Omg I have to try this. I’m having that brain transition freeze where I’m thinking so hard that I can’t do it fluidly. I think watching this also made me realize I’m not shifting the weight to my other foot and that’s why I keep getting stuck/ falling. Thanks again for a good one!

This helps me understand SO MUCH more for other things too! This might be the *most* helpful off all your videos! Okay that's a lie... they are ALL helpful! You always say this in all your videos but in this one specifically talking about lifting your hip and where you look or where your shoulder points really does it!! Can you please do a video of how to navigate the rink/track going backwards? Like throw some objects out on the rink and show how to skate backwards around them. I can skate backwards in a straight line as long as the rink is empty but once there are people I'm afraid to hit someone. I don't know why my brain is so scared of that but I imagine it has something to do with not being sure of how to weave back and forth backwards.

This is the thing I find the hardest, even though I’m pretty comfortable skating generally. I figured out one of my hips is ‘lazy’ and doesn’t turn out as well as the other which means my wheels aren’t on the ground how they should be. Anyway I will try this method tomorrow and see if it helps :-)

Maybe if you are in the Cincinnati area, Loveland Ohio specifically , please visit us at Castle Skateland! It is an open design, no congestion because there are no entrance or exits off the floor. You can enter and exit anywhere!

I’m SOOOOOO excited that I finally got the courage to go to my local rink, The Rolling Rhino, today! I took all 3 pairs of my new skates with me, and I had your voice in my head guiding me the entire time. LOL. I got to visit with the owners a lot, and they are super nice and helpful! I grew up at that rink in the 80s, and it was cool to see how nice the “new” owners are and that they’re a skating family like the original owners were. I can’t wait to go back again next week. My dream is still to visit FVSC and wear my sassy new Dirty Deborah leggings though. 💜

I took my two boys (8&10) to their first roller disco session yesterday while on school holidays (Rollerworld Derby - UK) they'd never skated before.. within an hour they were standing up and skating without holding the sides. I took my late 80/early 90's Bauer Turbo skates... the guy there said have I seen how much they fetch on Ebay!!! lol Had a good time and will take them again. I'll get them to watch your vids to get them into it more. Keep it up Deb ;) tnx

This is exactly what I need! I typically fall (or baby giraffe) transitioning backward to forward. My friends and I are OBSESSED with your videos. Re-learning how to skate in an adult body is an adventure for which we weren't fully prepared, but the combination of instruction and humor helps to take the edge off. Thank you. Hi Deb. As usual, great explanation and demo on turning/transitions. It's nice that the skating world has somewhere to learn these techniques from. I began skating around 1956 at the age 5 with no guidance. Keep up the great work. I used to skate at Cal Skate in Grand Terrace, California, Roller City in Glendora and Riverside, California, and Holiday Skate Center in Santa Ana/Orange🤠, California. Now in Knoxville, TN, I skate at Skatetown. It feels nice to be on skates. Dan M

I am so glad you posted this video Ms. Deb! I started back skating 9/14/2019 I took my son skating for his birthday and we've been skating ever since. Unfortunately, September of 2020, the day after I learned to turn I broke my leg in 3 places and had some bruised tendons but I think I can do a turn like this bcuz I'm back it and I can T stop. I'll keep you posted! FYI my family and I love your videos! You've taught us a lot!

Thank you Dirty Deborah. This was the FIRST time a transition video made sense. After not skating for 10 years, t-stopping was pretty much the only thing my brain remembered how to do, (and I struggled with transitions then too haha.) Trying this out later 🎉

Awesome video! I had been able to transition counterclockwise but not clockwise. After watching this video while practicing in my living room, I've got it clockwise now too and have also figured out how to keep my momentum going by pushing on the front trucks. Thanks for the complete breakdown of how to transition weight and how to use the feet (keep the big toe up/outside wheels for t-stop). Great stuff. Thanks Dirty - you're the best!!

Divine timing!! I made a mistake this evening in trying to open and close the book...ended up transitioning by lifting the rear truck of my left skate and somehow lifting the front truck if my right skate (i turn clockwise). Anyway, this was awesome because I literally had that happen before viewing this. Ok then, apologies for the essay. Later.

These are great tips! I'm in the mechanical phase of practicing transitions, and I think the attention to the shoulder and weight transfer on the feet could make a big difference. This also probably pointed out why I veer off to the side when do T stops - 'cause my shoulder is too open! Thanks, Dirty.
