If you wanna go even larger distances, throw your cap, ground pound, then roll into it. It launches you very high and very far. Immediately after this, throw your cap while in the air and dive onto it. After, press B to do a little spin in the air with rainbows around you, then just dive afterwards. That's the farthest you can go in the game so far to my knowledge. How does no one know this?!

What I NEVER see anyone doing is pressing B! When you catch Cappy, press B to do a little air-stall. The same can happen on the ground, you can press B and do a very high jump! I do it all the time in my videos and in my own time. I like to go Jump, Throw And Hold, Dive, Jump Off Cappy, B when you catch it, Throw and Hold, and Dive.
@m.m.28977 жыл бұрын
NotToxicLord It gives you distance, though. If you aren’t gaining enough distance to get to one side to another and you just need a little more, air stalls work perfectly. It’s a lifesaver. You won’t really need the momentum anyway because you’re gonna dive right afterwards.

I made sure to spend extra long in the first world practising movement, and I think it paid off. Everything just feels so fluid when you get momentum going. Edit: I got up that girder block slightly differently. You run away from it for a bit so you don't end up crashing into the wall, turn and jump to do a side flip (same height as ground pound jump) throw cappy to the wall and dive, then wall jump and dive again.
@silent_mini_beast80343 жыл бұрын
9:34 you could have just get ON the railing and then long jump from there. It can be a little tricky since you don't have much space on the railing but you actually can do that
@ShortTyler216 жыл бұрын
Great tips for beginners but when you get these jumps down, there are more things you can do. When you throw cappy, dive, then jump off him, press B at max height to do a rainbow spin, or if you want to get more advanced you can do what's called a homing cap throw. Thats where you do any jump you want off the ground, getting to the lowest point you can in your jump, throwing cappy with Y or X, then shake your remote immediately so cappy comes back. Right as he comes back, press B to do a rainbow spin, then throw cappy and jump off him. From there it's simple if you master the techniques in this video, but before you do the homing cap throw I recomend mastering the rainbow spin. Also if trying to go for max distance, do a roll cancel vector, which is hard to explain, but basically, you have to groundpound, holding ZL press X to roll, and while moving your analog stick to the left or right (depending on the jump), press Y and B which will cancel the roll and keep your momentum. All button presses for this vector has to be done in only one second because of not you will either long jump or keep rolling. What is recommended is right when you ground pound, slide your thumb from X down to Y and down to B in a matter of milliseconds. I don't recomend vectoring until you master cappy roll jumps, which is pressing and holding Y, ground pound then roll using X while still holding down Y at about a 90 degree angle from your jump goal and you will get some good distance. The reason I said to do the jump at an angle is because Mario moves the fastest when at a angle for some reason. Remember to get the timing right for most, if not, every jump to do it right and get the most distance. Master all of these and you will be very good at Super Mario Odyssey. Hope this was helpful to anyone. P.s. the jump at 9:00 is easy if you get on the rail, ground pound, then press Y to enter a roll and you will get over very easily, or just long jump off the rail and wont have to do any other jumps.

There will be a picture to jump through leading you to the iron cage in the steam Gardens. From their fall down to the next platform and there you will see a tall structure toward your ship that you can somehow get to with long jumping and stuff. I took a screenshot of me standing on the structure. Sadly Nintendo didn't put any rewards or coins on it because I don't think they knew I was able to get on to it. Good luck!

I spent half an hour to do the high wall jump but couldn't quite get it with Alex's tutorial. I met a big problem that is after I ground pound jump to Cappy I couldn't reach Cappy because I stood to far from the wall. So actually we have to quickly move forward a liiitle bit between press+holding y and ground pound jump back. So the full correct combo is this: Jump(B) -> ground pound(ZL or ZR) -> jump(B) -> throw Cappy and hold(press + hold Y or X) -> move forward -> ground pound(ZL/ZR) -> jump and reach Cappy (B) -> wall kick (B) -> throw Cappy (Y or X) -> dive (ZR + X/Y). Man that is brutal, especially for a noob like me 🤯🤯. The timing is very specific

I didn't know about the long wall jump, I imagine that works because in addition to killing your momentum Cappy also kills your falling speed stopping you in mid air momentarily and acting as a buffer between Mario and the wall. I wonder if people will be able to warp to later kingdoms through the painting secret areas by using some of these. I wonder if the game will softlock if you manage to reach a kingdom before you have the necessary moons

He didn't explain the hat jump properly. You need to press B, Press X to throw Cappy, Press ZR to ground pound and then IMMEDIATELY after hold Y. That's how you do the cappy jump.
@Xgil2Play7 жыл бұрын
I tend to do an actual ground pound when I'm trying to dive, am I not fast enough, or is it not consistent if I press ZR and Y at the same time?
@KervLanger7 жыл бұрын
Lumify | Gil Your mistake is trying to press ZL and Y at the same time. You have to press ZL THEN Press and hold Y for the dive
@Scuuurbs7 жыл бұрын
You can also just press and hold X after ZL/ZR (with Cappy thrown out) and he'll dive.

the trick is when you press ZL(R) and mario does a flip, you then press Y

Long jump, throw cappy, jump on him, dive, throw cappy again, and dive again. Love doing that, feels so satisfying and you can go so far

7:55 You actually can do something to get addicional momentum, it's called "cappy roll jump". Search it :P

You can also stick to the wall by spamming the Cappy throw. I discovered that trying to (unsuccessfully) do one-sided wall jumps, lol. They almost work, but it can't get back into the wall slide in time. Nintendo knew what they were doing it seems, lol.

thanks, I knew I was crap at the hat jump as it's a completely new move I'm not used to yet in a SM game, I knew I had to just practice but seeing all this other stuff has given me motorvation to just practice it to git gud. Still on my first play-through but trying really hard to exhaust as many moons as I can on each level.

I think the developers designed the game with these technical jump shortcuts in mind. It makes those skills worth learning and practicing and rewards the skilled mario jumper.

At 9:28 in the area with the swimming pool, you can just long jump to the other area easily if you get on top of the rail on the left and run along it.
@kakai21646 жыл бұрын
I have another way to get up there. Go on the edge near the platform on the rail, ground pound jump, dive into a cappy jump, wall jump, turn around, throw cappy, and dive.

Ground pound into a roll. Gives you an instant boost. Also adding button prompt overlays may help convey things a bit better as well.

Alex, I would love to see you do a video on some of the rather hard challenges like the 100 jump rope, and 100 volleyball. I’m struggling with those, and I’m sure I’m not the only one
@elchupacabra14067 жыл бұрын
If you also do a spin dash (ground pound then Y when you hit the ground while holding ZL) into it will even further increase the momentum of your long jump allowing you to pull off even farther jumps. I honestly cannot wait until the Speedrunning community of this game gets established!

You can also make it to that island by: Ground Pound Roll (B, ZL, (when landing, still holding ZL) Press X to roll; Using the pole on the other side of the cafe platform (with enough momentum, it works)

That jump you're trying to do to jump to the start of new donk city you'll want to do a cappy roll jump. It's a bit hard with the button presses but here's how you do it. Throw cappy with X (holding the entire time), jump with A, ground pound, and upon landing slide your thumb from X/A to X/Y. if done correctly you will throw cappy, ground pound roll, and then bounce off of happy giving you a huge boost of momentum and height.
