1977 when style-vs-style was becoming popular, Benny (full-contact karate/kickboxing champ) was asked if he would take a fight against Muay Thai. He responded, "yeah, I'll fight him." He didn't discover until much later that Muay Thai was a style, not a dude. The names weren't the only thing that was unclear, so were the rules. Benny didn't agree to Muay Thai low-kicks and head-clinches/knees so once he started receiving them, he retaliated by tossing Kiatbandit around with judo hip tosses. The crowd started getting very upset and the few people who were there to support Benny The Jet (including Chuck Norris) started getting fired up as well. Then someone in the crowd (with a death wish apparently) attacked Chuck Norris. Norris hit him back and the crowd broke into a full-on riot. True story.

you make a perfect argument there. A proper offensive or defensive hit not only involves upper body motions, but lower ones as well, the base is key to any move.

Living legend, and great guy, don't agree with some of this but he is tested and 2on most of time. Never throw uppercut above your nose height.....the only Never in fighting is not turning your back, other then that, fighting will always make you do what you never where supposed to, never practice to consciously stop a punch, it stops momentum and takes longer to bring back. Always punch threw.
@thomasmoore37693 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you've had some experience hitting pads or bags when you should learn how to sit down and punch through on your strikes. Doesn't apply in actual fights. Punching through everytime will make vulnerable to counters and you will gas out quickly. You also can open yourself up defensively, especially when you punch through with an uppercut. Perhaps you should listen to the pro, instead of going off gut feelings or what you think is true.
@upsndownbro84973 жыл бұрын
Lemme guess you learnt this through your many years of street fighting?
@upsndownbro84973 жыл бұрын
I can think of many reasons you can turn your back to your opponent in a fight. For example, when someone has mounted you or is on side control and punching up you from above, you can turtle up and turn your back against him to protect yourself and also to hopefully get in a better position.

Two questions from a rookie: 1.) Why do you turn your first at the end and not earlier? What's the purpose/benefit? 2.) Why don't you go above your nose? It's that a torque issue?

Benny has major league calcium deposits in those bricks that he calls hands. The back of his hands drop almost an inch straight down into his wrists. Years and years of banging. Even as an old guy, there's no doubt he could still KO many young bucks if they were stupid enough to engage him.

Benny is what Bruce Lee should have been. Bruce needed just about a half dozen fights to be considered legit. Many questions about Bruce being an elite fighter.
@boogienightsmarkwahlberg60118 жыл бұрын
Yes, and yes. I argue with soooo many Bruceheads and Chuckheads about this. No doubt they were talented, but they cannot now and did not then prove how good they could have been. Benny did and did :). Man the more I watch about this guy the more I am enamored with him.
@clearcombatselfdefenseandf63028 жыл бұрын

I've never seen the first, or lower, knuckle on thumbs protrude the way Benny's do. Does anyone know if that is somehow the result of training, or is it just a genetic thing?
@kalekold6 жыл бұрын
This is the effect of repeatedly punching people in the face for about 40+ years, lol.
@thefightisalwaysfixed88906 жыл бұрын
Genetic.. I have it all my life.. It could be calcification.. Where repeatedly breaking down the honeycomb structure of the bones by punching and rebuilding new harder layers.. But I've never seen it on the side of the thumb. Could be wrong.. Benny is a beast.. That dude probably doing press ups with his fingernails
@gunner35485 жыл бұрын
Start doing pushups on your knuckles on concrete, bricks or stone tiles on all four and you will see the results after a few weeks. Keep doing it for years and you will develop enormous caluses that will protect your knuckles and do serious damage when you punch.
