I prayed to god to be the wisest man on earth knowing I was not going to be the wisest. My inner voice said, "Focus on reality." Hardships and obstacles in life are growth opportunities. And this is how I earned my wisdom. With every obstacle I solved life became easier. 😊

Loved the female view points and the discussion. Enjoyed that you two came to different beliefs after leaving the organization but can have discussion without trying to convert or shame each other.

Thank you for this very candid conversation. I enjoyed it so much. 💚 I left Christianity about 7yrs ago while in college and just two years ago I began to practice Buddhism but in a very layperson way. I live in a predominantly Christian country in Africa so there are barely any Buddhists here.

I have a question about the caffeine rule. When I was in elementary school I was best friends with this girl who was Mormon and I was always at their house and I remember her family discussing that it was basically a sin. Which I remember thinking was weird because I was born and raised Christian and my grandfather is a pastor and that man loves his coffee. My friends mom would keep dr. Pepper hidden in her pantry and would talk about how she wasn’t suppose to drink it because it was against the church. But now Utah has like soda/energy drink establishments on every corner. Is it no longer against the church? Or is just certain caffeine beverages that are against the church?

never been a fan of organized religion.... all you need is a relationship with Christ and to accept him as your lord and savior you don't need all the extra drama when being involved with a church.

Who do you think organized the Bible? It wasn't written by "Jesus Christ". So who do you put your faith in, "Jesus" or the people who wrote it?

Consider this. Romans 14:17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. And now this verse,Hebrews 7:18 The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless 19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God. What's "the former regulation here? It's the Law,given to the Jews. And not just the ten commandments. But all the laws concerning what you can and cannot eat or drink. And what is the writer teaching? The keeping of the Law made nothing perfect. Perfect meaning complete,or righteous, before God. And for that purpose, it was "weak and useless". Why? Because in the rest of Hebrews, and what Paul the apostle wrote in Romans and Galatians,we learn that nobody could keep 'the Law (in the Old testament), perfectly. And that's what the Law demanded. So what's "the better hope" that we now have? It's faith in Jesus. It's the sacrifice He made on the cross,His blood, which cleanses us from all sin. Jesus fulfilled the Law on our behalf. Nobody else could. It's now faith in His work, and not our own works, which is the better hope. That's the only way we can draw close to God. Jesus taught "I am the way (the ONLY way), the truth (the only truth) ,and the Life (the only Life),and nobody comes to the father except through me. It's faith in Jesus, which leads you to salvation. And salvation is having a relationship with God in which you discover and live the life that God has intended. It's faith period. Not faith, but you also have to do, or not do, all these other things,to please God. Any church or bible teacher that teaches otherwise,is NOT teaching the word of God accurately. Now go back to the first verse. ".The kingdom of God is not eating or drinking"... Do you want to live in God's kingdom? What's "righteousness"? It's simple. Doing what is right and good in the sight of God. If you're living this way, peace and joy (in the Spirit?),is now part of your life. it's all about love Kat. Love God,with all your heart, mind, and strength, and love you neighbor as yourself. Regarding this, and this IS salvation, you can't do this all on your own. But Jesus taught that if you ask anything in His name, in faith, and according to your faith,it will be done for you. Being a part of church is necessary to grow in faith. So we can pray with others, asking for the things we need and want. And when God answers, and comes though for us, now WE can tell others that Jesus is who He claims to be. But,you can do this on your own as well . And I suggest you start there. It's that simple. Just ask Jesus to show you the truth that you need to know, right now,and see what happens. If you want to read God's word, stick to the bible alone. I recommend the ESV version. And start with the gospel of John. But remember, a relationship with God,and living in His kingdom,is not about works. It's not about laws or regulations. Anything that God wants you to do,or not do,is because of love. All the instructions in the New testament books, are related to love. We don't lie, cheat, steal, gossip or slander, act jealously,etc...because these things aren't loving. The hurt love, they violate love. God is love. Christians are meant to guard love, promote love, and protect love,in everything they do. Mercy, forgiveness, kindness, patience, these things accomplish that.

This is so interesting to hear. I'm a very logical person and I've always thought there was some serious reasonable inconsistencies in LDS. I don't think its fair to apply this to all religions or aspects of spirituality. I have found things that are logically consistent about organized religion. Nevertheless, I think that those feelings of guilt and shame for reasonable actions are a sign of something illogical in that particular religion.

So sad people want to monetize such personal things , decisions , make money off from their children their husbands their family ,and even worse their religious beliefs and and then to leave all religion and that’s a personal choice but why does everyone have to announce it to the world .. its a sad depressing reality that so many people do this and also that most of the comments cheer you on for leaving all religion or any religion. Does that not strike you as evil that most people want you to not believe in anything ? I will say that is the way of the world right now .. I feel like anyone who loves you as their fellow man / woman should tell you that making money off of these very personal things is not something that will be a way for peace or happiness in the Long run sure you will block me for saying this however I wish you the best in finding peace and happiness and I do not believe giving up on all religious things is the way to that or making personal choices public for views .. sad

Dutch atheist here. For context we have 58% not subscribing to any organized religion (partly atheist, partly agnostic, partly what you might describe as nones). Some of the religions proselityze which I think is annoying as well. The LDS church and JWs are examples. One could argue that churches make money from whatever religion they offer as well. Scientology has ads at the Super Bowl each year. In genereal, it's not necessarily a bad thing to change religion or leave it altogether. In the Netherlands we are one of the happiest people on the earth. Also your post wasn't deleted. ;)
