One tip I learned is to carry a mesh or netted sack bag. I can use it for my bedding but also to throw the dishes in the netting and hang to let them all dry without bugs getting to them. This is also great if you’re limited on space where they can’t be laid out
@HeyJonMoore3 ай бұрын
Love it dude! Yeah, especially if you don't have a place to lay everything out. Hanging is much more convenient. Thanks for the input 🤙

I usually use collapsable wash tubs/drying rack but I like the idea of spray bottles that some have mentioned. I may try that method some time. I always use automotive-type paper towels (blue in color) to wipe out the large stuff. They're a bit more robust than the regular type of paper towel. Great topic!
@HeyJonMoore3 ай бұрын
The collabasble bins are a good idea, especially if you don't have a larger/deeper dish to wash in. And dude, that's absolutely something I should have mentioned: the quality paper towels are worth the spend. Thanks for the support and bringing up that up!

To a minimalist like me these tips are gold. You can eat well without a whole kitchen setup including a zillion messy pots and utensils. At home the dishwasher changes the game, on the road doing away with dish washing is the ideal -- bravo.

Absolutely! I always implement the minimal dish strategy, house or no house. And thank you!

I enjoy your laid-back-style of video. I also have an OVRLND truck camper I picked up in Flagstaff back in 2022. I retired in 2020 in Florida and spent three years traveling the USA in a small travel trailer with the last year in the truck camper. I currently live in North Central Florida in a rental house, but I am planning to travel to Maine next September and a trip around USA in 2029.

Having dry camped while full time RVing your tips are sage advice. The paper towel or napkin I use while eating becomes my food removal towel before I wash the dishes. No need for extra garbage. That rinse water makes for a good soap side cat/spit bath, backed up by another container of clean water to wipe off the soap. Not many people know what a cat/spit bath is, but you'll be amazed at how clean you can get with one vs a shower. A wash cloth and some soapy water, then wiped down with clean water easily substitutes for a shower, especially if you keep your hair short.

+1 on using your napkin/paper towel to clean dishes. Using paper towels is not the most eco-friendly, but neither is spreading food scraps all over the forest. I prefer to use the paper towel to remove as much food as possible, so it doesn't get into my dish water.

Haha I haven't heard it called that before. Hilarious! I guess I've taken my share of cat spit baths then. Thanks for your comment Mark

Using the fewest number of dishes/utensils is by far the best tip. I do that at home as well because I HATE doing dishes - I don't have an automatic dishwasher, and I cook a lot. One more thing I might do if I were feeling particularly lazy and out for only one night. I'd wipe out those dishes like you did and just take them home to wash out better - except the cast iron, of course.
@HeyJonMoore3 ай бұрын
Haha For sure! If I wasn't full timing or out for multiple I'd definitely bag them up to do at home. I appreciate the comment :)

I use a squirt bottle that comes with a pump, saves tons of water, same soap as you but I use a Swedish dish cloth instead of paper towels, one for cleaning and one for drying, they’re fantastic at home or camping they wash well, keep dishes clean and last forever for sanitation water mixed with vinegar. Great video thanks.

That sounds awesome! And you're the second person who has mentioned the water/vinegar combo. I guess I need to put that on my radar. Thanks!

I boil water in a pot on the stove until it's warm but not too hot. Then, I put a bit of soap in it and use it to clean any grease on other dishes. Hot water makes cleaning a whole hell of a lot easier.

I like to lick the hell out of everything, have the dog help when appropriate, then go down to the crick with a towel to wipe them off 😊 Back to the camp table for a light soap wash well away from the creek. That system really falls to shit when we arent camping by a creem 😂 Great video.

Yisss great info! Doing stuff while it's warm is a great point. We go through paper towels like gangbusters. Brillo pads are your friends, or the sponge/brillo combo. Warm water is definitely better than cold water for getting rid of grease, but can be tougher to acquire. Warming or boiling water in cast iron will degrade the seasoning, ya?
@HeyJonMoore3 ай бұрын
It might mess with the seasoning if you boil for a long time but I definitely warm up water in it if I have some really stuck on food. Appreciate the comment
