Just gonna throw in my 2 cents y’all. I’ve defended James harden ALOT. I’ve never even been a fan of the teams he was on, but I liked him.. but I can’t defend him anymore y’all. There’s trends and patterns with him. Clippers were 3-1 before acquiring him. They were looking like a top 3 threat in the west with the lakers and nuggets before the trade. Now I can confidently say they have zero shot at a chip. Unless they get depth, or find a way to make it work. Clippers are toast. I understand they gave up depth, but they did it specifically for him. Investment not paying off.

They should really consider moving harden to the second unit. His slow pace halfcourt play style does not mesh with two ball dominant players. He’s better suited changing the pace of the offense coming off the bench. As opposed to Westbrook who pushes the ball.

I feel really bad for Westbrook. Man got himself into two awfully unfitting situations in Houston and then with the Lakers, somehow managed to escape those situations and went to a team where the fit was good and he was playing very well, albeit no one really believed in them bc of injuries, and now this... Poor Russ...

Houston Rockets were by far the best possible fit Russ could ever have. All 3 and D guys, no real center, and one additional ball dominant scoring guard with him to take pressure of him. Westbrook had insane stats in his Rockets season. Lakers were terrible fit yes, clippers were a good fit, at first.
@eduarantes3312

I disagree. I don't think Russ' game could ever work with another player who's as ball dominant as him. But you got a point, his numbers were very good at Houston up to a certain point. Then they got to the playoffs and were just too small to have a chance. I really like Russ' game and that's why I feel frustrated because it looked like he had found himself with the Clippers, but now they're almost surely going down pretty bad. Unless Ty Lue can pull out some sort of miracle.

Clippers had a full training camp to come up with a plan and get a feel of who they can be and want to be. They came out the gate hot, everyone healthy, and Westbrook looking born again. They're at square one now trying to figure out what no team or coach has accomplished: how best to use James Harden. The Western Conference is too stacked to give the Clippers breathing room to re-figure out who they are and what the plan is.

This is the thing that annoyed me the most, they were vibing in training camp. Had a few tough losses to early season but overall thought they competed hard. Annoys me so much
@JimBob-jr5up

There is no plan with Harden, he cant be there and i still have no idea why they did this trade. Adding Harden does nothing because at the end of the day, with or without Harden, they need PG and KL to be healthy to win a title. Harden does not change this, i think the removal of great depth does though. The ONLY way i can see this working out (assuming pg and kl are healthy) is if they take a hard mpg stance with the starters and secondary and give Harden the second unit. Badically, they have to do that 2K, imaginary bench everyone at once for the second unit, thing that we all envision but have never really seen.

LAC before Harden 3W 2L. Not great. I believe when LAC got Westbrook that LAC would not win a title. LAC with an out of shape Harden, no wins. Now LAC will be lucky to make the playoffs. Ballmer is the richest owner in the NBA. LAC could have gotten better players. But PG wanted Westbrook. And the 3 stars wanted Harden because they all grew up in California. Russ and James have big egos. They both want to start. So there are 2 ball dominant guards on the court.

