My Video of the Day. These are a great (and unique) series. There is nobody doing as good of a job as you are doing with these videos. Stick overlays are a MUST, thank you for those. I think that these videos help you as much as they help us, thanks again, and keep them coming!Boss Hat

@6:22 is a great example of why it's important to drop the throttle. Notice that I pause the roll before I complete 180 degrees. This is because I am already aligned with my exit line and I don't want to over-rotate. But I haven't yet finished falling underneath the branch. If I were throttled up here, I would be pulled towards the branch or the tree. But since I am at zero throttle, I can simply hold this attitude and wait to fall past the branch.

There is such a lot of value in seeing the same move again and again and again, and analysed like this. Excellent work.

This is a great series of videos and will help me more then you think, when i do get my quad in the air i will be a pro on my first flight! Thank you .
@jdogb17 жыл бұрын
Good stuff as always. I like that term "throwing" as it applies very much to these quads. They don't have forward thrust or propulsion, so lining up the approach and "throwing" with low or no throttle is required. It is not an easy concept to get down, takes some practice.

Hi Joshua, these videos are brilliant! I was struggling to understand the mechanics of certain tricks and maneuvers. I can't tell you how many times I've watched and rewatched videos of many advanced pilots trying to understand what they are doing on the sticks. Having the sticks and the fpv view is so beneficial. Thank you from an aspiring pilot! @PhoenixFPV

1st time viewer ... excellent. Will have to go back to start with lesson 1. Perfect time as Winter weather has curtailed most flying right now, so if I can internalize some of this, it will make flying my ZMR250 easier come spring. Cheers.

+Bill Somrak Welcome to the channel. Winter is the perfect time for simulator flying. Here in Tennessee, it has only just started getting cold enough to make flying uncomfortable.

Thanks for the video. Every time I fly I find myself doing the same old stuff. Having videos like these to reference makes me realize what I should practicing when I fly. I would like to make a request for a video. Can you make a tutorial on how to do those fast yaw spins while flying forward. Rotor Riot had a recent video showing how to perform that move but it didn't seem as informative as your videos. Thanks again. Keep up the good work!

You will find more flying moves to teach. I've been practicing reverse rotation around an object. Definitely requires someone to keep an eye out who isn't under the FPV hood. I've already done reverse power loops but want to perfect one day, also requires someone watching you. Try them on a simulator if you haven't or if you have a tutorial please point. Thanks for the lessons. I remember my first Split-S. Haha.

@JoshuaBardwell9 жыл бұрын
+Carlsson vom Dach I'm not sure what you mean. You're in forward flight, but you do a flat yaw 360? Can you maybe link to an example on KZbin of somebody doing one? Give me a time-code and a video link.
@JoshuaBardwell9 жыл бұрын
+Carlsson vom Dach I would suggest practicing flat yaw turns per an early video in my series. What he's doing there may not be exactly a flat yaw turn, but it's something like, and that will be a good start for figuring out what else is going on. I'll put this on my list of things to demonstrate.

@ViNsEDj8 жыл бұрын
In order to do this, I need a high uptilt in my FPV camera right? Cause in my angle, if hit roll, it rolls and doesnt change direction...
@JoshuaBardwell8 жыл бұрын
+ViNsEDj no, not at all. In fact this move looks smoother with low uptilt.

Hello, I am new to drones. I wonder if your controller is in mode 2? And is it the case that you have a forward pitch at the neutral position? For quad racing, is it actually more intuitive using mode 2 control? Thanks
@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
Mode 2, yes. I don't understand the rest of the question though.
@jtr1597 жыл бұрын
Wai Cheong HON Forward pitch at "neutral stick" is because of camera uptilt. Some folks fly their quads with mode 1 transmitters but I think most people prefer mode 2. You can learn either one but after you've gotten accustomed to one mode it's a hassle to switch.
@ufopilotFPV7 жыл бұрын
Wai Cheong HON mode 1 or mode 2 they are the same to learn there's no real difference other than throttle stick on the controller. I fly mode 1 in my quads but if I want to try someone else's it's nearly always mode 2 so I learned both it was really easy to switch just think about it before you do it, imagine what your thumbs should do and the change is fairly painless.. now I switch between modes easily.

Joshua Bardwell Hiya josh what's a good minimum throttle set when setting motors to spin when armed for freestyle flying josh
@JoshuaBardwell6 жыл бұрын
If you are using dshot, the default of 4.5% works great for most every setup. If you are using oneshot or multishot, then I would expect the props to start spinning around 1040 and I would use about 1070 for min_throttle.
@wdavie276 жыл бұрын
+Joshua Bardwell thanks very much josh can you give me a link for basic tuning for beginners iv got a little twitch or flutter when hovering and pitching forward so I'm going to have to do my homework on it and learning how to use the blackbox aswel lol

I'm having a problem arming the naze with the taranis but when i switched controllers and the receiver i could arm it but when I yaw it pitched the quad forward and when I pitch forward it yaws do you have any ideas on what might be causing this problem and thanks by the way
@JoshuaBardwell8 жыл бұрын
+Volcy Voltaire you need to correct the channel mapping in the receiver tab. Switch the R and the T.

I can not figure out how u got the quad to turn around toward you with neither adding yaw or flipping the quad upside and roll, which is what I do. unless I understand it I am too afraid to try it.

@JT-jy2sy7 жыл бұрын
Joshua Bardwell 1:13 - 1:14 the quad turning to the left, there is no yaw at all.

Hello, I've got a little problem. Here it is - I've learned split S, and did it well (well for me :-) ) on my kingkong 210 frame. So one day I broke this frame and moved to Emax nighthawk 200. Corrected PIDs a little (as I thought as it should be) so I went to my field and realised that I just can't make clear split S! After throne drop and 180 degrees of roll rotation I'm exiting with pitch, but roll rotation doesn't stops, and I always should correct it to exit the right way, and if I do not correct roll back I'm finishing exit at 90 degrees from my start direction? So as I think it's some PID tuning issue? Where should I look for problem? nothing's changed exept the frame
@rotorixfpv8 жыл бұрын
"throne" mean "throttle")) typing on my phone
@JoshuaBardwell8 жыл бұрын
If you're centering the stick and the copter is not stopping rolling, then you have a tuning issue. Raise P is my first thought.
@rotorixfpv8 жыл бұрын
+Joshua Bardwell could it be I term low on roll axis, so quad doesn't hold the angle on throttle drop?
@JoshuaBardwell8 жыл бұрын
In general, aerodynamic and CG forces are centered along the roll axis, so the roll axis tends not to experience throttle coupling. The exception is if you are rolled over in a turn and cut the throttle. But if you are flying straight and do a snap roll, I wouldn't expect throttle coupling to the roll axis.
@rotorixfpv8 жыл бұрын
okay, I've got you. Will try tomorrow from stock PIDs and try to tune P carefully. Thank you!

Yaw is used when turning. But not when doing the split-s because it's a pure roll move.
