Hi everyone hope you keeping well.
So the time has come to flush the cooling system on my golf gti and to be fair it needed an intense flush due to oil finding its way into it. I did a 5 stage flush using wynn's cooling system flush and that did the trick.

Did the same when i had the mk4 1.8t, But i went all out & replaced temp sensor & housing , water pump , thermostat , cambelt & tensioner, pulley, cam & crank seals , lol flushed the system within an inch of its life 😁 i even took the hoses off the heater matrix & flushed that seperatly after , & did the same with the radiator , before i refilled the system i replaced the coolant reseviour aswell , i didnt need to do all that but seen as i was doing a cambelt service i just felt that ill do the lot , i also replaced the engine mounts & a few other parts while i was at it, i sourced all the parts part over a period of a year , all new stretch bolts & all genuine parts at the lowest prices i could find during that year, i loved spending the whole day “literally”Under my golf , it was well satisfying seeing the result afterwards 😁😊 She purrrrd like new & handling was much improved , the heat & aircon in the car was spot on ! Anyway nuff bout mine lol i like your vid Which was satisfying 👍🏼 By the way i flushed it while the thermostat was out after a few flushes while it was in .

As usual, well done 👍. But, no, I won't drink that clear water 😜😁 Just a question : No problem about putting tap water into the system? I would have used demineralized water instead, to avoid any fraction of limestone being inserted to the circuit. Amazing, how you're thinking now about new mods, wheras few weeks ago, you were thinking about may be throwing it. Happy for you that you found again the taste of the GTI ! Can't wait for the next vids 🙂

Yes you correct mate tap water is not the greatest but to be honest in the north west where I live it’s actually not too limey lol, but having said that my coolant is only mixed with deionised water tho hopefully it should be okay. Yeah it’s crazy to think it looks better then before, glad I kept it. Thanks for watching.

I'm using this as a sort of guide for my 08 mazdaspeed3. I also had an oil cooler failure, at 138k miles. What stings is, this car is spiteful. I just did a spin on oil filter conversion and one big bump is all it took for my oil cooler to crack internally, so of course, back up on Jack stands

Great video, it's very satisfying. I find it easiest to find out what the coolant capacity of whole system is and just put in 30 to 40%, of that value of concentrated coolant after you drain and flush with water a couple of times. For my method it's important to use de ionised water for the last flush. You're good to -20 then fine for England

Did this as a last resort before getting the garage to investigate seemingly slow coolant flow, no heat in cabin heater and radiator not getting hot. Couldn't work out whether it was the pump, the thermostat, a blocked heater core or a blockage elsewhere. First release of the radiator drain and the flow was quite weak and topping up the reservoir afterwards didn't seem to top up the radiator - opening the drain and nothing came out, plus still not heat in cabin. But, after running and revving the car for a while and releasing the drain again when hot, whatever was stuck seemed to have been loosened and the system started to flow. Ended up doing five refills with water (and there was still quite a few particulates coming out) before it started to run clear. Cabin heater still doesn't seem quite as hot as it used to be but it is quite cold out at the moment. Strangely, this also seemed to fix the juddering clutch and sluggish engine feel I'd been experiencing. Not sure if that was to do with an airlock or blockage inhibiting the engine or just that once the coolant system/stat started working properl again the engine stopped runnin in some sort of limp/low temp mode. Anyway, long story short: this is totally worth doing if you have any of the above symptoms (and of course worth doing anyway).

Absolutely the car‘s ECU will do stuff to cool the car if the radiator doesn’t seem to be able to handle it, usually starting by adding MORE fuel (which goes unburnt) to cool exhaust, or less fuel (lower power) to cool engine block. It might also delay timing of spark but depends on car, but anyway both too much and too little fuel feels like limp mode, but won’t throw an engine code/light unless it happens a lot, because if every time a sensor got too hot it threw an engine code manufacturer garages would be overwhelmed on hot days, or long idles, etc, so it only throws a code if it happens for like 5 minutes and it isn’t cooling enough. Usually driving faster moves the coolant quicker and alleviates the problem - until next time!

if you are draining this while its hot it leaves nothing for the heat from the block to transfer to anymore right? Wouldnt doing this over and over cause stress on the head/block and causing possible warping? I feel like i should use the compressor vac tool and warm up a lot of water (5 gallons at a time since water is heavy to around 100 degrees F and then just turn it on to fill while the bottom is open). @@Mk4heavenHDyeah, I don’t have to imagine, my mk4 just blew a head gasket after the 4 way coolant flange off the radiator cracked. I just pulled the head off my car, pulled the head out of another one at the junk yard, put the replacement head in my car, changed all the gaskets, put in all aluminum coolant flanges, new timing belt / water pump kit, changed the oil 4 times and then changed the coolant 4 times. All by myself in a one car garage with very minimal space to work. But good job dude! I was half worried I still had oil in my coolant cause of the caramel color. I see now, thanks to your hard work, that it’s just nasty old coolant.. thanks for your efforts!

