I like how every technique has it's own battle cry
@indi-go18687 жыл бұрын
It's not a "battle cry". We say "Ayy!" (Or any other variation of that) whenever we punch or kick, because it supposedly puts more energy into your move and releases air out of your lungs so if someone were to hit you (let's say in the stomach area) not as much air would be forced out of you by your opponent.

This kick is known as "yop chagi". In "gibon kyorugi" (free sparring), this kick is effective often as a defensive kick to push the attacker back if the kick is just at the belt--that's the strongest point of the kick. However, there is a weak point with this kick---there is a bit of a delay when you raise your leg before you do that side kick, which can telegraph your intent just a little bit to the opponent, and the kick could be blocked by the opponent. That is why the best way to do that kick especially when free sparring is you do the kick but make sure the prep is as quick as possible--don't raise your kicking feet for say, 1 second or more and then do the side kick. Also, don't look at your kicking leg when you do the side kick as much as possible...look at the opponent's face...this will reduce "telegraphing." Hope it helps.

+john coffin I take Traditional Style Tae Kwon Do, and I can answer your question. When you lift your foot up, your weight should not be heavier on one side. To do this, it is best to not tilt your head, and keep your guard up; this keeps the left side of your body at an equal amount of weight as your right side. Also, stay sideways; don't let your chest face the opposite direction of where you kick will go. One last advice is to do basic stretches, and I'm pretty sure Howcast has provided you a video on that. Hopefully what I just told you was helpful :D

When I was taught the sidekick, they broke it up into 6 steps... step out, step behind, fold, lock, refold and down. It's useful for beginners because you can talk about each position (pivot foot, for example... locking the leg, etc).

Personally I’ve used the skipping sidekick in a fight before to good effect, it landed on the dude’s liver and he was pretty much out after that. I’m an amateur so the skipping part was sloppy but mislead him to believe it was the actual kick, which made him mess his timing up, leaving him open for my kick.

I was not sure about the differance between side and front kick. You just save my 6 years old for her exam next week!!
@darkendawna92349 жыл бұрын
Basically the same except the front kick goes in a straight line when kicking. Side kick is mostly used on the torso of the body and when doing it you higher your knees and basically just kick but sideways.

Skipping or hopping side kick! Nice. I always knew this as the Slide up side kick. Hence to never break structure. Being airborn or taking a foot off the ground negates kinetic energy immensely. Why the slide up side kick was not ever mentioned or rated is beyond me. Where by far. The most impact full and powerful kick possibly done by a human.

I have a method to increase balance. Left-Front, Right-back = later Left-Front, Right-Front = Right-Front to Left-of Left-Front = push Right-Front to Down-Front with golf-swing(BY rotating on ball of Left-Front using the push-effect swing of Right-Front) Left-Front, Right-Back = same as above BUT step-one is Right-Knee into lower-torso = step-two is knife-edge of foot with heel into opponent's other half (draw center line, right-foot to his right-half to prevent your-injury) This is how i practice BALANCE

As Charles Smith wrote, his upper body posture is incorrect. Taught many years ago by Sang Lee we watched very closely to detail. Unless a spin kick, you should always look at opponent. I give kudos that this instructor at least turns his hip into it. Which is correct form but sometimes skipped in sparring. But his foot position is incorrect. Sang Lee taught us to raise the big toe, lower the other toes, heal should be slightly higher than the rest of the foot, and you are striking with the heal and outer edge of the foot. That is Yop Chagi… when you strike with the flat of the foot and the ball of the feet extended further out, that is a different kick. A kind of hook kick, or usually a spin kick.

I notice that sometimes his eyes drift away from his opponent during some of those kicks. Should that be avoided? I've trained with different martial groups, but a common rule seems to be that one should always keep an eye on your opponent as much as possible.

@Spladoinkal4 жыл бұрын
Roundhouse kick is a kick with the front of the leg such as the lower shin. You bring the kick up from the side in kind of a circular motion and kick with the front of the leg. The side kick is straight out and you hit with your heel.
