@StarlaMoore

Think less about the item itself and more about the style of that item and who the item is for. A shop who sells chihuahua themed mugs, blankets, shirts, handbags, and bracelets shouldn't try to be "known" for those items. They should aim to be known for "chihuahuas". They are a chihuahua shop. Not a mug shop or a blanket shop. So I would recommend looking at your items to see if there is a cohesive style that makes those items fit together. Think about who they are for. A shop probably shouldn't sell baby blankets and vintage cigar boxes because that would just be too strange. But a shop that sells gothic art prints and handbags could totally place their items in the same shop because "gothic" is the glue of their brand. So think about what you want to be known for. If you can make the items fit - awesome! If they are too "different" in theme, you may want to keep them separate.

This is a great video and I’ve seen your others like it but I find myself asking what makes a low hanging or high hanging fruit? I paused to look at the numbers beside the ones you selected but couldn’t find a theme. Is there certain numbers we are looking for with a term to consider it a good potential to rank for?
@StarlaMoore
@StarlaMoore Жыл бұрын
The honest answer is that it entirely depends on your shop. If you are new, you won't have a customer and market experience score, which means you'll have a harder time ranking in search. Etsy wants to rank shops that they can trust at the top, and factors like your number of sales, positive reviews, etc., play into your overall shop quality. For shops that are more established, high competition isn't really a big deal because it's easier to rank above them. Etsy "trusts you more". I wouldn't say there's a specific black-and-white competition number to follow. If the competition is in the red, new shops or shops with fewer sales should be a little warier, as these will be "high-hanging fruits". I hope this helps! 🙂

@StarlaMoore

Nope! Adding your titles to your descriptions is super old-school and quite outdated. Etsy DOES now look at our descriptions for keywords as of May, but the weight they hold is SOOOO minimal. @StarlaMoore

Keywords at the beginning of your title are not weighed more. Etsy tells us to lead with our most important keywords but this is not for the algorithm. It's for shoppers who are reading the listing title on a search page. 🙂

Not a POD seller, but thought I would find some clues for selling patterns, as that niche is pretty saturated as well. I think I get most of my pattern sales from the links I put in my readymade items - for those that say "well! I can make that!" or think they have a maker that will make one for them. (I always message them with a thank you, the phrase: if any questions or problems, contact me, and a "good luck!"(in a sincere way, of course) - no one has contacted me yet...knock on wood!) I do sell the patterns in my supply/vintage shop, rather than in my handmade shop, to avoid the confusion that they will get the actual item for $5, rather than a PDF. Thinking I might raise my pattern prices, but it's not like I sell a pattern every day (my niche is only 2.3% of the US population).

Start broad and add complimenting keywords more closely related to the specific person, because either way, you'll rank for both the broad and the specific terms. If you used the term "Tote bag for Teacher" you'd exact match for just "tote bag" too. 🙂

Since POD is a business model that allows creators to create based on what people want, do you have any tips or tricks to find ideas on what to create? I would love any crafty ways to find search terms prior to creating a product and any tips and tricks you have up your sleeve to account for seasonal search terms. I know that erank is jammed packed with all kinds of useful tools that make this possible, I am just not sure if I am maximizing the tools that are available. Thanks!

Personally I'd look at the new POD trends tool mentioned at the end of the video, then pay close attention to the graph beside each trending term. This can help you to forecast things that become popular with the seasons, but you can also identify new trends that are starting to climb. It's kind of like keeping an eye on the stock market. I can totally create a more in-depth POD trend video though!!! 💜

@@StarlaMoore I love the new POD trends tool! Thank you all at erank and I truly relate to the stock market analogy since we are making product decisions based on historical data and trends along with current events. One of the focuses I have taken over the past few weeks is identifying my search terms first and then building products around those terms. I have noticed a significant increase in my "spotted on etsy" listings and the handy dandy Google Analytic information imported to erank is allowing me to see the results in real time and adapt if needed. (example: a coffee mug with a tote bag tag - yep, I did that!) A trend video would be great and I believe it will help all Etsy sellers. As a new POD seller, I look at some of the crazy listing decisions I have made, I am so grateful that I have not "invested" in supplies for these listings as I would have really thrown away a ton of money. I would love any insight on what market research should be done prior to creating a product. For example, what indicators prompted you to design a strawberry tote bag? Thank you so much for being an awesome teacher and thank you so much for the Free Etsy SEO Workshop! It provides so much insight to the wizard behind the curtain - aka Etsy!

