M dried and pulverized tomatoes were a great seasoning/add in for soups and casseroles etc. I don’t know of a perfect method for pulverizing. My blender and food processor will do it, but they don’t like it.

yes I dehydrated too but made the mistake of putting the tomatoes in the oven after many hours in the dehydrator. put them in for too long....out came all the work I had done ...burnt. ((sigh)) what a waste but good lesson learned. Next batch will be different.

Trick, cut the top and bottom of the can, push one end through to the other end no need to scrape the sides the lid does it. My son taught me that trick and I have no idea where he got it from. I go through probably 4 to 6 cases of tomato paste a year. I use it in a lot of different things.

Hi I’ve just found you and have binged on your videos, thanks so much. You’ve opened up a whole new way of conserving my produce. I used to work in a kitchenware store and your tips regarding the fail/not fail were spot on whilst using the Vitamix “wet” jug. That jug is designed to drag product down to the blades and chop, if you have a “dry” jug the blades throw the product up and reduce the propensity for heat build up. I loved that your video went straight into a fix and no waste and all your recommendations for working with what you have at hand are outstanding and I am loving that. Nothing wasted.

I have also taken a sheet of press n seal and put Tbsp. drops onto it spaced out. Then put another press n seal on top. Flattened them with the bottom of small canning jar. Press the area around each circle to seal in the circle and lay flat in the freezer. And when frozen I cut the circles out leaving an edge and stack them in a canning jar and put in the freezer. Then I just grab them out as I need them.

This is great. I bought a #10 can of tomato paste at Costco and rarely can get over there. Then I realized I would not be able to finish it before it would go bad even in the fridge. But now I see I can dehydrate and store it much longer -- YAY! The can I bought was 4.99 at Costco and was 111 oz. (And be sure to keep those big metal cans. The ones that have metal on top and bottom but are cardboard on the sides can be useful too, but in different ways -- and definitely NOT as rocket stoves.)

If you have a sealer, you can get a lid to seal the top and reclose it each time you take some out. I am widowed and alone and spoilage is an issue for me - so I bought smaller 4 oz jars and use the sealer for larger jars. My German Shepherd service dog loves many dried foods, squashes, sweet potatoes, and many others. So, I am not going to feed her a whole jar at once. So, I reseal them between use.

I loved this video and would really like to see more like it. I wish I had seen it last week after I had roasted a pan of tomatoes, onions, and garlic. Then used an immersion blender and dried the 'goop' in my dehydrator. I also did what another person commented on and dried the skins and tomato leftovers. I started the conditioning process and just today noticed that the contents of the separate jars was starting to clump. I fear it's been too long since I originally jarred them and feel that I need to toss them now. It's disheartening, but I've dehydrated lots of stuff from my garden this year and will continue to dehydrate. I also bought one of the books you recommended and I'm looking forward to learning more. Sorry this is so long. I truly appreciate your help in learning the safe way to do this. Thanks!
@ThePurposefulPantry3 жыл бұрын
What is clumping - your dried product or the powder? If it's the dried product and it's been less than a week or so - throw it back into your machine! That's what the conditioning process is for - it gives you time to recover. We all do have projects that don't work well, though, and stuff happens. So don't beat yourself up about it! Glad you're continuing on! I hope the book helps a lot!
