How to do everything WRONG. Stranded in a snowstorm on the mountain

I don't want to bash on or talk negatively about this particular driver, but this is a perfect case of how to do everything wrong. A lot happened before I even turn the camera on, but between not following directions, walking blindly into traffic, walking behind my wrecker as I'm backing up, calling multiple tow companies, purposely ignoring chain laws, and complaining about the price that you had already agreed to.. I had no patience on this job. It was basically a textbook example of how to put yourself in a bad situation, and make everything more difficult.
Be sure to check out our Patreon project where we use whatever it brings in in a month as our budget to help someone the following month! I was never a fan of the Patreon idea until I realized that I can use it to help others instead of myself, so I created the Patreon Project where we can all combine our efforts to make a real difference in people's lives and make the world a better place! For as little as a dollar a month you can join the group of awesome people already on board and be vote to help steer the ship along the way!

Calling multiple companies at the same time to see who shows up first will get you on the DO NOT SERVICE list around here.

If you're willing to pay for that privilege (paying everyone for their time because you're in a hurry and need out now), then I see nothing wrong with it. If you're going to stiff the guy? Then I hope all the tow truck companies share your name and number and the DO NOT SERVICE list.

Not even sure that can be called bashing the driver. You are giving a real time example of what it takes to do your job. That driver is a real world example of the obstacles you have to overcome to do it. Just another example that people should not always act on everything we think is right and sometimes listen to the pro’s we have hired to do something.

What I liked most about this video is how well it illustrates Casey’s lighting concept. Starting from the rotating orange to how well it lights up the work area. And the contrast between the areas around the tow truck and the customer truck and the passing vehicles shows how well this is thought out.
@CaseyLaDelle
@CaseyLaDelle 10 ай бұрын
Also notice that there was never lens flair on the camera from the work lights on my truck. All of them are pointed down so that their direct light beam goes to the ground, and the work area is lit with indirect lighting that doesn't blind oncoming traffic with wet windshields. I spent a lot of time at night walking around that truck and adjusting lights

How much about driving truck can be taught in 4 weeks especially by companies who have you with a trainer for 4 weeks cut you loose on your own and after 6 months of solo driving if you want a raise you can become a trainer I was lucky to grow up in trucks learning to move them around our yard and in the fields as soon as I could reach the pedals (never on the backroads around the farm) I still continue to learn if a situation arises I've never seen I'm not afraid to ask around and learn something instead of screwing up and trying to explain to the insurance man and owner of what I'm hauling how shit got tore up and I'm about to semi-retire as a professional tourist and just stick to the farm trucks and my yearly derbycar loads from the desert and Texas to the land of salt cancered cars

That's the sort of customer you really don't need. Reminds me of a video that went viral in the UK when a recovery guy turned up to change a tire. Not only did the customer try to cancel the entire job, but the tow company driver refused to fit the tire but still left it with them for someone else to fix. The customer ended up climbing up in the recovery guy's truck, and then walked in the busy traffic lanes o to try to stop him leaving. It just escalated down from good intent to bad intent. I've always thought that being rescued is a privilege, not a right.

gbsbill, Try driving I-40 across northern AZ in the winter! Most of it is 5,000 ft or higher and some areas get over 100 inches of snow a year. One semi gets stuck in the right lane and the next guy pulls out to pass and gets stuck right next to the first guy! During snow storms the hiway dept. puts down 300 lbs. of salt per lane per mile per application, and they run nonstop. Tell me again about salt-free Arizona cars!

To show up and have him out in 15 min and not damage or affect his situation in any way ticks the Speed and Quality mark so with that comes Cost. With Casey's knowledge, expertise and equipment you can expect top notch service, but it comes at a cost (as it should). Pick your worth. Been in a similar situation, different industry - If someone else shows up and shows me the same number in caller ID, driver doesn't get keys from me until the other guy collects for showing up. In your world, I can see that being a problem if you "stuck" a driver in a truck with the window stuck down and no heat though...

But Casey, one of the things I love about your channel is you don't pretend not to get angry, same with Trail Mater. And man do I not envy you standing on a mountain in the dark with idiots that refuse to slow down, even though it is super obvious there is stuff going on. Seriously two trucks with hazard lights.

You should watch the videos where they destruction test shackles with both a tight and loose pin. Both broke above their failure rating which is 6x the working load. The pins failed in both scenarios. They also make shackles that are quick release with a pin that slides.

Casey. It might be too late for this info. Sorry I didn't think of it till now. Auto trans trucks don't always start in 1 or second gear. So you may want to check for that in the delicate tows. You did a good job remaining g calm as you did.

I get why you were explaining why you were talking to the guy in a stern voice, the part I don't understand are the people who dont understand that that is how you have to talk to some people to get their attention and get them to do what is needed at the time. It has never bothered me if someone is barking orders during tense situation because I understand the gravity of the situation. things can go south very quickly and I dont suffer fools who can get me or someone else hurt. I give respect until someone shows they dont respond to it. Years ago I worked at a ski resort and on the way home I pulled a woman out of the snow bank who had been going too fast. before I could get my straps put away she sped off. this was long before yankum, ( I sure would have loved to have them). a mile down the mountain I found her in the snowbank again. she was in a minivan with front while drive and cables on the tires, but she was just driving too fast. I had told her to slow down but she didn't listen.. so I just waved as I drove past her. she could wait and pay a tow guy.

Casey I’m a crane operator of 35 years and before that a rigger so I know some stuff and a bow shackle with threads is designed to be tight and that’s from the Crosby crane and riggers handbook there is a shackle with a threaded pin that has a retention nut that has a hairpin safety the nut can be loose as long as hairpin safety fits
