Today's design style video is diving into Grandmillennial Style, or also known as Granny CHIC... this is a style that first entered the design world through GUCCI. From Ad's to clothes it has gone from high fashion, to day to day life, which then translates into a really fun interior design style.
I am going to show you how to get the look and what makes this style so unique!
ENJOY!

Call it what you will, this is actually "The Greatest Generation and Baby Boomer" style of decorating. I'm a "Boomer" and my childhood bedroom was decorated with white French Provencial Furniture with cottage style florals in my draperies and bedding. The generations that came after the "Boomer" got rid of the things they inherited from mom and dad and grandma and grandpa. It ended up at flea markets, thrift stores and some antique stores. Not long ago, some shops were not accepting china, even the expensive sets because they couldn't resell it. However, there are a few still around like myself that loves the old things. I still have my great grandfather's trunk and rocking chair and my grandmother's china and my mom's lace crocheted doilies. I'm happy to see these precious items being appreciated again. The downside to this though, the prices for this new old style are going to go up. Bargains will be few and far between.

I agree... my home is almost a copy of my great grandma's... I inherited much of her furniture anyway. Also at my age (78) I don't want to redecorate anymore. It's me and it's my final iteration and statement. Great Grandma Emma loved me and I have always loved the things she loved. I collect teapots, tin toys, art, birds, lamps (I have way too many) and colorful dishes.

I'm a millennial and what I've observed is the baby boomers are the generation that threw everythingggg away. A lot of people my age in their late 20s and early 30s are in the thrift stores and antique stores, seeking to find a replica of grandma's vintage finds and China that we remember from our childhood. I love antiques. I'm disappointed that so much of my grandparents and my husband's grandparents stuff is long gone. At least it adds to the thrill of the hunt, I guess.

I have always decorated my home this way and didn’t know what the style was called. I have some great old dark furniture pieces from my grandparents that had attached memories which I couldn’t part with. Most of the things i have bought for my home are secondhand are also from that era. It gives me a comfortable, cozy and warm feeling.

I'm close to closing on a house that was built in 1987, but only ever owned by people who were born in the 1930s. And whoever picked out the interior of the home had amazing style. I'm on pins and needles until we close because this is my DREAM HOME. I cannot wait to furnish and decorate this home in the grandmillenial style!

Another great,, informational video. Cheerio cabinet is curio, like a short form of curious. I prefer boho to grand millennial. Unless you have a huge house, I worry it wouldlook too cluttered. Grandma stayed home and had time to polish furniture and iron doilies, and dust knickknacks. Modern women, not so much. But I do have a teacup collection. Doilies look great framed as artwork. Love how an amphohorus plate wall updates the look. You are a natural at this. Very enjoyable to watch, I look forward to seeing more 😀. TFS.

One of the biggest factors that makes grand millennial fresh and new, not just a duplicate of grandma's house, is COLOR. Bright, beautiful color on case goods, upholstery and walls that grandma would not have chosen. We're talking high gloss hot pink nightstands, or a kelly green buffet, or a turquoise desk. Grand millennial is not neutrals or muted.

I’ve always preferred more of the “old school” traditional decor, but it’s generally frowned upon. Now that my hubby and I have a 1929 Georgian, I just don’t care. It’s going to be traditional and that’s that.

Hey there! I’m Kanchan, and I was born in India, but I came to the United States as an infant. Despite my looks, I have always struggled to be accepted as an American. I have grandparents and great grandparents who have lived in India, but I believe that I have followed a grandmillenial path to the decor of my home! I definitely believe that I have been trying to find the perfect look that includes the (thrifted) grandma’s items in my house. I seem to be missing the heirlooms and really didn’t realize that I was looking for something that would fit in if I had a western grandmother who left me her best stuff! So that’s a big deal for me to realize, and although I have watched many videos about the style, your comments seem to have made me aware again of trying to legitimize my style and show that I can achieve a true American style. I think the British have their cottage style, but we are trying to develop a lived in and loved design style of our own. Do you think that grandmillenial style is more American? I do, I know there’s an African American woman who loves Chinoiserie like I do and I think I should ask her about that too! I also have seen a Latina woman who loves the thrifted look. I just wonder if this is not quintessentially an American phenomenon!

You are insulting to grandma’s. Rolling your eyes and such. You sure did enjoy yours and found it comforting. Someday you’ll be there and hopefully you won’t get the rolling of the eyes over your taste or opinions. It’s a shame that the older generation is dismissed and considered not quite right. I think you should speak to a grandma about respect for your elders. I live the style but found your attitude in places hard to watch. I’m only 58 but reflect on my grandmother’s nurturing style and attitude. I embrace it rather than look down my nose at it. Clean up your comments and spoiled attitude and your content will be informative and enjoyable.
