My wife and I show how we performed a motorcycle front brake fluid flush (bleed your brakes) see why it needs changed every two years! This was our first time and this is how we approached it. Demonstration and instructions included. 2001 Suzuki DR650SE, can be performed on any brand or type of motorcycles you own. All our maintenance is performed on a budget.
Always refer to the service manual if you are unsure as to how to perform the maintenance.
Thanks for watching, see you in the next one :)

Great video guys. Thanks. One good idea is to keep adding fluid and not letting the reservoir ever go empty.Totally eliminates chances of sucking in air.

nice video, probably pumping the fluid from the bottom is best after sucking all old fluid out. and that should also take car of all the air, which tends naturally to go up.

A good thing to do with dirty brake fluid like that it’s just suck it all out with a syringe or any way you can and refill it with clean fluid and then start the bleeding process until clean fluid comes out of the tube.

+Sum4Seb so how do you get the air out and restore the brake been trying for hours
@DeShark88
@DeShark88 7 жыл бұрын
carl rossino Unfortunately the air gets trapped as little bubbles or even dissolves into the brake fluid. The only thing to do is to keep adding fresh fluid through the system and bleeding it out from the nipple until you've completely replaced the air contaminated fluid with fresh fluid. It's a little bit like trying to rinse the soap out of a straw.
@JonSmith-cx7gr
@JonSmith-cx7gr 7 жыл бұрын
DeShark88 I'm always getting soap in my straws. I always felt that rinsing them out is like trying to get the air bubbles out of brake fluid in a brake hose.

Do you do the same on twin front brake discs on a bigger bike ?
@Sum4Seb
@Sum4Seb 9 жыл бұрын
Yes, same principle applies. Only thing that differs is that you want to start draining the caliper furthest away from the reservoir. You can also use whatever you have available (syringe) to suck or absorb the old brake fluid out of the reservoir. That's how I do it on my Suzuki Bandit 1250s with twin calipers on the front. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to answer it the best I can :) *T4W*

After replacing the brake fluid, do not you remove the air?
@Sum4Seb

박성민 yes that is what the bleeding process is for. Removes air and the remaining old fluid from the lines.
@thirteenbanger7861
@thirteenbanger7861 7 жыл бұрын
I thought you put in new fluid while draining old fluid until you see the new fluid start to bleed out then you know you have new fluid throughout the system. Cause now you have new fluid in the reservoir but old fluid in the lines
@Sum4Seb
@Sum4Seb 7 жыл бұрын
Thirteen Banger I like cleaning the reservoir first... then refill it with clean fluid. Once that's done you have to bleed the entire system and make sure the reservoir doesn't get to low so that air doesn't enter. Keep it topped up as you are pumping the fluid through the system. Once clean fluid starts coming out of the bleed screw you are done. Good luck, let me know how it goes.

Neil Hughes Hi, when new fluid starts coming out. I usually open the bleeding screw 7-8 times. Make sure to pump your brake a few times before riding it. You will know instantly if there is air n the system as your lever will be very spongy. Good luck ☺

You didn't use a new diaphragm? You always use a new one when you open the master cylinder
@Sum4Seb
@Sum4Seb 11 ай бұрын
Hi, no I did not. We always do a visual inspection for cracks, wear or abnormal deformation. We had a few DR's in the family now and never replaced one since they were all good. Could you point where it mentions to change the diaphragm every time you open the master cylinder in the service manual? Common sense and logical thinking tells me not to replace a good part...