@@M0N0T0N0US Wow what a job! I’m glad you’ve sorted it. Mine didn’t blow any head gasket but kept getting brown in colour however since I’ve done the heater core and flushed it once again it’s been okay. I’ve made a video in the heater core replacement. Hope yours behaves now. Keep safe👍🏼

You should never use tap water in a coolant system. Always use distilled water.
@Mk4heavenHD
@Mk4heavenHD Жыл бұрын
Yes I agree hence why when it came to filling up the system I used deionised water and coolant. For flushing out the system 5 times water didn’t hurt anything at all, it would be crazy expensive to flush the system with over 50 litres of distilled water as it all ends up going in the bin anyways.
@digitalunit318
@digitalunit318 Жыл бұрын
@@Mk4heavenHD that’s where you are wrong. Tap water is normally hard water. Which means it contains minerals. Distilled water doesn’t. The reason you don’t add flush to antifreeze or tap water is because the flush interacts with the minerals etc. in the antifreeze and tap water and doesn’t perform as it should.

@@digitalunit318so how would you flush ?
@digitalunit318
@digitalunit318 10 ай бұрын
@@game4alaughman always use distilled water. Regular tap water contains minerals. Distilled water is $1/ gallon. Having to replace head gaskets, radiator, hoses, water pump, thermostat, gaskets, much more expensive. The contaminants in the tap water make the coolant flush product less effective. I flushed my 2017 audi a3 quattro 2.0T roughly 5 times before it came out clear. Probably cost less than $10 in distilled water. Second thing I learned is never use a coolant flush product in a German car. Everything is plastic and ends up with leaky gaskets and doing a water pump on one of these cars is a joke and very expensive. Honestly it's cheaper to just flush it with the actual coolant 50x than causing those issues and how much those cost. If I were to do it again, I would just buy a bunch of G13 coolant and flush it only using that. In the end it is WAYYYY cheaper

Its not too bad at all mate, if you put a hose the pressure will be too high and restrict the crap coming out.

Correct mate, I flushed it with tap water because the next video was all my pipes being changed to silicone anyway and what percentage of normal water would be left in there is minimal. The actual coolant and mixture was with de ionised water and the car is perfect no issues.

i own a 2001 golf gti vr6 , I flushed the system but still see brown water inside , previous owner only put tap water in the coolant overflow the whole time he owned the car with little to no concentrate . The issue i’m having is burping the air out of the coolant system . I squeezed the hoses many times , nothing . I tried that process a few times already with no success , i can only get a quart of water in max , theres air inside . Water starts bubbling & boiling out the coolant reservoir and temp gauge starts to slowly rise ( cap off ) . I was doing all this on my drive way that has a incline on it with the car facing down hill . Im thinking that may have something to do with it the way its facing instead of being lifted high up front . How can i burp the system ?
@Mk4heavenHD
@Mk4heavenHD 2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate the only way I’ve burped the system is by leaving the cap open from a cold start and letting the car run until it warms up slightly. Just make sure you watching the expansion tank because you don’t want the car to get hot to the point of it flowing out, when I see the fluid start rising I shut the cap quickly and it’s done.

@@Mk4heavenHD Thank you !!! I’m still stuck on getting the VR6 golf to accept the distilled water into tue cooling system . I leave the expansion tank cap off the whole time . Also my radiator fans don’t kick on unless i turn on my A/C with the heater on full blast my radiator fans don’t ever kick on , this why my expansion tank of boiling all the water i attempt to put in i believe and so far i’ve been only able to get a gallon maybe half a gallon of distilled water inside with the flush chemical . I ordered a new radiator fan switch though to help with the radiator fans though lol . Any help gives , i cant use tap water because our tap water here in the USA is terrible , tons of calcium in the water and God knows what else lol .
