I have been trying to do a decent spin for almost 2 years. Too many people telling me different ways to do it Including spotting. I watched all of your spinning videos many times and really tried to forget everyone else's advise and did exactly what you Instructed and OH my gosh, I did it. It came so easy to spin and keep going around. Where you said heel up on the leading foot just explained so much and I got it. Finally made sense.

Worked on these last night at the rink. It was oldies night and the song "Total Eclipse of the Heart" was on. I was spinning around in the middle and instead of singing along to such an AWESOME song I was all "KNEES, KNEES, KNEES, KNEES, KNEES." I've never spun so long or so fast in my LIFE. Thanks Dirty Deb!!

I’m a 29yr old newbie to the skating world, I’m a month into it now and I have to say thank you for all that you do!! Thanks to your videos I have the confidence of someone who has been skating for years! I when I go to the skating rink I get asked how many years I’ve been skating for which makes me chuckle and feel proud of the work I’ve put in. You’re an amazing instructor!!! I can’t wait to see where I am a year from now ❤

I grew up on the old union hardware steal skates, gotem’ every year for Christmas. I could never execute the backward skating. When I get my skates tomorrow, if (WHEN) I can skate backward, I’m going to be a real talented skater. Haven’t skated in many years. Without a doubt I will get better by following the rest of your instructions with practice. Watching your videos infuses encouragement. I’m anxiously awaiting on my skates delivery. You are an amazing person and Teacher. Practice practice practice practice practice practice practice. I love you, Duddy!

Whoo! I practiced spins today without watching this video. I was able to go around once, but I will be practicing using these techniques now. Maybe I can get a double spin in. Most of my practice is done without guidance, I just kind of go for it without knowing what I'm doing, but I do want to get better, so hopefully with your help, I can! Thank you 😬

Hey Dirty! When you’re in that super smooth spin, you’re balancing on the heel of one foot and the toe of another, yes? And you’re sustaining that for the entire time? ((I’m a former ballerina (this is my hubby’s account lol) and I have pirouettes as a reference point.)) Is there any movement during that spin of your feet? Thank you for all you do. You’re amazing, and these videos are helping me get my groove back!

Watching this video with my morning coffee and cackling Dirty, you’re so amazing and I love your extremely helpful (but also fun) videos. I was also wondering if you would have any advice/tips for skaters with fat/chunky thighs on getting that second leg out in front? I would love a video on it if there’s enough advice ☺️
@Dirtydeborahharry2 жыл бұрын
Every single body type needs to adapt in order to execute different skills. Your thighs will go the direction that your knees and hips direct them to. So, do not worry about thighs going in front but more like following around or inward.

You make it look so easy. This is way past my level but maybe in a year or two. I went from skating once a year for the last 15 years to skating about 15 times in the last 2 months. Can you teach what some call the slow stride and some call crazy legs? I'm still learning them but I've been practicing your tomahawks.

Thanks for that great tutorial Dirty Deb, so if you don't spot how do you keep from getting dizzy?? Please help.
@Dirtydeborahharry2 жыл бұрын
Spotting will inhibit the flow of your spin. The more often you practice spinning, the less dizzy you get. It takes a bit of time.
@mmcc19367 ай бұрын
I had gotten into the bad habit of getting a half turn on both my front trucks. To break that habit, I practiced in my basement and imagined a string from my hand to my opposite, following toe to lift it up. Your hand tip Toe Down Toe Up is even more efficient.

Hello Dirty, I'm 55 years old and haven't been on my skates in like 9 years, I'm wanting to get back into skating, I took the speed wheels off my skates and put on the Roller Bones 101a I like these wheels much better but seems like every time I stand up these wheels be ready to roll...right from under me. I'm still so rusty from so long off skates. So hard to get relaxed.
@Dirtydeborahharry2 жыл бұрын
Okay ... if I were you ... I would put the speed wheels back on. The width of those wheels will facilitate you in being more stable, as they have more "rubber on the road". When you get comfortable again and decide you want to be more agile then switch out the wheels.

I miss your energy! I came to one of your classes at that very rink. The blonde chick that was talking about roller derby? That's probably not enough detail :D I still plan to come out for the wednesday skates... in months... I have to have hip surgery! Of all the things making me sad about it is not being able to keep relearning to skate for a while! The doc made a face when I asked when I could skate again and said that will be the very end of recovery :(
