Developing a personal style can be one of the most rewarding and exciting elements of learning photography. And to feel that the pictures you are making truly represent you can be very liberating.

Great content in your videos Rupert and fantastic clear and concise presentation; a single theme for each one and under 10 mins - perfect! I've always preferred landscape to street but your style is very compelling in its depiction of the simple beauty of the urban environment. I look forward to more on your channel.

Such great videos - having started taking photography more seriously, I am moving away from technical videos which are everywhere… into a place of deeper understanding of other artists… focussing on what you do with your camera, rather than what it does for you. Great work 👍

Your videos are excellent, your manner and voice makes every subject so interesting in a matter of fact way that hold my attention completely. After such a long time with my hobby I was never aware of having a style but I suppose we all try to emulate a little bit of other photographers we admire, intentionally or not, thanks for sharing.

Very interesting and helpful thanks. Given me food for thought regarding my own photography which tends to wander all over the place.

No need to go to photography school. Just binge watch this channel and you'll be ahead of any student spending thousands on photography courses.

I'm not new to photography, but new to trying my hand at street photography. I just got your book today from Amazon. I look forward to reading it this weekend. Thanks for your videos, new subscriber. :)

thank you for your videos. I value what you say because your photos are great. You are also one of the few people who answer what you say in your video title. Thank you also for explaining what is going on in your head, your own criteria. It might be interesting to see a video where you explain how you select your photos that you show? Anyways, thanks a lot for your (hard) work, time and the results!

Great videos. Length is just perfect and focusing on one topic adds value to the content. I like the link between the art of Photography and the artist way of looking at the world. I enjoy much your insights.

Excellent video. Coincidentally about 3 weeks ago I realized that after a year of weekly shooting and careful introspection on Street Photography, I had found my style. I still shoot outside my style as I like to explore and grow. But when I head out for a photo walk I know exactly what I'm looking for.

You talked about developing a style, then demonstrate it was there all the time. I still shoot similarly to how I did thirty years ago, but my subject matter now crosses several genres. Whatever my subject matter, the result is most commonly contrasty black and white.

My problem is that I shoot portraits, streetphotography and landscape. I'd love to just do one but I just can't. All three genres generate money though even without instagram 😊. I print and sell prints with the cheapest prints starting at 800usd. I get bored just shooting one style. So I probably got 4 styles within each style.

Another great video. I am almost there with a personal style, but I just wanted to ask. When I go out do I only take pictures in my style?

I found photographing people just didn’t give me what I was looking for. Then I found Todd Hido and connected with his style. I do go out with an iPhone as my latest project. I find this great for one of my projects with is photographing just the lower parts of people ( eg with reflections in puddles etc). No one notices your actually taking photos with a phone. Abstracts of city life can be interesting too. Just search on KZbin for street photography and there will be plenty of photographer profiles to give you some ideas.
