How to Devein Shell-On Shrimp Tutorial Video

Leave the shell on for flavor, but you still want to take out the "vein", or digestive tract, of the shrimp. Just cut it up the back, open it up. Sometimes you won't see it but it's actually there. It's right there. Take it, pull it backwards and pull it off.
This one had a full meal. This one died hungry!

What is the point of leaving the shells on? The tails I get but when deveining just take off the shell ...so much easier

The shells enhance the flavor of the shrimp. Makes ‘em taste better; especially if you’re doing like a crab shrimp boil.

There is no need to open the back up! Take a tooth pick. Put it through the second joint. Pull up and the vein pops out pull it out!

When we were kids and caught prawns, all we needed to do to keep the tract clean is put the live prawns in a bucket of fresh water and they instantly vomit their stomach contents out. It works perfectly and there is no need to de-vein them. The commercial prawn fishers are probably not set up to clean prawns this way on board.
