Your last comment struck me, as when I looked up the video (right after my class tonight) and batting the spelling, I thought I heard my KSN say Ee Ro. I was wondering why he would be teaching the 2nd form first. I almost blew past this video thinking that I was ahead of myself. Thanks for mentioning the order in which these forms are taught. I really appreciate your series. I know their are differences between SBD and TSD, but I still find the videos extremely helpful!

LOL! Yeah, it's easy to run across several different spellings of Korean words. Did you happen to ask why the SBD teaches the second Chil Sung first? I am curious, as to what students are told. You are going to find minor differences even amongst the instructors in the SBD if you watch carefully, just human nature. I am happy to know they are helpful, thanks for watching!

Great walk-thru/how to. Ko mop sum ni da & TANG SOO! I was a TSD student in the ‘70-‘80’s before the Chil-Sung & Yuk Ryo forms were formally introduced to the curriculum. IMHO, it was a watershed moment that created so many orphaned schools and students along with disparate associations and federation. It was interesting and somewhat excited to learn the Chul-Sung forms as a 2d & 3rd Dan but it was sad to no longer see some schools and students from other schools that left the GM Hwang Kee’s MDK. That said, here’s the Um and Yang of it. This business political decision perhaps gave GM Hwang Kee the inner peace of truly making MDK a unique style other than a critically viewed Korean refined kicking version of Japanese Shotokan. Perhaps he felt the urge as many Korean people to erase the Japanese occupation impressions and reconnect to a heritage that was nearly if not extinguished. This moved further orphaned MDK students like in the ‘60’s when Korean government directed the consolidation towards TKD and even later with unification to eliminate the Kwans within TKD. The iconic MDK colored trim adopted by GM Hwang Kee certainly drew great popularity amongst the Korean people and his desire to anchor his style towards the roots of the Hwa Rang soldiers of the Korean Silla dynasty rather than Chinese Tang dynasty and Okinawa’s Gichin Funakoski. This again, um and yang movement has created many arts of MDK- TSD, SBD, and TKD… it would be interesting to know if there are any Hwa Soo Do students today.

Thank you very much! SBD practitioners tend to not like my Chil Sung videos because I do the hyung a little differently than they do currently. An interesting perspective and opinion on Tang Soo Do's dysfunctional history. I doubt there are any active Hwa Soo Do left, considering the rough start it had out of the gate. If there were even that many that wanted to stick with it considering that the name and style only existed for a couple of years, then KJN Hwang Kee did a hard reset knowing the Hwa Soo Do wasn't going to make it during that time period, but as you know, TSDMDK took off and grew quickly. Thanks again for watching, Tang Soo!👊

@@Rockholdkarate I truly respect and appreciate your contribution to the art and style. I'm sure you chose to do it for many reasons and a deep love of it was on the top of the list... though I left the TSD path in pursuit of the Olympic dreams in Barcelona and Seoul, I was lucky enough to find a tkd-MDK instructor and found lots of commonality between the two... ultimately, the sport aspect and old age drove me to physical retirement, however I still continue to spectate from the spiritual and internal power aspect as well as the historical. I don't think many students understand the wicked driving force of Japanese occupation and WWII driving GM Hwang Kee to leave his homeland to Manchuria. By happenstance, he found Mr. Yang to learn more of the softer characteristics to balance the hard ones forced by Japanese rule upon his return. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to truly express his art due to dictatorship and communism with the Korean conflict/civil war. In some aspects, I can only speculate that the export of TSD to the USA and his son, now leader of the World MDK, H.C. Hwang, whom I was a brief student and was a test examiner on many of my trials, was the primary reason why it lives today... along with GM Song Ki Kim and the likes of Mstr Donny Meadows… as we say, 'Merica! We, as a Americans don't understand the freedom and protection our Constitution provides that simply doesn't anywhere else... I've certainly digressed into a tangent, I'm sure you'd rather not dive into so thank you for your time and patience... Thank you again for what you do... SEMPER FIDELIS & TANG SOO!!!
