Starting to skate again after 10 years and crossovers have been the hardest thing to re-learn. I've been just so scared of them that I couldn't even make myself try. I've been watching this video over and over all week and today I went to the rink and told myself I would not leave until I could do crossovers and it was really hard, but I'm super proud to say that an hour and a half of going around in circles on the same hockey circle later, I can now do (pretty decent) crossovers in both directions. I feel so much more confident in myself as a skater and my ability to overcome a mental block. Being able to actually feel myself getting better and better every time I went around is the exact exhilarating feeling that made me love skating in the first place.

Try to get the knee pads and butt pads, it will make u less scared of falling! I just learned them today and did much better compared to the start and the end! I’m learning half swizzles crossovers too ( backwards ) but I just got to a new level and I’m a bit behind! But I feel much better now and I feel like I can catch up!

Crossovers are so simple, but they look and feel very cool when you do it. As a beginner who just learnt that and bunny hops, it's almost addicting.

I used to be a good figure skater and one of the fastest in my arena. I took a 10 years break off the ice and now i feel as though im a super big beginner. These crossover used to be easy for me and now are hard 😂 hope this motivates some people that anything is possible!

Really helpful, thank you! I’m still working on the first step (bringing two feet together before crossing) but can see now how I can progress that. Most videos just show the full thing without a helpful ‘way in’ like this.

Glad it was helpful! For more details on the crossover, don't forget to check my older video too :)

@@IceCoachOnline Happy to report I can now do ‘proper’ crossovers fully on one side, working on the other side. The other video was super helpful too, but I needed this one to get over my fear and get started 😊

I've been struggling with crossovers for weeks. I'm at the PreAlpha level but they want us to start working on them. Anyway, after several videos and asking instructors, I finally figured out why I couldn't them do them. I'm not entirely comfortable with my outside edges or confident since I fell and injured myself while doing a one foot glide. Other than that, i get everything else. The pump, doing them standing still, etc. Thank you for making detailed, but quick videos.!

Sure could have used your wonderful guidance ... um....55 years ago! I was a small child who wanted to learn ice skating. Took lessons once a week. Never got further than 3rd ribbon, which was crossover from right leg to left, balancing on left leg. In the other direction, I couldn't do it, couldn't balance to save my life, and was afraid of falling, so I was too stiff. Never got that 4th ribbon. Took lessons 2 different times as a kid and that was where my skating 'career' ended. It's like the red carpet/Hollywood actress pose today where they stand with one leg over and in front of the other. I can't do it unless I'm holding on to something or someone! Brings the skating frustration right back!

Thank you! Im actually having ICE skating lessons but in my group there are many people Who are not completely begginers and the teacher tends to focus on them and doenst focus on Is Who literally only has a few hours on skates. He Is grate but he doesn't brake down movements like this and we are left to Just try and error until we get It, no easier version to how to start not how to get some comfidence on ICE... its frustrating.

Im the weirdo that learned backwards crossovers before forwards. While trying the stationary cross stops, i started going backwards. Rather than stop that I decided to see how fast i could go.

Learning forward crossovers nOw in basic 4…and it’s terrifying!!! Especially at my age…middle age and just learning this 😮. I can do one foot pumps/glides on one foot (lifting right foot)….but counter is a little unstable. My crosses are not to pretty… but with practice I know will get better. You mentioned crossing the foot over and not turning it in (trip to the hospital part). Can you give advice on how to keep the ‘crossing over foot’ to not turn inward?

Any tips for how to overcome overpronation / inside edge skating? I normally walk with overpronation so trying to correct it actually feels like I’m supinating my foot and it feels really unstable. 😬

I can do crossover but i don't feel confident on outside edge. Now i went step back and trying to do circles on outside edge. Sometime i do only that for 15 minutes. The problem is to find the point, angle of leaning where you stay in ballance. I need to lean little bit more. Each day is getting little bit better.

that might sound weird but i need a tutorial for going backwards to forwards, cause when i do my backwards crossovers i just cant exit them, i only know how to do an outside mohawk but i go so fast that it gets so scary to stand on my weak side WITH the outside edge😅 so please pleeease a tutorial or any kind of tip for this would be sooo helpful
@IceCoachOnline2 жыл бұрын
Have you seen the video on the channel that is a backward to forwards two foot turn? I think this is exactly what you're looking for! Alternatively there is stepping from backwards to forwards on the circle (both facing the circle and facing away from it). However those videos are on the website!

I’m stuck in the loop jump. I get to the hook and I just don’t feel like I am in the right place to jump and if I do I’m not getting enough rotation. Also I keep going on my toe pick in my spins, especially when I start to bring my leg in when attempting a scratch spin🤦♀️

It's hard to know exactly why without seeing it for myself. However, did you watch the video "how to centre your spins"? Some of the tips from that video might help you to understand the issue.
