Wait so are you growing out your sides and doing a low taper? If so, I started growing out my sides in 2021 and one thing that helped was cornrowing the sides. If you find a good braider like mine, you can do designs on them like zigzag and criss-cross. You should also take an additional bit of the longer hair so that it stays put
