I was on the depo shot last year and went from 100 lbs to 130 lbs (WHICH I LOVED SO MUCH). I had a big butt, small stomach, and slightly bigger boobs. I was slim thick and used to turn heads..lol...As soon as I got off the shot I lost all of the weight. I just got back on the shot last week and hope to gain my weight back. Depo is a good choice for skinny girls who want to gain weight. I had no side effects or spotting...Only reason I stopped is because I lost health insurance..I just found out that DHEC does it for free!

No, I didn't lose any hair at all. I take a multivitamin because the doctor told me its good to be on one while you're on depo....I think it all depends on who you are and how good you take care of your body. Drink water and take your vitamins and your hair should be fine!

Depo has done the same thing to me... major water retention and weight gain. And that was after I got off the shot. When I was on it I lost weight but as soon as I got off of it I feel disgusting... working out doesn't help and it's so depressing ... Started depo about 10 mo ago and I’ve gained 40 lbs. I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been and I cannot seem to lose ANY weight. Almost 200 lbs and started at 160 lbs (and I hated my body then and was trying to lose weight so). Since i started my period, it was super heavy. When I was 15, it started getting bad. Every month, i was home sick because I felt so nauseous. Soon, I was home, throwing up, every month, for days on end. It got to the point where I was nearly taken to the emergency room because I was so sick. Even the pill didn't help. So, we started the depo shot. At first, I was spotting 24/7, but the cramping and nausea was gone. Now, I've been period free for 3 years. However, I gained a lot of weight. I weighed 100 pounds when I started, and now I'm nearly 150, I've gained no height. I have stretch marks and cellulite galore, the prior being bright, bright red. Most of the weight went to my butt and thighs, but I ended up with a pot belly. I legitimately had a teacher ask me if I was pregnant. In 10th grade. Not normal for nerdy white girls. I got the belly over the summer, so understandable. She was also the best teacher of all time, so yeah. Luckily the weight is now stable. I miss when I was proud for making it to a hundred pounds (I had spent years underweight, and 100 is the appropriate weight for my height, 5'2") but I seriously don't miss the periods. It was THE WORST. I didn't even know my bleeding was very heavy and I was unusually uncomfortable. (I spent all of middle school bleeding through pants like I didn't have a pad on, even with the thickest ones i had. Everyone thought I didn't wear them, when I'd get frustrated and wear two to keep the blood in. We had uniforms, so that was worse) As far as hormones go, I'm bipolar anyways. I'm on so many mood stabilizers that i don't see a difference.

I was on Depo Provera from 2007-2011 and gained over 100 pounds while on Depo. I finally have had monthly cycles every month except Dec '17 and Nov '18 since Oct 26th 2017 after starting Keto Oct 24th 2017. I also broke my leg in Oct of 2013, 2 years after Depo. I went through planned parenthood and they didn't give me information about taking calcium and vitamin D supplements, I learned all that after stopping Depo Provera. My left hip always hurt while on Depo and that's the same side as the leg I broke, but since I've been doing Keto I haven't had any pain in my bones/hips. My dad made me get on it because he saw it was an every 3 month shot but that was as far as his research went. Looking back I can't believe PP didn't give me the information about taking calcium and vitamin D supplements. I don't recommend Depo Provera to anyone personally.

I'm also 5'0 tall. I was 150 before Depo Provera and gained 40 pounds in just the first year and steadily went up to 272. I've finally lost 40 pounds (since doing Keto) which has been the only thing to help me lose weight since being on Depo Provera. I also have PCOS and Estrogen Dominance and Insulin Resistance which I never had issues until the shot nor broken a bone prior to Depo Provera. My mom had endometriosis so I was always checked out for issues. I'm the only person in my family who's had PCOS and Estrogen Dominance and Insulin Resistance.

That’s true. You don’t have to gain weight. I gained like 15 but I didn’t know bc I was so used to eating whatever tf I wanted to. Not realizing the shot slows your metabolism. All these girls that are gaining ALOT of weight are the ones who didn’t eat right or exercise and want to blame it on the shot. I was on it for 5 1/2 years and had no problems. Of course everybody is different though. But I begged my mom not to make me get it bc I read so many reviews but none of it was true for me. It won’t hurt you to try it.

@@payton8920 I was about your size when I got on it. Just watch what you eat a little more. Any birth control will cause cravings, fatigue, and slow down your metabolism. That why a lot of people gain. Plus your metabolism slows down the older you get anyway and you can’t do much about that. As long as you’re mindful of what/how much you’re eating, you’ll be okay 😊

I had 2 rounds of depo and gained 50lbs my primary care doctor recommended i stopped. It took 9 months for me to get my period back and the 3 rd period period lasted 2 weeks and was horrible..went to see a gyn to find out why it was like that and found out that because of the depo im not ovulating anymore at all at 27. If i do want to try to get pregnant i have to take fertility meds and even then its a slim chance of conceiving

First, where are the before and after photos? 😒 second, I've been on it for a little over a month and I've been on my weight loss journey a few weeks before that. I've lost 13 pounds, gained 2 back and now my weight is stuck although I workout every single day and eat clean. My sex drive has disappeared. I've also been bleeding heavily for 6 days so far which NEVER happened to me before I started birth control. It's showing no signs of stopping and I'm at my fucking breaking point. I regret getting this shit and i can hardly wait until these 3 months are over and it's out of my system.

I stopped using the depo shot about a month or two ago. I regret it now so much! I am currently at the same weight as I was when I was caring my baby at full term. I instantly lost weight after I gave birth; roughly 10 pounds without exercise. It just shed right off. Then I was recommended by my OB to go on bc and naively chose depo cause it seemed more convenient. Completely 💯 regret it. I would not recommend to anyone who struggles with their weight or weight loss.

Kate Mack yes it can, i gained over 40 lbs on this shit and I've had multiple doctors (not the actual doctor who was giving me this and was saying there are no side effects) that say severe weight gain is very common.

Kate Mack it's not only about how you eat but the HORMONES that are involved. Everyone reacts different to hormones after having my baby I lost weight as soon as I got back on the depo my weight went up 30 pounds it's been 6 months and I'm getting off of it because of the weight gain.
