Had a 2007 vw rabbit with 1 coil failure. Took it to auto zone who told me which one it was. Bought the part for 30 bucks and watched your video. Ran great ever since. Local mechanic wanted $150 to fix it. Thanks for posting this video!

Thanks for making this video..... My mom has a 2007 vw Jetta exact same motor and all. Mechanic who was working on her car A. Told her it was a 6 cylinder. B. Was charging her 200$ a coil to replace. I fixed her car in 45 minutes and costed her 80$ roughly for the parts. She was looking at almost 1000$ total for all her coils to be replaced. She drove to my house and I put them in. Her car has no issues.

I am using the R8 coils now in my 2006 Jetta 2.5. My car is not modified but it still helped some and that might have been partly because my old ones had 130,000 miles on them. I did not have misfires but these kind of parts do age. I replaced spark plugs not long before installing the coils and that also is part of the reason why I am having good luck with this. One more nice thing about these is that they are cheaper than the coils the car originally came with. I got mine for somewhere around $23 each vs the $33 each for the ones that the dealer would have sold. I am glad I did this considering that it feels good to have paid less and gotten more. To get the right ones make sure they are advertised as an Audi R8 part but they probably use these in other Audi cars and we just note the R8 because it is a well known performance car. It is nice that I did not have to buy some weird brand that I never heard of to get a cheap upgrade.

I find that a bit of silicone grease in the grommets makes the cover a little bit easier to pull off. You don't have to make a mess, just use a tiny bit smeared into each one. The silicone grease can be anything as long as it is just silicone with no petroleum in it that will ruin the grommets.

This looked fairly easy to do! Approx. how much should this cost at a repair shop? I just received a quote for $420 (w/labor) to replace engine coils ($34 each) and 5 spark plugs ($15 each) on my VW Jetta ' 05 2.5 engine.

GelynW If you can't do this yourself, you HAVE to know some guy who can help you do it. This is not worth a shop visit. Plugs are $15 at the most. range between $4-$8 each at the auto store for VW. The hardest part of replacing coils and spark plugs in your VW is getting the fan intake off because it's really tight, and you also need a socket long enough to reach the plugs with the plug socket attachment. All in all it's a fairly easy job, especially after watching these videos. I'm not a car guy at all, but I've changed my plugs, coils, brake pads, rotors, belts, and even the dreaded water pump all in my driveway. Saved a ton of money!

Okay, so what about when the insulation tears out, and sticks onto the plug? I can't run the car now, the coil packs won't go back on right, and #1 cylinder is now misfiring. I heard there is a tool to cut the rubber off the plugs, as I won't be able to put new coil packs on till I can get the plugs out, and I can't get the plugs out because the insulation is stuck to the plug.

Nice and informative video, I had a coilpack fail on my VW rabbit 2.5 with only 36000 MILES on it!! Apparently they fail due to heat but I've being driving this car really carefully and only for the weekends where I drive 75 miles on the highway back and forth. So do you know what might have caused this "HEAT" to prematurely wear off one of my coilpack in a low mileage car? Oh and it just had new spark plugs about 500 miles ago!!!

I have a 07 jetta 2.5 turbo. it's misfiring on 2. I replace all spark plugs and ignition coils but still have problems. I'm no idiot when it comes to an engine, but I've never worked on a vw before. obviously I'm a diy'er and I don't want to just start replacing everything, short of tearing it down to check the head and gaskets, any I'm put or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

we figured it out. one of the coils were bad so we changed all of them but we're still having the same problem. come to find out because the coil went bad it blew a fuse. we changed the fuse and it runs just fine!

My 2009 VW Jetta started shaking this evening while I was stopped at a red light. When the light turned green and I applied the gas the car started shaking and felt like it was about to shut off, when I looked down I noticed that the check engine light was flashing. Its possible but lots of things can cause misfires. You should consider having your vehicle properly diagnosed to ensure that you don't purchase parts you don't need.

I have fault codes for control circuit on all ignition coils. P2301 2313 2310 2307. Should I try putting all new ignition coils? Plugs already replaced at 40k. I'm at 47k now.
