In this video, I show you how to do a mini drop swirl / drop swirl ~ cold process soap making tutorial.
Welcome to I Dream in Soap. This video shows you how to make a mini drop swirl soap with a separate different coloured layer at the base. I try to give lots of advice about how to make the soap, including things like how to do the pour, the type of trace you are looking for etc. You don’t need a tall and skinny loaf mold to make this sop, a normal loaf mold will be fine. The difference between how to make a drop swirl and how to make a mini drop swirl is simply how much batter you pour at the same time, play with the technique and see which you like best.
I try to give lots of hints and tips in all of my videos, so hopefully, you can use some of the techniques in this cold process soap making tutorial in your own soap making.
I hope you enjoy the video. I'd love it if you would give me a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel and ring the notification bell. These things all help me to grow my channel. If you have any comments or question please leave them in the comment section below and I will get back to you.
I have also made a video (very detailed, so it's quite long) of how to make a silicone soap mold / mould liner, here's the link if you would like to see it:

Although my cold process soap making tutorials are of a tutorial nature, they are intended for people who have a good understanding of making cold process soap. The information given is based on what works for me, however, there are lots of variables associated with cold process soap making and I therefore, take no responsibility for the results achieved when using the techniques or methods explained in these tutorials. Cold process soap involves the necessary use of sodium Hydroxide (lye) which is a very dangerous substance. Before attempting and cold process soap making you should ensure you are fully aware of the lye safety procedures and always wear the correct safety equipment when making soap.

Hi Lisa. I love all your vidéos and soaps. You are amazing. I watch a lot of tutorials to learn and you are the best so far. The best soaps and the best way to explain and show your work. If I was a bit crazy, I would dream about a soap challenge with you. Maybe one day, who knows ! Now I continue to learn and try my best. Also I improve my English knowledge thank you when I can't have french subtitles 😅. Thank you so much to show us your work

Hi Lisa, I like the tall and skinny molds. I like a bar of soap like that so it can be held in the hand. I see so many soapers that make impracticable soap.
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap 4 жыл бұрын
I love the tall and skinny too, they're my favourite, as you can say you can get hold of them and use them. I just made some stone soaps, where I made the molds from real stones and I spent a while picking up all the stones and holding them and I got some that feel fantastic to hold. I know, I don't get the cupcakes and spikey things sticking out of the top of soaps, or my favourite 'peeve' designs that just come off after 1 or 2 washes because they're just on the surface.

If the interior sides of your wood mold is smooth, you can coat them with a thin layer of baby oil before you insert the silicon mold. The silicone mold will stick to the baby oil for the duration of your work plus baby oil preserves the wooden mold. I use this technique on my Etsy molds and I didn't pay £100 pounds for them. Snicker, snicker, snicker.

I have a bottle of Black Plum & Rhubarb which is next on my "to test" list and was wondering if it was going to be a hideous repeat of the Raspberry incident! Thanks to you, I now know I can jump right in and have a go with it without worrying about seizing! Thank you!

Such a beautiful soap. I love the colors you have chosen. It must bring you lots of satisfaction to have made your own mold and the mold clips! Much better than having bought it on Etsy. Hi Aidan, aw that's a shame that you would have liked to see the mould, it wasn't in the video as this was a video about making the soap. If I had included the making of the mould in enough detail to be useful it would have made the video too long. If I make another one I will video it and label that video as mould making rather than soap making to make it clear what it is. Glad you like the rest of the video.

wonderful soap and great video. can i ask how you work out how much fragrance oil you would use in cp soap? i usually use EO at 3%, but i havent tried fragrance oil as yet.
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap 2 жыл бұрын
It will depend on where you're based, what the regulations are and what the IFRA limits are. You need to be careful with essential oils as many are dangerous to use at even 3%, so make sure you are checking the IFRA documents. YOu treat fragrance oils the same, depending on your country's regulations (like in the UK and Europe) the maximum is 3%, but again that's only if that much is allowed by the IFRA limits of the particular fragrance oil

What an excellent question. I'm in the UK so generally work in C, but with soaping most people use F. So you've just pointed out I'm being inconsistent. I think it's because I have my thermometer set for F and my oven only reads in C. So soaping temperature is between 80 and 90 F and CPOP will be 170f (or 75C). Thank you for highlighting that, I'm going to try to be aware of it in future.

@@IDreamInSoap I'm kiwi so I'm used to having no idea what Team Farenheit are doing until I google and it wasn't until the cpop comment I thought... Wait... That sounds like what I do.... Wait no way was that 80c at the start?! My brain! haha

@@tigerlilley I feel your pain, I had to google 75 C as F to answer your question, and as for using inches and oz, well that's just making things harder than they need to be :-)

HI Cheri, I'm not limited to the colours I can buy, in fact we have some amazing suppliers here. But In the UK we have to submit every recipe for cosmetic assessment, once it's certified you can use it to sell, but that means you cannot change a thing, the colours, base oils fragrance oil, everything has to be exactly the same, no change in ratios either. So if I wanted to change one of my colours I would have to get that new recipe cosmetically assessed again (and pay and wait for the assessment report). This is why on my channel you will see some of the 'one off' soaps I make where I say I can't sell them as for a single one-off soap it's too costly to go through the assessment process, so they have to be for family and friends :-(