Do you have to put alt text on all 10 of your mockups or just your primary one?
@StarlaMoore
@StarlaMoore Жыл бұрын
ALT text is meant to explain to those who are visually impaired what is in each of your images. So describing the exact mock-up is important for all images. For example, one image might say "Female African American woman wearing white tee shirt with blue lettering that says "No Bad Days", then another might say, "White tee shirt with blue lettering that says "No Bad Days" laying flat over a white wood backdrop". Imagine that you are explaining every single photo to a blind person. You're not just describing the item to them. You're explaining your photos and everything in them. 🙂

Is it okay to bracket titles like this 'Cow Plush Keychain | What's Wrong With Secretary Kim | Kdrama | Korean | Kawaii | Euphoria Forest' and also how would I do tags for this title to match well? I'm still figuring out seo for my niche
@StarlaMoore
@StarlaMoore Жыл бұрын
So first question - Yes! You can separate out keywords however you'd like. Though in the example you've given, I would personally try to add "Kdrama | Korean | Kawaii" into a more structured keyword phrase, as it'll be really hard to rank for any of these terms on their own... and I bet you could find a great longtail keyword to exact match for associated with each of those terms. Second question - For tags, just copy and past the same keywords from your title into your tags in combinations that make the most sense. For example, I sold "skeleton key necklaces" in my old shop. And this keyword was too big for one tag. So I always split it into "skeleton key" and "necklace", rather than "skeleton" and "key necklace" - because I was not selling a "skeleton", so the term "skeleton key" made more sense. 😀
@haileye7297
@haileye7297 Жыл бұрын
@@StarlaMoore omg thank you for explaining the tags! I never knew how to split them up to make the most sense but that was an amazing example! Kpop is hard to seo for because most shoppers just put in the group or member name. So a lot of us sellers just use our tags for the names but I'm trying to see if traditional seo methods would increase sales
@StarlaMoore
@StarlaMoore Жыл бұрын
Got it. Definitely good to avoid using the actual group or members names. I just ran a quick keyword search for "kpop" on it's own and scrolled to the suggested keywords. It looks like the term "kpop merch" might be a sweet spot that isn't overly saturated.

how would you compare eRank with Sale Samurai?
@StarlaMoore
@StarlaMoore Жыл бұрын
I cannot compare the two unfortunately, as I am an eRank manager and have no personal experience with Sale Samurai. What I can say is that eRank is the largest and most popular Etsy SEO tool in the world, which means that due to a larger client base, we very likely have more data than smaller companies (as data is insanely expensive). Every time our company grows, we are able to expand our data, whereas smaller SEO companies likely aren't pulling the funds to support the same quantity or quality of data. We are also the only SEO company that offers a free subscription, to my knowledge. 🙂

@StarlaMoore

It entirely depends on the product and how you're working your search. There is a definitely possibility of being "too niche", but in most cases, a different phrasing of the item can also often give a different variety of keywords. So I'd recommend ensuing that you are using all possible terminology that your item could be identified by before coming to the conclusion that the item isn't in-demand.

If they claim to be "gurus", they likely aren't very good ones. Because even Etsy tells sellers not to do this. The logic behind this tip would be to add as many keywords as possible to your listings - which is great. Lots of keyword variety is good. But it has absolutely nothing to do with character count, nor is this something that Etsy measures. Etsy tells us to stick to short descriptive titles. Any time you hear weird hokey-pokey Etsy SEO advice, ask the "guru" to provide an official source. If they can't, it's usually a myth.

This works well for Strawberry Tote Bags but I'm struggling with finding keywords for POD shirts. Every single shirt search is in the millions for competition... 😅

I'd need a more detailed example of the specific design you're selling in order to offer advice here, but generally it's a good idea to thing less about the design itself (if you're not seeing great keyword searches) and focus more heavily on the type of person who may be buying it or a gift recipient. For example, if "tie dye shirts" didn't have great search volumes or the competition was too high to realistically rank for, I might recommend pivoting to "boho shirts" or "hippie shirts" or even "music festival clothing" in order to hit easier targets. 🙂

So no need to add commas in title?

You can if you'd prefer to write your keywords in more of a string-style, rather than a keyword rich sentence. In terms of the algorithm, it doesn't matter though. Shoppers can get confised by a big jumble of words that make no sense though, so I'd try to use punctuation if the title looks messy, or write your title into a short sentence like I did in my example. Either way, the algorithm doesn't care. I just wouldn't recommend keyword stuffing in a way that may confuse the shopper who is looking at your listing. 😀