I understand wanting to maximize your window but it feels like the thousand time a GM just throw all the chemestry and dept of his team for a star player, this is getting old. Happy for Philly and extremely happy for Maxey Sad for Russ Dissapointed of James Harden but that has become the usual since he left Houston, it's sad seeing this man prime and how it's going now. It’s so damn frustrating lol, Clippers focused all offseason on improving pace w/ Westbrook, increased cardio, etc. Their whole play style revolved around defense leading to transition points w/ Mann announced as the starter alongside WB, PG Kawhi & Zu. Roles were clearly defined, Norm could focus on scoring off bench, Bones clear cut backup pg w/ consistent minutes. Batum & Roco being lengthy floor spacers who didn’t demand shots - while also being glue guys who would hustle & take the pressure to defend other teams’ best players off of Kawhi & PG. Marcus Morris was no longer getting minutes, an adequate big was on the roster in Plumlee. Team identity was there, fit was relatively seamless. The human element is being forgotten in this trade, PG and Kawhi both publicly supported WB joining the squad, Mann & Bones loved WB & the vibes he brought to the building. Lue came out publicly talking about how WB metaphorically saved the team w/ an increased emphasis on practice and being a vocal leader that the team lacked. Westbrook took a massive pay cut to stay in the city that publicly supported him and promised him a role as the starting PG. Now front office & that over zealous doofus Ballmer effectively destroyed all progress that had been made since all star break of last season. You trade the 2 biggest glue guys on the team for Harden, who doesn’t bring a fast pace, doesn’t bring size, and doesn’t bring defense intensity into the equation. You relegate WB back to his Lakers role despite the financial sacrifice he made & the support he had from the team. Clippers are back to taking the regular season un-seriously as it will take 20-30 games to get SOMEWHAT close to effective team chemistry. Maybe by the end of the year we can get to 60% of what the team w/out Harden could’ve potentially been barring injuries.

James’s entitled demeanor has gotten a pass for years because he was productive (in the regular season) but after forcing his way out of multiple teams and laying an egg in playoff elim games he gets his comeuppance. Russ had his issues with turnovers and efficiency but to me he’s far more sympathetic because at least he works, tries, doesn’t frequent strip clive every chance he gets. Harden’s actually become contemptible to me at this point. Sure I don’t him personally but what kind of rationale justifies him being an arrogant jackass like he is rn? You want to know why Westbrook works well on the Clippers? Because he put his ego aside and does what the team needs from him. When he was on the Lakers, he did what Harden is doing now, refusing to accept the reality that he isn't the #1 or #2 option on the team anymore. Laker Russ literally sat out some games, fully-healthy, when the coach told him that he'll be coming off-the-bench. It's a hard pill to swallow and it was only after Russ accepted his new role that he started doing better on the Lakers and was at-times looking like a 6MOTY candidate. The mistake that Lue and the Clippers are doing is NOT humbling Harden. He still thinks he's the star of the team when he's not. Clippers already have their established stars with Kawhi and PG, Westbrook was humbled and is now all-in on helping the team in any role, now it's Harden's turn to put his ego aside. If he refuses, this Clippers team won't even make the play-in, just like the 2021-22 Lakers.

They lost so much size with this trade, which is an underrated aspect of the trade itself. I also think that the team chemistry will never work out. Russ finally was on a team that embraced him, and now he has to sacrifice more, even though he’s better than James harden right now

james in Houston had a Nba rule working for him that made defenders could not defend him with the stepback 3 pointer. or risk a defensive faul. they changed that Rule and James never bin as good becuase defenders could defend him now without risking a defensive faul.

The Clippers traded away a lot of "glue guys." It shouldn't be a surprise that they are coming unglued. They have no body to do the dirty work.

All the clippers needed this season was Kawhi and PG to be healthy. They already had a big 3 with them and Russ. Harden arriving has disrupted the flow of that team. They didn’t need Harden at all when Russ is already there doing the same thing as Harden would. The clippers were doing fine without Harden

To be honest, any Pick n Roll floor general is the system. CP3, Steve Nash, Rondo, etc. The offense was all them off of that action. So as bad as it sounded coming out of his mouth, I understood what Harden meant, and it wasn’t that Harden was trying to say it in some narcissistic way. That being said, Harden had the best opportunity to be ‘the system’ in Philly. We have to remember though, the main reason Harden left was because of what happened between him and Morey. Everything Harden said was secondary issues that could have been worked out.

Harden's last chance at redemption really was with Philly. Everything was basically a nice fit for him but dude still turned on Daryl, who gave him plenty of chances since Houston.

russ, an on ball player who cant space the floor, could adjust to the role well, turning into a good defender, rebounder, and cutter for the team. if harden, one of the best 3pt shooter in history, couldnt adjust to a simple catch and shoot and at least tries at defense, i dont know if any team would want him anymore
