How To DIY Dye Grey Hair

I have a confession to make, I dye my own roots because I've been going grey since I was 27 years old (half my life). I don't have the time to go to the salon every two weeks so I smudge my roots with a Redken professional colour and 20 vol cream peroxide. I mix 2parts colour to 1 part peroxide in place of the 50:50 and this softens the effect and allows me a bit of leeway as I'm far from a professional colourist. You can get a similar effect using the brilliant Clairol Nice n Easy Root Retouch Kit. They even have a brilliant root brush, which is essential for getting in at the roots.
Here's what I use www.redken.co....
But you can naughtily buy it on EBay too
The bowl is here www.superdrug.c...
And the brush is here www.superdrug.c...
But the easiest option is this one m.boots.com/h5/...
And it comes in a great range of shades with a brush and bowl.
The YS Park Blow Dry Brush is the 50mm here
www.coolblades....
Choose a colour close to your base/natural colour and leave on for 35/40
Minutes and they will soften the grey without heavy blocks of colour.

I'm happy to hear that known fashionistas also colour their own hair sometimes! :) I dye my own hair with professional products too. The drugstore ones just turn out reddish. There are tons of professional tutorials on the internet to learn about mixing colours. I recommend the ammonia free products, they are brilliant! Doesn't smell, gentle to the hair and scalp and thickens the hair a bit more than the traditional ones.

Well I have to let you know that I have been getting my hair coloured for years and since I saw this video, I have done my own hair for the past two turns. It has turned out the same as it does when I go to the hairdresser. Thanks so much for the information and all the help xx love you

I always cover my greys with Nice n Easy semi permanent - I'm very dark and the "fade" on a semi perm is much nicer than on a permanent. Every six weeks. L'Oréal do a quite good touch up mousse which is good as you can use just a little and it keeps.

And the wireless hairbrush that both you and your sister loved was? .... Love the video. I colour my mums hair every 3 to 4 weeks, but I have been mistakenly pulling it through to the roots. Thank you very much for the video. Very helpful indeed xxx

I got my first grey hairs at 15 and am now 27 with a ton of greys! sad I know. I wanted to know what you would suggest, I have quite a dark base level but have blonde (dyed) hair... would be great to be able to skip the hairdressers occasionally

How do you manage to do this on yourself? Especially with longer hair? I have had my daughter help me with this with good success, but really don't know that I could do it alone.
