remove the battery unplug the reverse button and rip it out of the machine run hot wire to push button straight to the solenoid while your at it bend the metal plate back that holds the reverse switch to gain full speed reverse. seat switch tie red on yellow wire to green wire. PS: Up yours to all the lawyers and insurance companies who forced this crap on the general public. These are not safety features! These devices should be options not mandatory equipment!!!

My 2016 X584 was a no crank and no start and was weather related. My switch also tested good but after replacing the PTO switch I haven't had any problems. Before the PTO was switch was replaced I did replace the relay and the ignition switch because it was so intermittent. I also cut my switch open and it was worn out only after 8 years but you can double it because I also use it to plow and blow snow.

Hi Josh. I’m viewing your leaf blower video from 2021. I have two Craftsman 46cc leaf blowers, identical. One has a bad ignition coil. I can swap the good coil between them and they both work. I have tried to order oem parts to no avail. I have tried several off brand coils, none work. One thing I do notice is that each coil I get reads zero ohms from the spade to the fin of the coil. Essentially always grounded out. On the oem coil, the working one, it reads open. Should I be using plastic screws so that the coil metal doesn’t ground out?. This makes no sense. Any suggestions? Thanks , Jack

Great step by step video. I replaced the blade adapter, blade, retainer, bolt, carburetor, air filter, oil change, cleaned gas tank, and new fuel. Lawnmower Troy Built TB110 will not crank over. I did remove the ignition module, and i didn't reinstall it properly. I'm going to install the ignition module your way and I'll repost my outcome. Thanks for the help and video

That trick helped us rule out the ignition coil being faulty, and it was nothing wrong at all with the unit. It was just a reassembly issue! smh! every thing worked great.

lest not forget a valve can get bent and prevent sealing, compression test can also help uncover this when you test and even add a little oil in cylinder and has 0 effect. Pull valve cover and find a valve stuck due to bent stem (or even rod). Also, I agree, butterflies should be open, but, if the air filter is in good clean condition, you want to test in Real World condition to give accurate reading of what the engine is able to pull, through everything.. This means, filter installed . Despite what everyone says, it is important to test with an assembled machine in operational conditions. Just like adjusting a carb when the machine is warmed up to running temps. If you install a brand new unused filter and it says 90 PSI but without it says 110 then your ratio has dropped to working scenario.. the full gist of that PSI is not running in stock configuration. Also, my example is just an example, it should never be 30 psi off... that's a clogged filter. Feel free to disagree and post your engineering degrees. No, I don't have one, my point is with over 50 years of experience, Engineers are idiots.

Thanks Josh, my John Deere E 140 quit during my last cut. I saw gas in the filter and it would crank strong. Thinking I have a ignition problem, I pulled the plugs expecting wet plugs. The plugs were dry, which surprised me. I grounded the plugs and saw no spark. This is a twin with 2 magnetos. I watched your video and I pulled both ground wires off and got a good spark. I put the covers and shrouds back on, and it started right up. I am thinking I have a bad interlock somewhere or a shorted ground wire. For now, I just have to be careful because I can get off the tractor while the blades are engaged. Thanks again. I didn't suspect the magnetos because the odds of both failing at the same time seemed highly unlikely.

Thank you so much for this video. My mower would not turn off and it was because the switch had failed in the off position i.e. wouldn't ground out. My problem now is I have a new switch but how do I know what coloured wire goes to what spade connection? Can you help? Thanks again

I don't think it is clear enough. When you hook up G and M with the switch in the off position you should get a beep, right? Then when you test for A1, do you leave G connected and remove M and put it on A1 for the key in off position for a beep?

I have a CubCadet LT46, bought last season, used this spring, 14 hours on the damn thing. When I drop my blade she cuts out. Everything else is working. Cut in reverse light came on when activated, seat sensor still working. Someone please tell us if the blade drop safety switch (PTO switch) is integral and included in this ignition switch? Does the blade clutch get juice through this switch? The only video I can find only shows the models with the separate PTO switch. Every other video I watched with out the separate PTO switch, including this one, only discusses the reverse function in the ignition switch. I pulled the ignition switch on this model anyway, and inspected it. It looks very clean. I didn't bother going through the meter test, everything else was working. The plug felt pretty tight when pulled. Since everything looked real clean and I didn't have any contact cleaner kicking around, I reinstalled the switch, fired her up, dropped the blade and off we went!! So, I really have no clue what the problem was. I just have to attribute it to a bad or dirty connection in the switch?

The PTO gets power through the wiring harness connection. Probably loose connection. Clean up the wiring unplug each connection and use dielectric grease then replug.

I had to remove the flywheel key and inverted cup to get access to the ignition module to check the air gap: there wasn't one! It was in contact with the flywheel -- so no spark, no start! Maybe the previous owner would have seen this if it weren't so difficult to access. When I've made the adjustment I've been wondering how to torque back the flywheel nut, maybe use blocks to stop the blades turning. But you don't bother, just use an impact driver. Any comment anyone? Thanks.
