally got a chance to watch part 2. It’s all beginning to come together beautifully. You have such a keen eye for colour choices, it’s a joy to watch you work. It’s interesting following your process of deciding where you are going to put your envelopes and pockets at an early stage in the development of the journal. I must try that when I start my new journal because I’m rather too haphazard and just dive in, open a page and decide what I feel like doing which probably doesn’t create a good balance. As usual I come away from watching your video with a new idea or two xxx💕

I love love your style of making JJs. You did prompt me into making one for my middle son stationed far from home in Okinawa and to pull out one I had started for my dear BFF back in the summer. I managed to get the papers whittled down to a reason able number but have been anxiously awaiting this video for some ideas on decorating. In the meantime I have been making pockets and more pockets and they are addictive lol! Quite handy to have to journal with, too. BTW... I got my first "real" sewing machine when I was 10 back in 1970 so for whatever its worth....if I could teach myself how to use it at 10.....you should be just fine!! The ones today are FAR more user friendly and there's always YT to locate videos on the process as well!! Happy Sewing!!

@@joiedefi You are so kind! Okinawa is a Japanese Island not the mainland and he is stationed there in US Marines. I'm in Memphis Tennessee. What kind of machine did you get?? Thank you for yet another beautiful video! So timely for me as I am thinking of making a JJ for my sons girlfriend for Christmas! Yikes! You have given me lots of fun ideas and things to think about! Yes, I am super excited to make this and a bit nervous too. I live alone and he is my only child so I am very aware that my path to him may well be through her. She is quiet and therefore a bit difficult to get to know but I can tell that this is serious so I really want to do my best. Thank you for your ideas! Now for the abut: abut is usually used when two things are right next to each other as in touching each other. I think in this video you could say that these two things lined up with each other. But with your beautiful voice you can just say it any way and we will love it!💕

Oh I know that feeling!! It took me about 3 months to really get a feel for it and I still only use 2 stitch styles. So glad I can catch this vid after "live" is finished! So upbeat and helpful, Joie! And, you always come up with more ideas of interest! I'm making a journal for a friend who has just turned 80! Cover to do next, and then adding a few photos for her that were taken by her granddaughter. It's a surprise! As was her party! I'm working in the JJ that I made for Nov. It has pages from "everything!" Yes! I love to use pages from books and magazines! There were lots of papers to use from when I took a trip with family to the beach last week! I'm making one for December next! Already have papers set out. I buy Christmas books with recipes and crafts in them to tear up and put in my journals. Thanks for the inspiration! Hugs!

Hello Joie! I just love your tutorial videos. You are so great at explaining the process. You make the process look so easy (I wish it was as easy as you make it look!). You asked how are we coming along... Well, last week I started putting together my 4th journal, a gift for my oldest daughter. I selected the pages for the signatures and got them put together. When I began decorating the 5th page of the journal I made a big mistake. I attempted to cover it up and totally ruined the entire page and the one next to it. I got so frustrated I threw the journal in the trash bin. I took it out of the bin just now and will save the ephemera to reuse and start over. Lesson learned. Be careful using a heat gun. Book pages may have a plastic like covering on them can melt and stick all the pages together that get heated. I was using old art book.

Aaah, if you enter the wonderful world of watercolour painting you will have a delightful time. My suggestion is to get a mid priced palette, and allow yourself to just play. I might try a different blend of papers in another one... I'll take this opportunity to say welcome to my channel! Thanks for watching and for dropping a comment...I really appreciate it. Joie 💜🌿

Do house a sealant on the covers of your journals when you use a collage design or do you lease it naked?
@joiedefi4 жыл бұрын
Hi Terri...I just leave them naked. I don't actually own any sealant, and they seem to be fine. 😁❣️

HI! Just found your channel last week. I'm making a baby journal for my niece who is due in July. I've really enjoyed all of your videos, especially the ones on how to make the little envelopes. It's addictive! Do you have any suggestions of specific videos o have made, that might help me even more? Thanks so much!

Hi Joie. Thanks for this inspiration. I am watching your video as I work on my first junk journal for my friend who is celebrating a big O bday. I make cards, folios and mini albums so I am used to cardstock as pages with scrapbook papers as designs. I struggle a bit with using just paper. I am including lined papers from my old notebook, but I am afraid they will not be sturdy enough when I sew the journal.. I have the same feeling for book pages.. what are your thoughts. Thank you 🌷

@@joiedefi I just wanted to share that I finished my 1st JJ and gave it to my friend. Inspired by you, I personalised it by adding book pages with her favourite things- birds, toucan birds, Lego.. drawing a gerbrera flower, dyeing the paper pink because she likes pink.. it is simple without much ephemera (didnt have time to.do them).. it was fun to.do...so next on my list is doing things with book pages and preparing ephemera in advance. Thanks for the inspiration 😊

Tracy, do you mean how did I make the envelopes? There's a video on my channel showing how to make envelopes in a really simple way.... it's in a playlist which is all about making envelopes, pockets and flowers. If you look on my homepage I think you should find it...let me know if I've missed the mark in answering this question, or if you can't find what you're looking for... I'll try to help 😁👍🏻🍄

P.S. sorry for the second comment but I wanted to ask what you might recommend as a good purchase from Arteza while we have your coupon? I have both watercolor and acrylic paints and brushes and papers. Is there something that you especially like that you have purchased from them that is not the things that I already have? Thank you again!💕💕
@joiedefi5 жыл бұрын
I think that watercolour pencils might add something beyond paint. I was sceptical at first but I gave them a go. I am a convert. You can blend the colours, be precise and the range of shades is divine. They're a quick solution too for adding colour. An alternative if you're feeling creative is the real brush pens. Also a lot of fun...and as the name says the blending is great. I suspect the pencils are more economical/long lasting, but sometimes we need to treat ourselves with just what we want. Well, once every now and again. I love second comments....👍🏻🥰🥰🥰

Yes, I have that voice that's says not to cover up something I like and included with intention to be seen. So I add minimally to accent, not cover. Also, putting something nice in then covering it seems a waste. However I do include pages with the purpose of adding a lot to it - such as blank pages or pages with an all over small pattern. Usually the pages tell me what they want, so never a struggle. 😁

I would love to make journals as a gift, but......I am pretty sure nobody in my surrounding understands journaling and especially junkjournaling. Most people hate to print pictures and dont understand the idea of journaling. So I make them for myself, which is nice enough :)

Well that's still good Wilma. I know what you mean about people not understanding. I have recently found one or two more friends who get it, and perhaps by sharing what I do and talking about it they are starting to be more interested. Aaah well, we love it, don't we? Xx
