My first try was a disaster, I lost all population to doing bad water changes, I changed water, I found a dead shrimp , I changed water, I found a dead shrimp. "My water might be too dirty, thats why they die!" I change water, shrimps die. When I had 2 shrimps left I realized that maybe it was the temperature when dumping the water that killed them and as it was only 2 of them I stoped doing changes, those 2 lived long lives. Now Im going to start over, so thanks for this guide, I will try to do the water changes this way :)

Oh my I haven’t aged my water for 24 hrs.. I start a very slow trickle straight from the tap then I also use safe, I use the tiny spoon of the set for. 40 liter tank. It’s been working for me, as you say all water is different. The water goes in so slowly the heater keeps the temp within 1-1.5 degrees Fahrenheit. At this pace, I’m sure I could never get away with this method with caradina shrimp, but for now that is for the future . Thank you mate, much appreciated 🙂👍🏻

That was easy! I'm in socal and water is hard. i mix 1 part RO (drinking water) to 2-3 part tap and sometimes calcium add-on plus prime dechlorinator. keeping TDS 230, then drip in, changing about 20% every week. i see small bubbles at the top every time i vacuum out the shrimp/ramshorn poops. i think the bacteria all gets sucked out from vacuuming and causing the water to form the "protein/ammonia" bubbles. i think i'll skip vacuuming part and see if that helps balance the good bacteria in the tank

Everyone keeps saying that shrimp are easy but I don't consider something that dies at the slightest change easy... Our 2nd batch died a few days later again. Turns KH is non existent. I added some crushed coral to the take bits at a time and the PH is starting to stabilize slowly but the KH is still close to non existent. Going to set up a new tank with different factors such as substrates but it's been difficult.

Why should we add an airline to the water bucket during the aging process? I installed a shelf above my studio aquarium for dripping water in and use the mantelpiece in the living room for refilling that tank which makes the refilling process simple.

it helps to de gas the water from the tap faster, it also helps to make the bucket water the same temp as the room because you are pumping that air through the water.

you can but you have to know whats in the tapwater, a basic tds meter would be a good bet for you..if its over say 150 tds dont bother adding minerals, you can also measure the gH and kH, this would give you a better idea of what you need to add.

Thanks so much for sharing. I’ve done my last few changes with the drip method (albeit much slower cause I’m paranoid), and it’s worked out really well; No deaths yet 🤞🏼 That said, what does the 24 hour aeration do exactly? Is it to ensure any chemicals or remineralization doses are good to go? If it’s to oxygenate, wouldn’t doing a drip (not slow stream) prevent you from having to do that since it’s being aerated as it’s entering the water? I drip mine by an air stone and sponge filters so it mixes in well.. in theory anyway. I’m a newb and still figuring things out. 😅

@MarksShrimpTanks
@MarksShrimpTanks 2 ай бұрын
Hey there! Congrats on your new aquascape adventure, it sounds super exciting! 🌿🐠 For your setup, using tap water is totally fine. You don’t need to prepare it in advance for the tank itself, as the water will naturally age and stabilize once it's in your tank. However, when you're ready to add shrimp, it's a good idea to age your water for about 24 hours before introducing them. This helps make the water safer for your shrimp.

You need to add mineralsuitable amount of shrimp minerals to distilled & RO waters, as they’re void of any minerals & impurities causin it to bee too sterile for the shrimp shell forming or any aquatic life - if used without demineralization. Just check the type and amount of remineralizer to use and mix it with the water before adding it to your tank

Marks shrimp tank needs to move to the Midwest like Mark Shelly and I . I’m by Detroit and my tap water comes from the Detroit River which is fed by the Great Lakes. The parameters barely change and I go straight from the tap to the tank with a touch of prime. I mostly have neos but the Taiwan bees are fine with it to. Ph is about 7.5 too which is usually high for TB but they’ve seemed to have adapted and breeding .

Sir, I want to ask: 1. For a 20x20x25 tank, do you need an aerator? There's already a hanging filter... 2. In the morning and afternoon I turn off the lights because there is sunlight, do I need to provide an aerator? 3. I will turn on the lights at night after I get home from the office around 9pm (because I'm in the bedroom, the AC is on 16°C 😅 so I need a light so the water isn't too cold🙈.. 4. Fill with low CO2 plants, bright fluorescent fish, guppies, mollies, platties, and ornamental shrimp.. 5. The tank is new and will be filled with tap water (in Indonesia, you can't drink tap water because it contains iron and chlorine). 6. what should I do and what do I have for my tank?
@MarksShrimpTanks
@MarksShrimpTanks 2 ай бұрын
Sir, I'm happy to help with your tank setup. Let's go through each of your questions one by one: Aerator for a 20x20x25 Tank with a Hanging Filter: Generally, if your hanging filter provides enough surface agitation, an aerator might not be necessary. The filter will likely supply adequate oxygen exchange. However, if you notice your fish gasping at the surface, adding an aerator would be beneficial. Turning Off Lights During Daytime: If there is sufficient natural sunlight entering the room, you don't need an additional aerator. Natural light should help maintain the oxygen levels. Ensure the tank doesn’t get too much direct sunlight to avoid excessive algae growth and temperature fluctuations. Turning on Lights at Night with AC On: It’s good to provide light at night since your AC is set to 16°C. You might want to consider a heater instead of relying solely on the light to keep the water warm. Lights can raise the temperature a bit, but a heater will maintain a consistent temperature, which is crucial for the well-being of your fish and shrimp. Tank Inhabitants and Plants: Low CO2 plants, bright fluorescent fish like guppies, mollies, platies, and ornamental shrimp will thrive together. Ensure you have enough plants and hiding spots for shrimp. They help keep the water clean and provide a more natural environment. Using Tap Water: Since your tap water contains iron and chlorine, use a water conditioner specifically designed for aquariums to neutralize chlorine and other harmful substances. You might also want to let the water sit for 24 hours before adding it to the tank, or use a dechlorinator product for immediate use. What You Should Do and Have: Equipment: Heater, thermometer, water conditioner, test kit (to monitor water parameters), and an aquarium light. Maintenance: Regular water changes (10-20% weekly), check water parameters frequently (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH), and clean the filter as needed. Cycling: Ensure the tank is properly cycled before adding fish and shrimp to avoid ammonia and nitrite spikes. Feeding: Feed your fish and shrimp a balanced diet suitable for each species, and avoid overfeeding. I hope this helps! Enjoy your new tank setup, and feel free to ask if you have any more questions.
