I love the "sticking my leg across and hoping for the best". This was totally my philosophy too. That's why I became a fan of tai otoshi and ashi guruma as well.

Yeah, Ashi Guruma is another great throw...I don't know if you saw this one, but I did a video on how I like to set up for Ashi Guruma ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/maCUfKVvlJmjac0 ) ...how do you set it up? I really like Tai Otoshi, and try to use it in randori to varying degrees of success, but I've never got it to work in competition yet...but I'm working on it.

@@TheJudoWayofLife I did see that video and I really liked it. My ashi guruma is a bit different than normal, it doesn't have to big spin. I like the over the back grip (mostly use this) and I step close to uke, attacking from their left side. I then put my shin on their left hip flexor (I'm a righty, btw) almost like a sumi gaeshi position and apply pressure with a push-pull between my grips amd my shin. I then point my toe towards their right ankle, rotate my hips and extend my leg to fit in for the ashi guruma. Hard to explain but if I find a video of it I can send it over IG. As for tai otoshi, I love it and have been trying to perfect it for years but I'm in the same realm, can't get it to work in randori. My only real success is if I use a blast ouchi to open them up and quickly follow with the tai otoshi.

I like your philosophy, as well! Especially as a tall player; I look forward to finally trying out Harai after seeing this video.

Definitely it's the first time I see taller judoka shows technique on lower uke. I like it a lot, as I'm tall as well. Please make more movies for taller players. Cheers.

Yeah, I have quite a few videos with shorter uke. I'm glad to hear you have enjoyed the video. I will for sure.

Could you make a video on how to fight as a taller judoka, in terms of gripping, Throws, footwork?
@TheJudoWayofLife2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's a great idea for a video...I'll get something recorded in the next few weeks!

How effective would you say a overhook grip over the shoulder grabbing the belt is? Im tall and have a tendency to get this grip due to my posture. Thanks
@TheJudoWayofLife Жыл бұрын
I think it can be very effective, but it depends a lot on what you do once you get the grip...if you hesitate, you could be very vulnerable to throws like Ura Nage...but if you move/control and throw as soon as you have the grip, it could be really effective.
