How do you make your icing black? Is it all black coloring, or do you add cocoa powder to start it off? I've been trying to find a cocoa royal icing recipe, but they all say they are temperamental, and this is my first time making royal icing, so I want it to be easy.

Sweetopia thank you! I am making my penguins now and am still stirring getting grey. should I keep adding? I'm using Color Right colors. I'm worried they will taste gross or I'll ruin the integrity of the icing.

benandsophiesmom T I've never used that brand but yes, if it's gel coloring continue to add more and more until you get black

benandsophiesmom T p.s. yes black tastes a bit bitter so I rarely color the whole cookie black. The amount on the penguin is okay
