I’m so glad you’re actually knowledgeable on this and aren’t plugging a shitty $180 pod machine lol. We’ve been digging cold brew lately. We’re between campers but when our new one arrives, I think cold brew will be great in summer, especially for trips up to a week away where we can brew it at home and then take it with us.

@@WildTouring I use this: cremacoffeegarage.com.au/hario-cold-brew-pot-white-1l.html I was recommended to try this: cremacoffeegarage.com.au/toddy-cold-brew-system-758591011027.html However the Hario pot is smaller and easier to store I feel. Go ever so slightly coarser on the grind than an espresso shot or it can take a bloody long time to get the coffee to drip through into the Hario.

The trick with mocha pots is to pre boil the water so that the grinds are not exposed to too much heat as the water comes up to temperature. You’ll get a much smoother result. You’re welcome 😉
@WildTouring4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I definitely have to do this with my 6 cup moka! I find I don't need to with the 3 cup though, I think the volume of water is so small it heats up quick enough that the water isn't in contact with the grounds for long enough to extract bitterness or to burn.

Your delivery of a subject is so good, and I love a good coffee! How does your ground version compare to Expresso Pods?
@anthony.grisan4 жыл бұрын
Hi Wayne, Espresso pods have coffee in it that could be up to 12 months old. You could not compare it to the fresh coffee that he has on screen. Fresh coffee is worlds different. If you have a pod machine i suggest you goodle reusable coffee pods and search for a coffee that is good for you and grind it yourself.
@davetunbridge66374 жыл бұрын
We’ve got an expressotoria pod machine which I run off a 1700w inverter. Finally sourced reusable pods from a company called “ pod star”. Very well made, machined from solid s/s. we have a hand grinder as well for our fresh beans and also have a mocha pot but ours is s/s ( don’t want the al 🥸). We use a wizzy stick thingy from ikea to froth the milk, but might invest in one like Cam’s.
@WildTouring4 жыл бұрын
Gday Wayne. It's all personal preference. For me, how we do coffee like in this video (fresh beans, correct grind for the method of extraction and full fat milk), it's on par with a good barista coffee. A step above a pod. Having said that. Pods are very easy and they're consistent. A cup of coffee from a pod is likely to be better than a poorly executed stove top (stale beans, wrong grind, allowing it to boil over etc..). So pods machines still have their place.
@royager30923 жыл бұрын
A trick I leaned from James Hoffman (coffee expert) is to pre boil the water.This way the coffee in the metal does not bake while you wait for the water to boil. Bit like the home grinder that pre heats before the coffee comes out. I’ve tried it and told other and the agreement is, is it defo make a difference. Try it, let me know.
@WildTouring3 жыл бұрын
I’ve tried this at home, and my dad swears by that method. It definitely passes through the coffee quicker and ensures you get no burnt or bitter flavours. But I feel like the water passes through too quick and Isn’t in contact with the grinds for long enough to get full extraction resulting in a weaker brew. Might just be my taste. At home I normally run the tap until it’s hot, and fill up the bottom of the moka pot with that tap hot water. Reduces a bit of time to make the brew, but doesn’t spurt out too fast.

Hi Cam/Tiff, with the milk frother you put up it uses 42amps. Sorry if it's a silly question but I don't know too much about 12 volt power. Does that mean you'll use 42 amps of your battery to hear up that milk? I have a 12 volt setup in my MDC Cruiser Slide 2 X 100 AH batteries and I'd love to operate a milk frother in mine and make a coffee the same way you have I'm not a fan of instant. Cheers
@WildTouring4 жыл бұрын
Nah mate if it’s drawing 42amp that means it would draw 42ah off your batteries if it were running for an entire hour. If you were using it for 5 mins or so it would only take 3.5ah off your battery capacity.

I own gricello coffee and we sell camp packs with coffee and Bialetti Cafe tierra. www.gricello.com.au/collections/coffee/products/gricello-coffee-pack . My tip is not to grind the coffee too fine. As a moke pot cooks the coffee at 100 degree water and a machine is 93 degrees. the finer you grind the more chance you will have a burnt taste. Go level with the hopper i would stack higher as it doesnt allow the coffee to go through as well. The gritty sand is good. great work
