How to disassemble Singer Brilliance 6199 - C4 Error Fix

Based on research, one of the most common issues with Singer Brilliance 6199 is the C4 code. If you hear the motor spinning without engaging the hand wheel, the belt must be off the pulley. The only way to fix this is to partially disassemble the machine.
BE CAREFUL not to open it up too much as there is quite a bit of wiring going from the control panel to the base of the machine.
After removing the side cover, remove all screws at the back and the bottom of the machine. Carefully pushing into the back panel at the seam, unhooking it from the front panel.

If you're getting the C4 error, I would suggest to first check the bobbin compartment. See if there any issues with threading, thread obstruction, bobbin case, etc. If all seems okay and the hand wheel is still not responding, the belt might be off so you would need to open up the machine. When the machine is open, double check on the belt and see if it sits on the pulley (hand wheel) properly. Turn the wheel by hand to see if the motor shaft underneath is being turned by the belt. Make adjustments if needed. Last resort, plug in the machine while open and GENTLY press on the pedal and see if there are any issues with the whole assembly. If problem still persists, it's time to call the sewing machine technician. Hope this helps.

Excellent video. It worked wonderfully well. Couldnt have done the job without this video. A small tip: It is important to carefully mark all the screws as they come out because they vary in type and size and you want to put them back in the right place/order.

Most helpful, I just got into a 6660 which is clipped together in a similar way. That was jammed up with thread around one of the pivots which I carefully removed with tweezers and a craft knife. The video gave me the confidence to pop the cover apart.

Ive had my machine for a 1/2 and it came up C4 and was jammed. Phone Wayfair and they told me to destroy machine and they will give me a full refund. Old Mr.s Singer must be turning in his grave and the junk Singer puts out now.

You have to be a beast and I used pry tools. Then the belt was still on and No thread entanglement. Used my pliers on belt and pulled it hard several times! Finally broke loose. Used can air to blow out our west Texas dirt and oiled it! Now to put it together now it works! Yea me!

Hi Egorshall, i disassembled the first part of my machine, as there seemed to be a thread stuck. There was a tiny brush that fell out as soon as I took the plastic hood off. It had some lint on it. Do you have any idea where it has come from? I have watched your vid hoping to spot it, but no luck. TIA 👍

Good morning. I followed the video and currently have my machine pulled apart. I can see that my wheel is spinning one direction but not the other. The belt seems to be on the pully. Any ideas?

I don't think this machine would be able to handle the thick fabric. Just not designed for this kind of stuff.

Alors oui c’est bien ! Mais aux autres personnes qui ont ce souci “C4” ce n’est pas forcément ça!! Si vous arrivez à descendre et monter l’aiguille avec la mollette prévue à cet effet je pense juste que c’est un souci de fil, enlevez-les, remettez-les bien dans le bon sens !! Et si ça fonctionne pas changez d’aiguille et sinon essayez ça mais en dernière option c’est pas super simple donc si c’est fait pour rien ça serait bête! (toujours lire les commentaires parce que j’ai eu peur au début://)

Based on the manual, the C4 code means that the thread is tangled or a bobbin was interrupted forcibly. If none of those apply to your situation, I would also suggest lubricating all movable metal and plastic parts inside the machine.

I think the hook timing on my machine is off. Whenever the needle goes down to the bobbin, it feels like it gets stuck and doesn't pick up the bottom thread. Not sure how to do this and I'm afraid of opening up the machine like you show in the video.

The back panel has the "loops" and the front panel has the "hooks". By applying pressure to the back panel at the point of contact, you should be able to release the "loops" from the "hooks". Try rewatching it from 1:50 Hope this helps.

It is very, very difficult. It took me about 40 minutes to finally get the parts to loosen up. I pried it open slightly with a tiny screw driver.

Thank you for your response. I did all of the above except leaving it open and pressing down in the foot peddle. I will have to try this tomorrow. Will give update once I have done it.

So I took it apart today and pressed down on the foot peddle and looked inside to see where the problem is. The motor turns the band looks good the only thing that is stuck/locked up is the hand wheel.

Different burns have different smells. Does it smell like burning rubber or does it smell like a metal on metal mechanical burn?

This machine is crap. I've only used it a handful of times and now it's seized up. It's clean, took it apart, motor that turns the belt works, it's just the hand wheel, like it's welded in place. No way, no how to move it. I'm throwing it out.
