I knew Kawhi wasn't going to do anything in LA. No one wanted to hear it, though. They were on the hype train. Kawhi won an FMVP in SA when he was a role player. He was the 4th option on offense that year. He never led SA to anything when the team was his. Blame injuries or whatever else. It's just a fact. When he was the best player in SA, Curry and GS were dominating the West. During the years leading up to him leaving, Toronto was consistently the best regular season team in the East. They would have likely made the Finals 2 or 3x at minimum if not for LeBron James. They were dubbed "LeBronto" specifically because they would be the best team in the East multiple years in the regular season, only to face LeBron in the playoffs and be knocked off every single time. They could beat other teams in the (L)East (that's what we called it back then) . But if it was LeBron, they had no answer for him. Coming off the best record in the East and another choke in the playoffs against LeBron. TOR kept mostly the same team and swapped DeRozan for Kawhi. They upgraded, and that very same season LeBron left CLE to play in the West. The one guy they could never get past was no longer an obstacle come playoff time. Toronto (who should've been the favorites to reach the Finals) reached the Finals and got to face GS without KD. Then Klay goes down for a game. Iggy gets slowed down with an injury. Klay & KD come back, and GS looks like they could turn things around. KD goes down for the count and GS almost extends the series without him, only to have Klay go down for the count with 2 minutes left in a 1 point game GS needed to win and looked like they were going to win. Everything lined up for Kawhi that year in Toronto. If he stayed there and begged PG to join him there instead, they could've controlled the East for a while. But he decided to go out West to a franchise known for its choking in the post season regardless of the talent on the roster. The lack of results was easily predictable. Especially since he never stopped being injury prone.
